Game Group’s financial troubles don’t appear to be getting better.
Game Group, the company behind the UK’s massive Game retail chain, has been in dire financial straits for some time now. Game Group has been struggling to regain its market position and turn the tides, but so far, things aren’t looking too hot. The company has already lost Nintendo support due to financial woes, and it looks like EA is next in line.
In a memo to employees, the company explained that it held negotiations with a number of distributors in the interest of protecting its business. In the meeting, Game Group explained to its industry partners that it was having a few problems, and needed more manageable credit terms while the company worked through its issues. Apparently, EA didn’t agree.
This means that after SSX comes out on Friday, no new EA games will hit Game store shelves—including Mass Effect 3. Players who pre-ordered ME3 at Game will be given £5 extra for their trouble. No word on how this affects players who pre-ordered the very limited Collector’s Edition.
In recent weeks, Game has missed The Last Story, Tekken 3D Prime Edition and all of Ubisoft’s Vita launch games. It’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy—Game’s sales tank, so it can’t get new games. It doesn’t have new games, so it’s sales continue to tank. Any way you cut it, Game is in a tough spot.
Do you think losing EA will be the final straw in Game’s collapse?

THQ hasn’t been doing great over the last few months, and this nasty letter from a former employee doesn’t make things look any better.
THQ, the company behind Saints Row: The Third, had a tough 2011. The company was in such dire straits that rumors floated around about it canceling its entire 2014 lineup, rumors the company vehemently denied. This morning we received word that THQ was shifting its strategies yet again, this time focusing more on its core franchises over third party licensing.
It’s hard to get a bead on exactly what’s happening with THQ. Rumors and sales indicate the company is in serious trouble despite the success of Saints Row, but the company refuses to admit that they have any sort of problem. Only one person seems to be willing to comment on the state of the company – an alleged former employee with an obvious bone to pick.
In a letter written to THQ’s Board of Directors, CEO Brian Farrell as well as the general public and a collection of gaming news sites, this “Formerly Mismanaged” employee rattles off a laundry lists of complaints about the company.
The letter essentially claims that THQ’s problems stem from mismanagement and a Board of Directors that has no clue how to strategically run a gaming company. It gives examples like acquiring game studios with no plan on how to utilize their talents (then later shutting them down), investing money into shrinking niche markets, the company’s refusal to dump a CEO that has tanked its stock price and high-paid executives making enormous mistakes that call their competency into question. The disastrous uDraw tablet also makes an appearance.
These allegations of management incompetency surface just a few days before THQ announces its current financial standing on February 2, and things certainly don’t look good. One analyst has gone on the record by stating that THQ, without some sort of financial windfall, with run out of cash near the middle of this year.
You can read the letter in its (extremely long) entirety below:
[JoyStiq]
"To:
THQ Board of Directors
Lawrence Burstein
James Whims, Gigex, Inc.
Henry DeNero, Arcturus Capital
Brian Dougherty, AirSet, Inc.
Jeffrey Griffiths , Lumber Liquidators
From:
Current and Ex-Employees, Shareholders, and The Public
Dear THQ Board,
I am an ex-employee at THQ. I saw the tweet-started headlines over the past week from an "industry expert." This expert is one who I and my friends and co-workers in the industry have never heard of after a long time in the field. I had been reading the various following articles and accounts and it generated sympathy for friends both recently laid off and currently still there. I thought it would be a good idea to send a note with their input. This note has honest facts and thoughts about THQ and the current problems there. Most of these facts are public knowledge and they have been confirmed by public records or can be confirmed by current and former THQ staff there both before and after my and their time.
I have long felt the need to explain to outsiders how this beaten-down company has wound up in this position. It is to the point where having it on your resume is not a point in your favor. And that shouldn't be the case. I'm/We're sending this note anonymously because some of us are still awaiting final checks and others know how little corporations like employees who air their dirty laundry. We feel the need to say something to combat the partial misinformation being written.
THQ had been known through the years for having a formula. They find a hot license, make a cheap game, barely advertise it, and make money. This formula worked during the Playstation and Xbox and Gameboy days and made the company a lot of cash. Unfortunately, THQ's old guard executives seem to be stuck trying to manage the company the same way they did back then and haven't realized the industry has changed.
The beginning of the end came years ago as Brian Farrell lead an executive team to acquire a large number of studios. A large amount of cash was used in the acquisition or setup of game developers with different degrees of talent. The problem was they were bought without strategic reasoning or specific plan on to use them. So after awhile another large amount of money was spent as those studios failed and were sold off and shut down. The executive team at the time were an entirely different group of people with one key exception in the CEO. The CEO/the then executive team wasted the cash that the company had built up with these massive investments and selloffs.
The studio purchase errors were not helped by the mistakes in the licensing deals that were signed by the same CEO. Millions and millions of dollars were wasted on acquiring licenses at the same time the kids, family, casual business was declining at a rapid rate. Instead of slowing those acquisitions he overpaid for more of them until again cash was wasted in paying for brands that didn't sell well anymore.
The mistakes in decisions and cash losses triggered wave after wave of layoffs. In the most recent wave, about 40 people lost their jobs this past December through no fault of their own. The reason why is the chronic and constant mismanagement of their company. The fact is that the CEO and executive committee were so focused on trying to hit an unrealistic financial goal that they bet everything on an extremely risky proposition in the uDraw tablet. When they lost, they further displayed their lack of management skills by not having a contingency plan. Three weeks after the game launched, an entire business unit was wiped out when it didn't meet its goal due to relying on that one product to hit an unrealistic target.
After the layoffs many ex-employees walked around shell-shocked and trying to figure out who was responsible. They came to the understanding that most of us do after leaving the company. The issue with THQ has never been one of lack of staff creativity, intellect or business intelligence. It all rests of the failure of its management team and you the Board of Directors.
This Board has allowed the Brian Farrell, the CEO, the ongoing ability to take a cash-rich profitable company and drive it from a $30 share price down to around $.70 without acting despite numerous mistakes that even for those lacking business training, could see were errors. Even without glaring mistakes how can the same CEO stay in charge after a 99% share price loss? Aside from the board, who is responsible for the current situation and who is accountable for the current and future job losses at the company? When you ask the recently departed who are a good source of information, you get the same answers. This uDraw failure is the largest and most recent one in a string of them that were hushed over and hidden. The answer aside from the Board is the current executive team that allowed this uDraw implosion to happen.
Brian Farrell, CEO with a 2011 salary of $1,289,558, for a lack of business intelligence or fiscal accountability. A vocal inside group pointed out the mistake of trying to launch a year-old product that received almost no software support in the last 12 months. Instead of listening and having a back-up plan, he went ahead and invested a ridiculous amount of money in the manufacturing and advertising of the product and failed miserably. It is passed time for him to go. We are wondering what is taking so long for you to act. We have been wondering this same question for a long time.
Martin Good, EVP and head of Kids, Family, Casual with a 2011 salary of $1,198,023, for bringing no strategic thought or business sense to the role. He was brought out from Australia sales to replace an outgoing head of the business unit and rapidly displayed a complete lack of leadership skills, vision, and any sort of analytical sense. Looking at his compensation package, he is an excellent negotiator as his salary is higher than anyone's except for the CEO. On the plus side he lost his job with the rest of those laid off. On the minus side, he will be floating down on a golden parachute while the rest of the former employees scramble to look for jobs in this challenging environment. Most of those jobs will be at studios in other parts of the country, so they will be forced to relocate their families in the middle of their childrens school years. It is incredible that he made this level of income while doing such a poor job, but it serves as a reflection of the lack of Brian Farrell's ability to staff well and manage.
Paul Pucino, CFO with a 2011 salary of $674,855, for not planning for this possibility and having a safety net or a plan to cover THQ just in case of failure. We have a line of credit that we likely used to buy the plastic that is not selling to customers. It is like taking a cash advance to buy THQ stock and just as worthless of an investment. Paul is known as an absentee executive who is missing when business situations gets complicated. While he was in the loop at the point of the risk, with the following failure he has been clearly unavailable. It is another example of Brian Farrell's inability to staff.
Ian Curran, EVP and head of global publishing with a 2011 salary of $1,037,047, for not flagging an unrealistic sales goal to the CEO or the Board when a big part of the corporation felt the numbers were unrealistic. He blindly held up an unachievable target and didn't act when multiple people told him he was aiming to high and out of step with the marketplace. If a sales executive's job is to anticipate the market, he has done a poor job of it. Another example of Brian Farrell not being able to find the right people for the right job.
Ed Kauffman, EVP of Legal and Business Affairs who clearly was signing bad deals on licensed products, not factoring in the changes in the business and being more critical with financial terms with partners. uDraw by itself cannot possibly explain the companies poor financial health. It is a combination of that product and a string of bad licensed deals that the company took on against better judgement. While Brain Farrell would logically be the final decisionmaker for deals, Kauffman is either unpersuasive in his arguments to not do them or supported them. Either situation equates to another example of poor staffing choices by the CEO.
uDraw was failure and the only people to blame are the people listed above. THQ and its current financial situation is also their responsibility. And they were paid around $4.5 million dollars for their poor decisions. If there is any doubt we would recommend talking to current and former staff to get the straight story. Don't read this note as bitterness on their part, but more as long overdue truth.
So, Board, it is time. Passed time for you to act and passed time for you to do something about the mismanagement that has gone on for too many years. We've watched the stock from the outside and read the comments and the reason why the company is valued so low despite its sales is because of this underqualified management team.
Board it is time for you to act before your names are added to the list above of things that must change.
Sincerely,
The Formerly Mismanaged"

PlayStation’s new handheld is still struggling in Japan.
In Japan, Vita sales have been continually sluggish since the device’s initial launch. Last week’s numbers don’t look any better, with the system moving just 18,361 units. If you’re keeping score, that’s three consecutive weeks of tanking sales – these numbers do not inspire hope in the future of the device, at least in the Japanese market.
Naturally, the Vita has yet to see a global release and many of the device’s launch titles are bigger draws here in the west. And while we’ve talked previously about the issues facing Vita, we’re certainly not going to issue a verdict on the handheld’s success before it launches in every available market. But for now, things don’t really look great.
By comparison, the Nintendo 3DS had sold 742,244 units in its first few weeks of launch, with the Vita moving 458,347 over the same time period. That means Vita sales are about 300,000 units behind the 3DS, a device that received a prompt price drop due to low numbers. Does this mean a price drop is on the horizon for Vita? Maybe, maybe not.
For now, it’s obvious Sony needs to get some better titles out for the device to sway Japanese consumers. As for us in the west, we’ll get a chance to see how the Vita performs when it hits shelves in February.

Numbers for the Vita’s third week on the market don’t bode well for the new handheld.
PlayStation Vita launched to an impressive 325,000 units sold, but tanked hard in its second week, dropping to 72,000. Unfortunately for Sony, the third week’s sales numbers are even worse – the device only managed to move 42,000 devices. While it’s obviously too soon to start ringing death bells for the device, the lack of interest in the Vita certainly isn’t inspiring confidence in its upcoming western launch.
The Vita, launched in Japan on December 17th, was outsold by the PS3, 3DS and original PSP on the hardware charts. As we saw yesterday, some retailers have even resorted to dropping the device price in order to get it off their shelves.
Naturally, the Japanese launch has little to do with the western launch, where games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss will likely draw a much larger number of buyers to the handheld’s open arms. However, one can’t help but draw conclusions from the rapid drop in interest for the console – high profile devices don’t usually fall of the map like this.
One thing is for sure – Sony is eventually going to drop the Vita’s price, maybe sooner than expected. If so, gamers may wait to pick it up until the inevitable discount, hoping to avoid a burn.
What do you think of the Japanese numbers? Are they having any impact on your willingness to buy a Vita?

In light of tough second week sales, it looks like some Japanese retailers are cutting the PS Vita’s sale price.
The PS Vita, as we mentioned earlier in the week, had a pretty rough second week. After opening strong with over 324,000 sales, the device tanked by 78% and was outsold by both the 3DS and the original PSP. The 3G model in particular isn’t moving well, with retailers reporting that only 56% of those units have been picked up compared to 85% of the WiFi only version.
The tough week has led many analysts to panic about the device’s future and clamor for a potential price drop, but Sony has remained mostly mute on the subject. Now, however, it looks like Japanese retailers are speaking for the software company, dropping prices of their own accord.
According to Edge, one retailer has dropped the price on the 3G Vita from ¥29,980 to ¥24,999, a drop of around 17%. While only one retailer appears to be engaged in the price drop, it may trigger a domino effect of discounts across the nation – either to stay competitive, or simply to entice more people to buy the device.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see how the events in Japan translate here in the west. Vita could do better and it could do worse ;most of the launch games have a bigger western following than they do in Japan.
What do you think will happen with Vita when it hits shelves in March?

Despite getting off to a roaring start, the PS Vita has completely tanked at is rolls beyond the first seven days.
In Japan, PS Vita certainly made its presence known during its launch week. The device moved over 320,000 units – putting it on par with first-week 3DS sales and far outstripping the initial haul of the original PSP. But the momentum doesn’t seem to have carried beyond early adopters, as the device managed to sell only 72,000 units in its second week.
Now, 72,000 devices sold certainly isn’t a terrible number, but it’s worth noting that the Vita was outsold by the 3DS, Wii, PS3 and original PSP – not a great sign for a device that’s supposedly the next handheld revolution. Gamers just aren’t flocking to the system as Sony might have hoped.
The software numbers aren’t any better, with not a single Vita game breaking the top 20. Of course, it’s hard to get a bead on exactly how well Vita games are selling, since many are available for download through PSN and Sony has yet to release their sales figures.
Vita is still young and we’ll have to see how the whole thing plays out, but dropping from 320,000 sold to 72,000 sold in just one week (in the middle of the holiday rush) certainly isn’t a good omen.
What do you think? Do these numbers indicate a problem for Vita, or is it just the natural progression of a new device finding its feet?

Flash mobs seem to be an increasingly popular method to get the attention of an ever-distracted populace. We’ve seen mobile phone companies and other businesses use dancing flash mobs for positive press, and who doesn’t love watching people dance their hearts out? Which is why it’s not that surprising that EA would put together a Star Wars flash mob to celebrate the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
What is surprising, however, is what the mob actually did. Namely, nothing:
Everyone just stands in place, giving bystanders the opportunity to snap pictures and place themselves in the battle. It looks really, really cool, so props to EA for putting something this awesome together.
It’s not as awesome as Tanksis, but it’s still pretty rad. In the meantime, however, EA is still struggling to keep up with demand in the actual game – players are facing long queues on most servers.

An Easter Egg discovered on Back to Karkand’s Wake Island hints at a sequel to DICE’s futuristic shooter.
Battlefield 3’s Wake Island is buried in Easter Eggs. First, users find dinosaurs hidden all over the place (likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to fans wishing for a BF3/Jurassic Park mash-up), and now one intrepid gamer has discovered another, more telling Easter Egg, in the form of “2143” painted on a tank.
Check it out:
Now, this could be mere set dressing, or it could be in place to stir up the rumor mill, but either way it brings questions to light – primarily, is DICE working on a sequel to Battlefield 2142? After all, almost nothing you find in a video game environment is there by accident, so the developers definitely went out of their way to print the numbers where they are. Then again, it could just be an elaborate troll on the part of developers known for having a little fun with their user base.
There’s really no way to tell what’s going on, and DICE has been silent on the issue. Basically, this is just one for the rumor mill until we hear otherwise. Or, we could just use our brains. Why wouldn’t DICE make a sequel to one of its most popular games? It’s not like they’re going to drop Battlefield 4 next year, right?
Right?

The maker of Farmville and others is ready to be a publicly traded company. But will investors come aboard?
If you’re a young company and you want to show everyone how awesome you are, your initial public stock offering is a very important day. We saw how well it went for Nexon earlier in the week, and now it’s Zynga’s turn to jump in on the sweet, sweet profitability of the stock market. Zynga shares have been set at an initial price of $10, giving the games developer a rough valuation of $7 billion.
There’s only one problem – investors don’t seem like they’re getting on board. Since launching earlier this morning, Zynga’s stock has already tanked by 7.4%. Stocks saw a brief surge upon launch, but they have been on the decline ever since. Unlike other tech firms, Zynga failed to ride the usual “pop” that occurs when a big company drops an IPO. Or, failed to ride it as high.
This could be evidence that investors are wary of Zynga’s shady reputation (and the way the company has been losing value all year), or it could just be the same old stock market jitters we see from time to time. However, Zynga remains a powerful and profitable force in the world of freemium games, so it’s safe to assume there is at least a short-term future in their stock. It’s not uncommon for companies to bounce up a touch, then fall – Zynga just did it a little more quickly than others.
That being said, it’s up to Zynga now to stay profitable. If they can continue brining new users in and milking cash out of their current players, they stand only to gain ground in the market.
Would you buy Zynga stock?

EA confirms that over two million players have logged on to test out what many are calling the most expensive game ever made, but can it possibly stop the WoW juggernaut?
Remember last week when Bobby Kotick from Activision expressed his doubts over Star Wars: The Old Republic’s profitability? Here’s your answer, Mr. Kotick: Since going into beta, over two million players have spent time in the world of SWTOR, with over nine million hours of playtime between them. This is certainly good news for EA, which has a huge, huge pile of money invested in the Bioware-helmed MMO, and it shows that when it comes to demand, Star Wars: The Old Republic is right where it needs to be.
Right now, the paid MMO market is dominated by World of Warcraft. The game still boasts 10 million players, and its expansions have seen unrivaled success. It’s a phenomenon more than a game, and challengers to the throne have never been in short supply – Aion was supposed to be the game that killed WoW, much like Warhammer Online before it. Many in the industry think that SWTOR has the potential to knock WoW from its perch, but I’m just not convinced.
The thing about MMOs is that you play them with your friends. I, for example, still play World of Warcraft because it’s how my sister and I hang out despite being a thousand miles apart. Back when I lead a guild (BWL days), it was made up of real-life friends. Hell, our main tank was my girlfriend. And I wouldn’t have left WoW to play another game unless everyone came along with me. I think quite a few people that would play SWTOR are in that position – and it’s definitely not limited to WoW players.
There are certainly going to be people that move from WoW to SWTOR. But I doubt enough people will leave one for the other to significantly impair World of Warcraft. Because, you see, that’s the distinction we have to make – sure, The Old Republic may land two, five, or even eight million subscribers, but in order for it to down WoW, those people can’t be playing both games. For The Old Republic to “win” the battle, a massive number of people will have to abandon WoW and play The Old Republic instead.
I don’t think we’re going to see that type of activity, and we’re definitely not going to see it right at launch. Then again, WoW has already lost two million subscribers this year, so anything’s possible.
What do you think? Can any game topple the WoW empire, or is it something that just has to fade with time?

Tomorrow’s 2GB Battlefield patch brings bug fixes, balance changes, and a few other goodies.
We knew that a Battlefield 3 patch was on the way, and we knew that it resolved a few glaring issues (like the tactical light – get it!? Glaring?!), but the full extent of the patch wasn’t really clear until the full patch notes went public. After a quick glance through, it’s obvious DICE is serious about keeping their game as balanced and fun as possible.
The bulk of the 2GB patch is content for the upcoming Back to Karkand DLC pack, but the rest is all adjustments to existing game mechanics. Among the fixes? A big nerf to mortars, a buff to jet cannons, spawn point adjustment and a ton of tiny tweaks to weapons. Here’s the full list of changes, courtesy of Battlelog:
Bugfixes
• Fixed a problem with spawn timer now showing blue border on startup and lost spawn point
• Fixed a problem where player who joined queuing on End of round got spawn screen stuck on screen, but unable to do anything with it until next round loaded
• Fixed a problem where camera would change to 3rd person on killcam when killcam was turned off in server settings
• Fixed stat references on several dogtags
• Fixed for surveillance ribbon not counting TUGS
• Fixed a missing combat area lines on the minimap for Grand Bazaar conquest small
• Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
• Fixed a problem where placing C4 with the russians soldier was playing US faction VO
• Fixed a problem where TV guided missiles could be shot into its own helicopter and destroy it
• Fixed a problem when attempting to fire lock on weapons without a target
• Tweaked the chat, it should now be a bit easier to read
• Fixed several vehicles that did not properly shoot rockets and guns towards their predictive sights
• Fixed the G17 Supressed Laser not working properly
• Added alternate HUD colors to help colorblinds
• Added a network interpolation setting. This allows users with good bandwidth reduce latency, but might increase some stuttering. The user can find what works best for his connection by tweaking the slider.
• Increased the Spawn protection radius on TDM
• Fixed a problem with smoke on land vehicles, Missiles should now miss more often
• Fixed a problem where users could end up with IRNV scope in any vehicle
• Fixed a problem where player dies if vaulting over a ledge and into water while sprinting
• Fixed several crashes and increased general stability
• Fixed a problem where the user was unable to revive two players that have the bodies one over the other
• Fixed so you can assign an axis and use as a digital input. This makes it possible for the player (on pc) to assign one of the sticks on a gameped to be used for throttle/brake.
• Fixed a problem with the Kill camera acting up when suiciding from parachute
• Fixed air radar was showing to much. now lasertagged, heatsignature above threshold, enemy missiles and capture points are only visible on air radar
• Fixed a problem where the game would enter a technical hang if the user pressed pause menu and tilde at the same time
• Fixed a problem where you could get green flashes on screen
• You can now reassign cycle weapons
• Fixed so the weapon zooms automatically after bipod deploy is gone when using zoom toggle
• Fixed a problem where the parachute would stay stuck in air if the owner was killed
Balance Tweaks
• Fixed several weapons so they are properly suppressed and hide the player on the minimap when fired.
• Tweaked Tactical Light so it is not as blinding over longer ranges.
• Tweaked the IRNV scope so it is limited to usage only at close range.
• Reduced heat masking effectiveness of Spec Ops Camo.
• Fixed a bug where Ammo spec would give additional 40mm grenades instead of Frag spec.
• Increased the number of additional 40mm grenades from Frag spec.
• Fixed so AT mines only live for 20 seconds after a player dies to prevent infinite mines.
• Increased the Time to Live on sniper caliber rounds to allow extreme distance shots.
• Fixed several weapon descriptions, calibers, and fire rates. The weapons themselves have not changed.
• Fixed so the M9 and MP443 pistol can be equipped by the opposing faction when it is unlocked at 100 kills.
• Fixed Laser Guided Missiles missing their targets if the target is moving too fast.
• Reduced the effectiveness of Stealth on Air Vehicles.
• Reduced the effectiveness of Beam Scanning for Jets.
• Reduced the damage done to Armored Vehicles and Infantry from AA guns.
• Increased the damage RPGs and Tank shells do to AA vehicles.
• Slightly decreased the accuracy for all weapons on fully automatic, burst fire is now preferable at mid to long range.
• Increased the effective accuracy of long bursts for LMGs when using a bipod.
• Slightly increased the range of the 44magnum bullets.
• Increased the close range damage of 4.6x30mm and 5.7x28mm bullets.
• Increased the reload time of the Mortar from 3.5sec to 4.8sec and increased the time it takes before a shell hits the ground.
• Reduced the aimed accuracy bonus given by a Suppressor for the MP7, P90, PP2000, PP-19, and UMP45.
• Increased the range and FOV for designating targets with the SOFLAM and vehicle Laser Designators.
• Decreased the effectiveness of 12g FRAG ammo when equipped on semi-automatic and automatic shotguns.
• Slightly Increased the power of Fighter Jet Cannons against all vehicle targets, especially Helicopters.
• Decreased the power of Miniguns against Jets and Helicopters.
• Increased the power of Stingers against Jets.
• Flares reload times for Jets and Helicopter Gunners have been increased.
• Tweaked the AN94 so its burst fire better conveys the real world advantage offered by this weapon.
• Added Single Shot to the AN94 as an available fire mode.
• Slightly increased the recoil on the M416 and removed the Burst Fire mode (this weapon incorrectly had burst fire, which was not authentic).
• Tweaked the spawns for TDM on Kharg Island, Grand Bazaar, Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Operation Firestorm, Damavand Peak and Noshahar Canals
• Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
• Tweaked the Gas station Capture area on Conquest on Caspian Border
• Tweaked the max vehicle height on Noshahar Canals
So there’s that. See anything you like?

Why play a game for free when you can buy it in a store, right?
If you’re unfamiliar with World of Tanks, here’s a quick summary: you drive tanks, other players drive tanks, and everyone tries to blow each other’s tanks up. It’s a pretty simple concept, but the game has done remarkably well and is quite popular among the freemium crowd.
Of course, wherever there is a popular game, there is money to be made. Looking to cash in on the success of their franchise, Wargaming.net is releasing an in-store version of World of Tanks, which will be available in European shops as of December 2.
The game will run you 10 Euros and comes with extra goodies worth around 20 Euros, such as 50,000 game credits and a special tank unit. Purchasing this version of the game also gives you a premium account for one week, as well as access to a printed strategy guide. Not too shabby for 10 Euros, assuming 10 Euros isn’t a lot of money. It’s not, right?
Look for World of Tanks in Germany, Austria, the UK, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, Greece, France, Portugal and Benelux.
Would you buy a game you can play for free, assuming the bonuses were worthwhile?

EA celebrates the UK launch of Battlefield 3 by turning London into a war zone and bringing tanks to the busy streets of downtown.
If you picked up Battlefield 3 this week at a midnight launch, what was the coolest thing that happened? Someone show up in costume? The store gave away some accessories? I’m sure it seemed cool at the time, but nothing is quite as awesome as rolling tanks through busy downtown intersections.
EA, with the cooperation of London, has rolled a series of tanks out onto the streets of London. Each tank has a sign on top that says “Tanksi,” and they’re apparently giving people rides to and from their morning destinations. Contrary to EA’s usual style, they’re also offering the rides free of charge.
Tom Goldberger of EA had this to say about the insane launch event:
“Tanksis have been brought to the Capital to make the urban battlefield that is London's roads more of a joy than the daily chore they currently are. We wanted to launch Battlefield 3 in style and are looking forward to ferrying excited game fans and commuters around the city today.”
There’s no word on how long the tanks will stick around, but if you happen to be in London you can try and track one down – they’re patrolling around Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Trafalgar Square and Big Ben.
EA’s media blitz seems to be working; as of this morning, Battlefield has shipped 10 million units – not too shabby, EA.

The wait for WWE 12 fans is soon to be over. THQ has confirmed via Twitter that their mystery superstar for the upcoming title will be revealed later today, Tuesday, October 11th.
Said THQ_Tank, "The wait is finally, just about over, the last remaining mystery @WWE 12 superstar on the regular roster will be revealed this Tues, October 11."
Considering that today is already October 11th, this means that the announcement will be given out any time now. It could be in a matter of few hours, or heck, if they're up this early, maybe even just a matter of minutes.
Regardless, we'll be sure to keep you posted on it as soon as the news hits the floor.
WWE 12 has been confirmed to be content-locked, and will also not be getting in-game superstar editing, though.
