Bethesda releases full patch notes for their latest Skyrim update, now in the certification testing.
It seems like it’s been forever since the launch of Skyrim, but millions of gamers are still spending their free time slaying dragons and “accidentally” murdering their followers. And, as is customary with Bethesda games, Skyrim still has a fair few issues interfering with players’ ability to fully enjoy the game.
The company is more than aware of Skyrim’s issues and has been working non-stop to get them fixed –especially the ever-present PS3 bug that makes the game nearly unplayable for some users. I’ll skip the analysis and go straight to the patch notes. If you’re a Skyrim fan, you’ll want to read through these:
NEW FEATURES

That’s quite a few fixes for one patch – Bethesda hopes to have 1.4 submitted for certification early next week.

Ó

Let’s talk about some of the issues with Battlefield 3’s multiplayer, and why it sometimes feel like DICE may have released the game a pinch too soon.
I’m not a huge Battlefield fan. When I say that, what I mean is that I didn’t play the older games and don’t have any extreme allegiance to the brand. I do prefer Battlefield to Call of Duty due to the more realistic sniping mechanics and a greater focus on team play, but I’m not the sort of person that runs around preaching about which game is superior. I like Battlefield games, but I wouldn’t call them my favorites.
I picked up Battlefield 3 on launch day and have since been playing multiplayer whenever I have some down time. I should probably note that I have the Xbox 360 version, so some of the things I’m talking about may or may not be applicable to your personal experiences with the game. I’ve never put the campaign disc in the tray and I doubt I ever will, so I can’t really say much about the single player.
For the most part, multiplayer feels like a well-oiled machine. Most maps seem well planned and I’m getting a fair amount of fun from earning unlocks and capturing points. Though I’m focusing on complaints in this post, I do want to mention that I’ve had a good experience with the game overall.
Except for the following:
Origin/EA/Battlelog/Online Pass
I understand that creating loyalty is one of the key elements of managing a player base, but I play on a console. Having to create an EA account link it to an Origin, and then register an Online Pass via a website getting slammed by new players was a frustrating and unnecessary experience. I pay for Xbox Live – let me put my game in and play. I must say that I do really like Battelog, but the upfront inconvenience in getting started was pretty lame (and seems to be worse for PC players).
Scope Glare
Look, I play Recon. In fact, I play almost exclusively Recon. But, I play Recon – not “Camping sniper.” I spot targets, paint vehicles with the SOFLAM, capture points when I can and drop Radio Beacons. Anyway, in BF3 certain riflescopes have been given a glare effect to help limit the potential for camping. While I understand the mechanic, the glare is ridiculously bright, even in low-light situations. When I’m charging through a pitch black tunnel and I see something that looks like the north star shining out of the darkness, it shouldn’t turn out to be a scope. Needs to be toned down a bit.
Operation Metro CQ
If anyone out there has played Operation Metro in Conquest mode, you’ve probably noticed that the map is insanely unbalanced. Due to the map’s linear design and lack of flank routes, it’s much easier for the Russian team to capture point B and hold it. I would say that the majority of games I join for CQ end with Russia winning and the US losing – getting up and into point B can be quite a difficult feat. It’s also, for some reason, the only map that requires you to pass through one point to cap another – you can’t simply run around B to cap point A and put some pressure on, you have to go through point B first. Needs a little love for the US.
Jets
Jets are cool, I get it. But when I’m in a level with jets, it often seems like they’re playing a completely different game. I’m sure this is a failing of my teammates somewhere along the line, but all I ever see jets do is chase each other around and ignore everything that’s happening on the ground. Somewhere, someone has to have made a tutorial on how jets can apply to the ground game, so please watch it before you jump in the cockpit.
Technical issues
While the release version of Battlefield 3 is nowhere near as buggy as the beta, there are still a significant number of minor glitches and bugs. Texture pop, screen tear and a variety of weird clipping issues have shown up in my matches, with one in particular getting me killed (a two-inch step that has to be jumped over, since the character apparently can’t step). Also, the game often “forgets” which pistol I have equipped. Oh, and let’s not overlook the server issues – I always get a failed connection the first time I try and join.
So that’s a brief rundown of the common Battlefield issues I’m noticing. The list certainly isn’t comprehensive, but it’s made up of what has stood out to me as a player. Like I said before, they’re having a relatively minor impact on my play, but it’s still quite a few issues for a game that was supposed to be one of the best FPS experiences of all time.
If you’re playing Battlefield 3, what problems have you noticed that didn’t make the list?

Ó

The EVE Online developer claims it spread itself too thin on unproven projects and now needs to focus more on the EVE universe.
CCP is, in my opinion, an excellent developer. They are incredible at working with their community, and for that they deserve a top slot in the upper-echelon of game development studios. However, I would wager I wasn’t alone when I felt skeptical about the prospects of their new titles, Dust 514 and World of Darkness.
It appears CCP didn’t feel too great about those new properties either and after taking a hard look at its development principles and business model, has decided to dramatically cut back staff and focus more exclusively on keeping EVE alive and well. The studio wants gamers to know that development on both World of Darkness and Dust 514 is slated to continue, but I’m getting a bad sensation that at least one of the projects will eventually be scrapped.
Here’s part of the official statement:
As we reexamine our outward relations, we are also taking time to reevaluate our internal goals. In doing so, we have come to the conclusion that we are attempting too many things for a company our size. Developing EVE expansions, DUST 514 and World of Darkness has stretched our resources too thin.
Rather than allowing this to persist, we have made the decision to sharpen our focus. Sadly, this means reducing our staff. We estimate that around twenty percent of global positions will be affected by this process. These will be predominantly in our Atlanta, GA office, although select positions in our Reykjavik, Iceland office will be affected.
We are very sad to lose some of our talented and dedicated colleagues to this necessary process. Naturally we are making every effort within our means to help them find alternative employment. Decisions like these are difficult for all those involved and extraordinarily sad for all of those whose lives are affected.
Following this reorganization, we must do a better job by focusing on these priorities:
For the immediate future, our mission is to enrich the vast EVE Universe by strengthening the continuous development of EVE Online while preparing to bring DUST 514 to market on the PS3. We do this in order to realize our ambitious and challenging plan of joining the two in a cross-platform, truly massive online world.
World of Darkness will continue development with a significantly reduced team. This team will continue to iterate and expand on the gameplay and systems they have designed. We will also redeploy creative teams in Atlanta to support the launch of DUST 514.
It sounds like CCP is dedicated to bringing both titles to fruition, so hopefully they can see it through. EVE completely changed the way a multiplayer game could function and was one of the first titles in which you could turn being a bad man into a good living – a real change from the imagined individuality of other MMOs.
Do you think these layoffs indicate tough times for CCP’s games, or are they merely a natural step back from a company that overstepped its means?

Jackie's story has been condensed in some three minutes and a quarter video. Well, not all of it exactly, but you should get a better understanding of what he's going to go through in the upcoming sequel to 2K Games' million unit-selling 2007 title.
Particularly important in this video is the presentation of how the Darkness lures in its victims, eventually consuming them. The narrration in the video adds a somewhat comical twist, but that doesn't mean the challenges you'll meet are comical. See for yourself:
The Darkness II was originally slated for an October release, but has now been moved instead to February 10, 2012.

In case you haven't heard, a new vampire game is about to come out, and from what those who've seen it so far are saying, it's looking to be the best vampire MMO yet.
A tall order and a bold statement, indeed, considering that the game is still in its early stages of production. Fortunately for those who were at the Grand Masquerade in New Orleans this weekend past, however, they were able to see for themselves exactly just what kind of progress is already made.
Massively was one such lucky party, and from them, we find out that, "The entire game will take place at night and on one server." As with any vampire stories, you bet you this isn't fit for the faint-hearted (come on, you had to have a strong stomach too to make it through Twilight). They further revealed, "Nudity, gore, and insanity effects are all par for the course."
In the story, you'll be starting out as a human, but will eventually be confronted with the decision of whether to turn into a kindred (vampire) or not. It looks like the game is still a world away from the finishing line as the most they can give us is that it's coming out "2012 at the earliest," this according to publisher CCP.
No rush, though. We're sniffing this one out, and so far, it does smell good, all in all. Too early to tell, yes we know, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Should you be on the lookout for that one thing with The Darkness II, it should be that of 2K Games "going all out" for it.
In an interview Destructoid, producer Seth Olshfski was quoted - rather eloquently - what they have in mind for the dark sequel. "It was a little bit more 'f*** it, we're gonna go all out."
"If you look at the first game, you gain more and more and more powers, and then when you get to the end of the game there's this cinematic sequence where your demon arms start slashing people tobits and picking up people up and throwing them around - absolutely wreaking havoc.
That was sort of the inspiration for the second game, we were like 'hey, I wanna be able to do that with my own controls. I wanna be able to make the demon arms do those things.' And Jackie is so powerful. He's earned that action. It makes a lot of sense for it to be that active because he's learned how to use his powers."
The Darkness II won't be out for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 till February next year, so in the meantime, try to find out as much as you can about it, courtesy of the PAX 2011 interview with Olshfski. It was originally supposed to come out this October, but was held off for better polish.
