Custom firmware and backup loaders are things that used to be confined to the handheld space of Sony's current generation of video game consoles. Now that they've finally crossd over to the PS3, Sony is scrambling to clamp down on the piracy and modding that are creeping into their big black home video game console.

squarepusher2 has released a new version of SNES9x PS3, a port of the Super Nintendo emulator for the PS3. Now on version 4.4.5, the latest update includes the addition of an HD mode combined with a new graphics shader.

Currently, there are already over a hundred individuals listed in Sony's legal action against the people that successfully cracked the PS3. Some have been named, like Geohot, and some haven't even been identified. In the latest roundup of leaked court documents obtained by PSX Scene, it appears Sony will be going after more hackers.
