There's plenty of extremely anticipated titles coming, but one of the most hot and imminent is none other than Mr Payne, who's made his way to your TV sets already. |

Just a few days after Maxis hinted at a big GDC announcement, it looks like their surprise has been outed.
It’s been a while since we last saw the SimCity franchise. The last game in the series, SimCity Societies, launched in 2007 to mixed reviews. Since then, Maxis has remained mum on whether it would be revisiting the series. Until, of course, last week, when EA hinted that the company had an enormous reveal planned for this year’s Game Developers Conference.
No information was given on what Maxis might have up its sleeve, but most people immediately began to assume that a new SimCity was on the table. And, it turns out, they may have been right.
Thanks to some scanned images from a German magazine, we now have a few details and screenshots/concept art from what could be SimCity 5. The game will take place 20 years after other iterations of the franchise, and will feature more flexible city designs that don’t depend so much on blocks. The game will also feature a new graphics engine and – gasp – multiplayer in the form of global leaderboards.
Here’s some of the shots and concept art, courtesy of NeoGaf:
Are you ready for another SimCity?

IGN recently conducted a poll in which it asked its readers a variety of questions about shooters in general and what they thought was the best shooter of 2011. Not surprisingly, the two games that came out at the top of the poll were Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Crytek’s hours-long hardware demo finally makes its debut on consoles, and much to the surprise of PC purists everywhere, manages to run at full-HD resolution.
There was a time when “Crysis” represented everything that was possible in the realm of PC gaming. While the game wasn’t really that great (be honest with yourselves), on a killer system the graphics were simply unmatched. Of course, the original “Crysis” is now three years old, and “Crysis 2” has taken the new role of “mediocre game with incredible graphics.”
Until recently, it was thought that “Crysis” would never be seen on console systems. The game’s tough hardware demands made it seem all but impossible to bring the game to the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 without a massive loss in visual quality. Most of us were surprised to learn, earlier this month, that the game would be headed to both systems via direct digital download.
Now, it seems, we have even more reason to be excited. In an interview with Now Gamer, Crytek employee Franziska Lehnert had this simple but exciting statement to offer on “Crysis’s” console performance:
“The original Crysis will support both 720p and 1080p on both consoles.”
Pow! Do you hear that PC gamers?! We console folks get everything you get, only maybe dumbed down a bit and definitely much, much later. “Crysis” is going to output at full 1080p, meaning you’ll finally get to make some use out of your massive, expensive LED television. Even though the 360 and PS3 support 1080p output, a large number of games stick to 720p due to the way the higher resolution roughs up the hardware. 1080p support for “Crysis” is a pleasant surprise, ensuring console gamers get the best experience possible on one of the most attractive-looking games around.
Just look at these screenshots :
So, gamers - are you planning on picking up a digital copy of “Crysis” this week? It still looks as pretty as ever.

Fans who can't get enough of Crysis can now have the chance to get the original title from the PSN and XBL.
EA confirmed today that the original title will definitely be available for download on the PS3 and Xbox 360's online service come next week, specifically on October 4th.
To enjoy this game to the fullest, you'll need to first shell out UK£15.99 (about US$ 25) on PSN, and 1600MS Points on XBLA.
Meanwhile, just last week,Crysis 2 was also confirmed for XBLA's Games on Demand. Looks like EA's definitely bent on milking the Crysis cow for all its worth. There should be nothing wrong with that, especially because it's still very much in demand anyway.

EA's keen on expanding its business venture, with its latest project being EA Origins, their new download service. Now, a lot of people can't help but see it as some sort of competition for Valve's Steam. The suspicion rose all the more when Crysis 2 was taken out from the Steam Store.
EA maintains their ground, however, that they are not gearing for a fight. EA's David DeMartini tried to downplay the issue in a recent interview with Gamasutra, saying that, "Obviously when a big publisher comes up with their own application and launches a site where you can buy games directly, people immediately jump up to the conclusion that means they're going to exclude everyone else. "
"We believe in absolute freedom of choice to allow customers to buy through whatever retail outlet... as long as they're buying an EA game, we're delighted. We feel like if you buy the product with Origin, where we're going on a long-term basis is we'll integrate some of the Origin feature set into many of our highest-profile IP... but by all means if your preferred retailer is Best Buy or Direct2Drive or Impulse or Steam or Amazon... we're going to make our product available to you."
To further justify, he concludes with this statement: "I am absolutely not at this point saying, 'hey, it's Origin versus Steam.' It's never been about that."
Sounds like all should be fine and dandy, right? But if you look closely, it sounds rather forced. Take note of that operative "at this point" phrase. But of course they're looking to win over Steam, at least insofar as their catalogue is concerned.
They'll start with their own titles, and then most likely, they'll expand to other services and products. Question is, can they really handle the bull by its horns? The atmosphere of competition definitely is thick in the air. But frankly, one really can't take it against EA if they choose to go this path given that it's about the only course they have if they want EA Origins to take off. What better way to promote your own service but through your own existing brand and products, right?
Nonetheless, Steam remains to be the biggest online distributor in the market today. And while there doesn't seem to be any visible and solid threat from EA Origins, there most certainly is an impending one. With EA's vast catalogue of titles most likely to not be seeing Steam's light of day ever again, they will have to bank on their roster from other publishers still supporting their service.
Despite their denials of an existing competition, though, if you were to take sides, whose would you pick? EA Origins or Steam?
