nintendosmalaThe cool thing next to having a Nintendo DS that can do 3D is to be able to play homebrew in 3D. The Crown3DS flashcart is another to join the many of its kind for the Nintendo 3DS. Let's take a look of what the team is bringing to the table. If you haven't already, here's a reason to join the earlier DS lineup in terms of flashcarts.

Suck it, Vita.
The Nintendo 3DS has quickly become the comeback kid of the games industry. Despite a weak launch that went so poorly Nintendo was forced to drop the price of the unit, the 3D handheld has surged in both western and eastern markets and dragged itself, somehow, to the top of the heap. 52 weeks after initially launching in Japan, the Nintendo 3DS has officially become the fastest system in history to land five million sales in Japan.
The previous record, naturally, belonged to the Nintendo DS, which moved five million units in 56 weeks. 3DS continues to perform well in Japan, even now that the Christmas holiday has passed and gamers are back to watching their wallets. The device moved 67,558 units last week, far outstripping new competitor PS Vita’s 13,939.
Things are a little different here in the west, with the PS Vita set for launch this week and a slightly less enthusiastic response to the Nintendo 3DS. We’ll just have to see how things play out over the next few weeks—can Vita stake its claim in a new market, or is the 3DS on its way to becoming yet another jewel in Nintendo’s increasingly heavy crown?
Given the choice, would you buy a Vita or 3DS?

Bethesda releases full patch notes for their latest Skyrim update, now in the certification testing.
It seems like it’s been forever since the launch of Skyrim, but millions of gamers are still spending their free time slaying dragons and “accidentally” murdering their followers. And, as is customary with Bethesda games, Skyrim still has a fair few issues interfering with players’ ability to fully enjoy the game.
The company is more than aware of Skyrim’s issues and has been working non-stop to get them fixed –especially the ever-present PS3 bug that makes the game nearly unplayable for some users. I’ll skip the analysis and go straight to the patch notes. If you’re a Skyrim fan, you’ll want to read through these:
NEW FEATURES

That’s quite a few fixes for one patch – Bethesda hopes to have 1.4 submitted for certification early next week.

Ó

The recent registration of the Pokémon Gray domain and persistent rumors indicate that your favorite collectable creatures may be preparing for their 3D debut.
This year saw the launch of Pokémon White and Pokémon Black for the Nintendo DS. Both games were about as successful as Pokémon games usually are, and received about the same response from critics and fans as usual. Nintendo is the one company in gaming that seems to understand the maxim of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and Pokémon is the crown jewel of their empire. Before the latest round of Pokémon games were announced and long before they hit our handhelds, Nintendo purchased the Pokemonblackwhite.com domain through Melbourne IT Digital Brand Services.
Now it looks like fans of the Pokémon brand have something new to look forward to, as the very same company has recently put a lock on Pokemongray.com. It could be some savvy web user looking to extort a few thousand dollars out of Nintendo, but it’s more likely that Nintendo is once again using Melbourne IT DBS to set up a domain for its next big property.
The site is pretty bland and states only:
“This Internet address is being managed by Melbourne IT DBS for one of the world's top brands. At the present time there is no active Web Site for the address. It may be under construction, or the owner may have reserved the address for future needs. “
So before we get all excited and start arguing about our favorite Pokémon, it’s probably best to wait for an official announcement. One can’t help but think this might be the first Pokémon title to grace the Nintendo DS; it’s pretty much the only major Nintendo franchise that hasn’t made an appearance on the device. Of course, if history is any indicator, the game is more likely headed to the regular Nintendo DS, with remastered or brand new games hitting the 3DS a little while later. That’s what we saw with Pokémon Silver and Soul Silver, for example.
What do you think is going to happen? 3D Pokémon or DS Black/White mash-up? Do you think Pokémon’s simplistic gameplay will transfer well into 3D?

Two of Sega’s top-selling iOS games are about to be made available to players free of charge, but only for 24 hours.
AppAllStar, a website dedicated to providing free daily apps for iOS users, just announced something they’re crowning  “Championship Week.” The event’s primary goal is providing players with the chance to download awesome apps without having to pay the normal cost associated with the game. The event is in celebration of the AppAllStar App receiving over a million downloads, so they’re looking to pass a little thanks on to their customers.
Championship Week begins on October 23rd, and it looks like they’re getting started with a bang. Both Streets of Rage and Super Monkey Ball 2, two of the most highly downloaded games in the iTunes app store, will be available for free downloads during Championship Week, with Monkey ball hitting on the 23rd and Streets of Rage 2 landing on the 28th. Like I said, you’ll only have 24 hours to download them, so mark your calendars.
There isn’t much info on what other titles will be offered during the week, but the AppAllStar press release indicates that they’ll be either Sega titles or games developed by SkyVu. Other developers may be in the mix as well – there’s no clear list of who is and isn’t participating.
All I know is that for seven days, you can look forward to getting one awesome free game per day. So why not take part? The only thing you have to lose is the time you spend downloading, and you probably weren’t going to accomplish much in that 30 seconds anyway.
As for me, I’m definitely getting in on Super Monkey Ball. I absolutely love that game series and for some reason didn’t even realize it was available for iOS devices.
Are you excited to get some free apps?

The voice actor says goodbye to his longest-running role and, in the opinion of this writer, goes out with a bang.
It’s sort of strange to think, but there are likely just as many people that associate Mark Hamill with Batman as there are who associate him with Star Wars. In both franchises, he has played a completely iconic character with strong ties to fans across the globe. However, just as he hung up his lightsaber at the end of the original Star Wars trilogy, he’s setting aside his trick bowtie and insane cackle now that Arkham City is on shelves.
The actor has long hinted that Arkham City would be the last time he visited the role of the Joker, he was quoted at last year’s San Diego Comic Con as mentioning that the game would be his character’s last hurrah. He seems to have confirmed this statement as of this morning, posting this to his Twitter account:
“Hello/Goodbye Joker! I've enjoyed every minute behind the wheel of the Crown Prince's crazy car- I'm going to miss him more than I can say!!”
We’ll have to see if this fond farewell holds up – it’s not uncommon for actors to walk away from a role only to return for something particularly interesting, and Hamill has noted his desire to act in the Joker-centric Killing Joke. In the meantime, here’s hoping we get some more Joker performances from John DiMaggio – he was great in Under the Red Hood and naturally has my vote due to an unabashed love for Futurama.
Will you miss Hamill’s Joker? Do you feel that Arkham City was an appropriate send-off for the character?

Microsoft's really got it going good for them, especially with two superstars exclusively residing on their Xbox 360 console. Both the Halo and Gears of War franchises have consistently sold exceptionally well, each further upping the ante with each new release. But really, which one can be considered Microsoft's "crown jewel".
According to Saber Interactive CEO, Mathew Karch, he's going to have to pick Halo over Marcus and the rest of the Gears of War gang.
"We realize how important [Halo Anniversary] is and we've gone all in on it," said Karch of their inclusion in the Halo Anniversary project. "It's Microsoft's crown jewel - that's my opinion. People can say Gears, but as big as Gears is it isn't Halo. I don't think they have a Gearsfest every year. I don't know, maybe they do, they had a Halofest and Anniversary was a key component of it and it showed really well."
Well, we wouldn't really want to base the "crown jewel" position based on festivities, but he's got a point. In terms of for how long each series have been raking in the moolah for Microsoft, then it's going to have to be Halo again, having started since 2001, while Gears was born only in 2006.
Personally, though, aside from that, I would also have to agree that Halo is Microsoft's crown jewel if only because it landed the Xbox title across millions of households more immediately and consistently than Gears. Every release is a calculated one, and, okay, seniority does take play in this too. Truth is, the development of Gears is also just as heavily influenced by Halo. So if only for that, I'd vote Halo too for Microsoft's "crown jewel".
But that's just my own opinion. Am sure you might have a different one from mine, so feel free to let us know your vote in the comments section below.
