The outspoken developers of Super Meat Boy are not big fans of the “freemium” mobile trend. In clearer terms, they think it’s “bullshit.”

A producer on Mass Effect 3 drops a not-so-subtle hint about the future of the franchise.
Mass Effect 3 is rolling on toward its official launch date of March 6, and despite the fact that the third chapter of the Commander Shepard saga has yet to hit shelves, EA and Bioware are already stirring up hype for the next game. Of course, the two companies haven’t made any sort of official announcements, but one producer offered a tongue-in-cheek hint to Mass Effect fans everywhere.
In an interview with Gamerzines, producer Mike Gamble simply said that hanging on to your Mass Effect 3 saves “wouldn’t be a bad idea.” He was mum on why exactly players would want to hang onto their saves, but suggesting they keep them handy is practically a confirmation of another game in the works.
With Mass Effect, players are invited to import their character saves from previous games. Decisions you make in Mass Effect, for example, have a lasting impact on the world you encounter in Mass Effect 2. And when you import your character from ME2 into ME3, you’ll be bringing two games’ worth of decisions along with you.
The suggestion that players hang onto their game saves indicates there will be another opportunity to import data, perhaps in a fourth Mass Effect title. The thought of bringing the decisions of three games forward sounds daunting enough from a player perspective – it’s hard to imagine how Bioware could even begin writing the damn thing.
Do you want more Mass Effect?

Despite claiming the contrary just a couple of weeks ago, the Entertainment Software Association has officially backed off both SOPA and PIPA.
SOPA/PIPA fallout continues to roll across the web, with every day seemingly bringing a new renouncement from a former supporter. Today’s news, however, is the biggest yet – the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which represents industry bigwigs like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, has officially reversed its position on the controversial legislation.
In a statement issued early this morning, the ESA noted that while it is still important to find ways to protect the intellectual property of its members, it was swayed by concerns over the “unintended consequences” presented by the current drafts of SOPA and PIPA. The ESA was, by far, one of the most powerful lobbying organizations that stood in favor of the bills; their retreat, though late, marks a big win for both the gaming community and SOPA/PIPA opponents in general.
As we mentioned last week, SOPA and PIPA have both been postponed – for now. Congress and organizations like the ESA are still looking for ways to control piracy, though now they adamant about finding a solution that addresses both the concerns of the entertainment industry and the worries of web users.
There is still time to make your voice heard on the issue, if you’re so inclined. You can do so here:

What do you think about the ESA’s reversal? Better late than never?

In light of tough second week sales, it looks like some Japanese retailers are cutting the PS Vita’s sale price.
The PS Vita, as we mentioned earlier in the week, had a pretty rough second week. After opening strong with over 324,000 sales, the device tanked by 78% and was outsold by both the 3DS and the original PSP. The 3G model in particular isn’t moving well, with retailers reporting that only 56% of those units have been picked up compared to 85% of the WiFi only version.
The tough week has led many analysts to panic about the device’s future and clamor for a potential price drop, but Sony has remained mostly mute on the subject. Now, however, it looks like Japanese retailers are speaking for the software company, dropping prices of their own accord.
According to Edge, one retailer has dropped the price on the 3G Vita from ¥29,980 to ¥24,999, a drop of around 17%. While only one retailer appears to be engaged in the price drop, it may trigger a domino effect of discounts across the nation – either to stay competitive, or simply to entice more people to buy the device.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see how the events in Japan translate here in the west. Vita could do better and it could do worse ;most of the launch games have a bigger western following than they do in Japan.
What do you think will happen with Vita when it hits shelves in March?
