US Army showing off CryEngine 3 for Training Sim

The US Army have stepped up to play their own game of Modern Warfare.

The graphics of CryTek have shown that gaming technology can be beautiful and incredibly profitable, especially when your client is the US military.

The government has spent $57 million dollars on a soon to be unvieled project showing off RealTime Immersive's latest creation for the US military which will help men and women with combat training for the US military.

Game Development for Next-Gen Xbox Officially Begins

A Crytek employee spills the beans on his LinkedIn page. Oops!

Ah, Reddit. A place for kittens, Anderson Cooper’s disapproval and the occasional tidbit of gaming news. This particular story comes courtesy of wwm0nkey, who discovered an interesting note on a Crytek developer’s LinkedIn page a few hours ago.

Apparently, Crytek has already shifted over to developing games for the next-gen Xbox. Which is good news, considering that if anyone is going to make a next-gen game that can push the limits of the new hardware, it’s going to be the developers of Crysis.

Here’s the quote from the developer’s page:

RYSE (X-Box Next Gen) Pushing boundaries of next generation gaming, RYSE is an original AAA IP from Crytek slated to deliver an Epic first-person melee experience in the Roman Empire.

• Designed, created, implemented and scripted numerous game levels using all facets of Sandbox Editor and CryEngine.

• Lead and mentored Jr. Level Designers and Level Designers as well as collaborated with colleagues across multiple disciplines to ensure winning efforts.

• Championed original Game Design for Tablet title exclusive to Crytek and expanding the franchise to include new genre of video game.

We’ve heard a little bit about RYSE in the past, but it looks like the game has officially been pushed to the next Xbox device. Since games are already in development for the new system (and the new PlayStation as well), it looks like we may be a bit closer to an official announcement than we may have thought.

Alternatively, the whole thing could be a hilarious misunderstanding. What do you think?

Free CryEngine 3 SDK hits 100K downloads

So remember when Cyrtek made the cryEngine 3 SKU free just last week? Well, people bit it hook, line and sinker, if the download numbers are any indication.

The CryDev website reflects that CryEngine 3 has been downloaded so 104,623 times so far. With this much people downloading the free SDK, we should be seeing much more independent games being developed. After all, that's the whole point of this exercise.

Said Crytek, "We want you to make games with CryEngine 3 that people will want to play. We hope that your work will lead to a product you can commercialize. If this is the case, before you can sell your work or your game, you must seek a development license for CryEngine 3."

So remember when Cyrtek made the CryEngine 3 SKU free just last week?

Crytek raves about 'really, really easy' Kinect development

Crytek's always been vocal about their support for Microsoft's Kinect. The lovefest continues as Engine Licensing director Carl Jones talks about how they've "found a partner in Microsoft who shared our vision."

said Jones, "It's been really, really easy getting the CryEngine working with Kinect. Microsoft has built it extremely well and it's easy to use. They've given a lot of assistance, both in terms of technical support, samples and hands-on expertise, now we're trying to push it in new directions to do some clever stuff."

CryEngine 3's even being rumored to be prepping for the alleged Xbox 720. Everything's still hush-hush at this point.

Halo 4 to arrive with Xbox 720 in 2012?

Game reviewer Arthur Gies is of the belief that Halo 4 will be getting a 2012 release, along with Microsoft's next-gen, Xbox 720. How did he come to this assumption?

"Because that would be the most beautiful, system launching stroke they could possibly make next Christmas, is to attach Halo to it," he said when asked about the odds of a dual announcement. "And also, that would completely separate talk of Halo and how much it sells versus Call of Duty and any sort of discussion."

But wasn't Halo 4 confirmed for Xbox 360 at this past E3? Said Gies, they "heard not enough at E3 to be so sure about that." He also made note of his obvservation that it was "totally obvious" that a new console will be coming out come November 2012. To him, it's plain as day that it's happening simultaneously next year, based on his observation of how Microsoft handles their thing.

"So yeah, we're going to have a new Xbox next year and have a new Halo with it... I don't mind being wrong, but I'm going to enjoy being right in announcing this system next year."

CryEngine 3 is also being speculated to be getting on board the Xbox 720 train, based on the developers' claim that they're setting their sights on something more long-term, even beyond Xbox 360. Analysts have also chimed in, saying that a release next year is definitely possible.
