3DS Owners Screwed Out of Binding of Isaac

Nintendo apparently doesn’t want to risk offending its customers.

Indie Dev Edmund McMillen confirmed via Twitter earlier today that the Nintendo 3DS eShop would officially be declining to host his latest game, The Binding of Isaac. Citing “questionable religious content,” Nintendo has elected to dump the game from its eShop lineup.

Here’s McMillen’s tweet in full:

“Attention: After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3ds. :(“

He continued, quite hilariously:

“As many assumed the reasons were due to the games "questionable religious content". Thank GOD Steam exists!”

The Binding of Isaac has moved over 450,000 copies on PC, and this silly controversy will likely spur more sales than the game would have gained with a quiet eShop release. Still, it’s an odd decision on the part of Nintendo and a bad precedent to set in terms of censorship.

Riot Games Speaks Out on SOPA

Yet another developer takes a stand against the controversial bill.

League of Legends developer Riot Games does not like SOPA. In fact, the company believes that the implementation of the bill would be catastrophic, and that the bill threatens free speech in addition to gaming communities. But Riot isn’t content to merely oppose the bill – the company wants your help.

Riot CEO Brandon Beck issued a lengthy statement on the game’s official website, detailing he and the company’s primary concerns with both the PIPA and SOPA bills. He listed just a few of the possible consequences of the bill, summarized here:

Death of livestreaming

Danger to the modding community

Threatens fansites and forums

Undermines existing legislation

Beck went on to provide a link to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, one of the primary organizations standing in opposition to SOPA. He also requested that fans of LoL contact their congressional representatives and let them know what they think of the bill. Overall, this is one of the most complete responses we’ve seen against SOPA, one that extends far beyond simply saying, “We don’t like it.”

Devil May Cry HD Collection gets a Launch Date

Dante comes crashing back to consoles in a remastered collection featuring his greatest adventures.

Love Devil May Cry? Well, do we ever have good news for you. The good folks over at Capcom have just confirmed that Devil May Cry: HD Collection is heading your way in April of 2012, and is jam-packed with all of the demon-slaying goodness you’ve come to love and expect in the franchise.

The collection will include improved versions of the original Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening. The games will support trophies and achievements, and will include what Capcom is calling “a wealth” of additional content. Details are sparse, but we can only assume that means costumes and other interesting add-ons.

Devil May Cry HD Collection will be available on both PS3 and Xbox 360 – a cool moment for Xbox owners that never had a chance to get in on the series. HD collections seem to be the way of the future, with more and more studios revisiting old classics and slightly improving them for a quick buck.

Of course, if the end result is getting to play a game you love, there’s probably nothing wrong with the move. As long as the games remain reasonably priced – Devil May Cry HD Collection will launch at $39.99. Not too shabby.

Devil May Cry details emerge from TGS 2011

This new Devil May Cry title has aroused the curiosity of fans all over, what with this brand new image of a younger Dante. At the Tokyo Game Show 2011, Capcom divulges some more information, finally, about what this game really will be about.

Fine, there may be more questions after the press conference, but at least they did provide some signiifcant details on it.

Such that this new iteration in the series will be taking place in Limbo, that where modernity and medieval times come to cross, architecturally, at least. And that Dante's cross-breed qualities of being half-angel, half-devil will yield him dual powers.

Powers such as that when he taps into his angel-ness, Rebellion transforms into a scythe; his devil-ness, transforms into an axe.

And that he has the following abilities, most of which remain true to the previous installments in the franchise:

launch foes into the air

chain of attacks via aerial abilities

"devil trigger" attack

twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory

Angel Boost/ Angel Lift

Fans should definitely watch out for a good one, as even Capcom is claiming that they are keen on creating the perfect Devil May Cry game yet. A movie is supposedly in the works, too, last we heard earlier this year.

Devil May Cry comes out for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, although Capcom has still yet to determine a date for its official launch.

Devil May Cry is Hollywood-bound too

And the cross-over to Hollywood continues. Earlier, we were just talking about the Uncharted movie adaptation. This time, we've got another movie-themed news item for a video game. Up next to walk down that glitzy red carpet: Devil May Cry.

Variety repots that Capcom's slasher title is indeed Hollywood-bound, thanks to Screen Gems' purchase of its feature film rights. Manning the pen for this project is no other than Kyle Ward. Included in his portfolio is the scriptwriting stint for another videogame-movie adaptation, Kane & Lynch.

Capcom has previously teamed up with Screen Gems for the Resident Evil movie franchise. It was a big hit, as it turned, out, so it's not really surprising that Capcom would want to partner up with them again for the movie debut of another of their top-grossing titles.

Devil May Cry, as a franchise, garnered some US$ 580 million in worldwide grosses. From the first introduction of Dante in the first iteration back in 2001, the franchise is now up at title number five, with DMC V being developed by Ninja Theory. Keiji Inafune has previously divulged that they intend to give the latest iteration a more Wetern touch "to make it more attractive to American and European players."

Apart from tweaking up the theme of the game, they're also giving Dante a makeover, supposedly by presenting him in a younger version. This movie adaptation expands the DMC franchise, which not only stands as a game brand, but is now also available via anime and manga mediums.

Now that the talks of a movie is no longer a mystery, the next question we can ponder on is what storyline will it follow? And of course, there's also the matter on the actors who play the lead. Who's your bet to play Dante's role?
