Square Enix drops details on FFXIV’s billing structure so players know what to expect as the game shifts off the F2P mechanic.
Final Fantasy XIV has officially reached the end of its forced free beta, and Square Enix seems to think they’ve finally hit a point where people will be willing to pay to play. They announced the shift back to a regular subscription model about a month ago – now they’re ready to move forward with the change.
Here’s what that means for current players: As of January 5th, your FFXIV account will be suspended until you opt back into the billing system. Monthly fees will be set at $9.99 until the release of FFXIV 2.0, the updated version of the MMO, at which point they’ll bump up to $12.99. You’ll also need to pay $3.00 per extra character on your account – the basic subscription covers only one main character.
If you play FFXIV, you may want to check out their official site to get a bearing on what to expect. Then again, it’s pretty basic MMO stuff. You pay money; you get to play the game. The real question is whether players will be willing to shift from F2P back to a subscription model.
Do you think players will pay for FFXIV, or did the game already miss its chance?

Religious song not removed or changed in Bioshock Infinite Trailer
Apparently the word Lord has been thrown about and now some religious groups are not happy.
The game of Bioshock Infinite, if like it's predecessors, will touch on American Values taken to a new limit. The previous games have often tested the line between sanity and chaos when it comes to beliefs, both religious and scientific. The game's most recent trailer caused an uproar when the lyrics to a song contained the word "Lord" and was deemed blasphemous. Will the Circle be Unbroken, sung by Courtnee Draper, the voice actress who plays Elizabeth in the game.
People got confused from the original track and this cover version , which does not contain Lord. The original lyrics from Ada R. Habershon written in 1907, does contain the word in the chorus, however, the song's lyrics were changed in 1912 and more versions and covers were changed by and by, through the years. Great artist's such as Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash have covered the song and changed it too...
Irrational Games, Ken Levine confirmed this via Twitter saying that the word "Lord does not" feature in their new trailer. This is quite a different religious uproar from the removal of a song from the Little Big Planet soundtrack which contained an Islamic verse. It's strange what religious people will and won't allow in their video games, aren't they too busy playing Left Behind?

Ó

Two Telltale employees are apparently really, really proud of their latest game.
Metacritic compiles the review scores of movies and games from all around the web, then uses them to assess an overall value. It’s a helpful service, but it’s led to quite a bit of crybaby nonsense from the gaming community. When Uncharted 3 landed an 8/10, some gamers cried foul and claimed that the score was just to hurt the Meta-rating. The same thing is happening for GameSpot’s 7.5/10 rating for Skyward Sword.
So it’s not surprising to see devs taking more notice of the service. We already saw Call of Duty devs asking gamers to give MW3 better user reviews, but now Telltale has taken it a step further by giving their own game high marks to bump up the Metacritic ladder.
Basically, employees of Telltale, who just released the Jurassic Park game, have been caught red-handed writing shining, perfect reviews of their latest game. The writers in question, both artists, offered such praise as “a mix between Heavy Rain and LA Noire,” but for some reason kept posting the exact same review under different usernames.
The game was hovering at a 10/10 despite review copies being hard to come by, and a little investigating quickly brought you from the review pages directly to the developer’s LinkedIn profiles. Oops!
Then again, Telltale is right when they say their employees can do whatever they want when they’re on the Internet, as long as they identify themselves. After all, what developer doesn’t believe their game deserves a ten? And the review scores were posted in the “User” area, so it’s not like there’s any real harm done.
So what do you think of this mess? Innocent mistake or fiendish plot?

Five posts from the last few days that you may have missed, but shouldn’t have.
Saturdays can be slow news days, and it’s hard to keep up with everything that happens during the week. So, with that in mind, I’ve compiled a quick list of the most Jumped/Commented posts of the week, as well as a quick rundown on what you’ll find should you choose to read them yourself. Also, I’m giving one special QJ user the illustrious “Comment of the Week” award, so be sure to check that out at the end of this post.
Here goes:
Did You Kill a Rat in BF3 Single Player?
PETA is pretty upset about a scene in Battlefield 3 that has you pick up a rat, stab it with your tactical knife and toss it aside. Comments overfloweth on this post, but it looks like most people seem to agree that PETA needs to calm down. Read the full post and add your thoughts to the discussion – is in-game violence cause for real-life concern?
PoV: Is it Time for PlayStation 4?
In this post, I talked about the speed at which PC systems are outstripping consoles, and whether it’s time for an official announcement on the next Sony console. Sony probably isn’t dropping the system any time soon; analysts say it’s strong until 2015. Most commenters seem to feel that the PS3 has plenty of life in it – what do you think?
Colorado Man Loses His Mind Over MW3 Pre-Order
This post covers the very strange occurrence at a Colorado Best Buy on Tuesday night, when a man threatened to shoot employees and blow up the store because they ran out of copies of Modern Warfare 3. Commenters think the guy should have chilled out, but some have noted that Best Buy should have stocked enough games to cover their pre-orders. There’s also a fair bit of CoD bashing, if that’s the sort of thing you enjoy.
You Can Play Skyrim Forever
Bethesda recently revealed that Skyrim’s radiant story system will continue to create quests for as long as you own the game. This essentially gives you an infinite Skyrim experience. Comment reactions are pretty positive, though one commenter somehow manages to insult Modern Warfare 3 in the process. What do you think about a truly infinite experience?
Android and iOS Stomp Nintendo and Sony Handhelds
News that the mobile games market finally eclipsed traditional handheld games sales took the industry by storm. Games for these two mobile platforms have generated more revenue than PSP and DS games combined, but some savvy commenters noted that the DS and PSP are near the end of their lifespans, and the data may not be as impressive as some may think. Check out the post and decide for yourself!
And, finally, it’s time to present one special person with “Comment of the Week.” I’ve read through piles of comments – some good, some bad, and some absolutely awful – but the clear winner this week is doo che, for his/her comment on “You Can Play Skyrim Forever:”
“I HAVE NOT BEEN THIS EXCITED FOR ANYTHING IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
YOU COULD GIVE ME 18 HOOKERS AND AN INFINITE SUPPLY OF BACON AND I STILL WOULDN'T GIVE A SHIT, CAUSE SKYRIM COMES OUT TOMORROW!”
I hope the game turned out as good as you were expecting, doo che. Keep on trucking.

Bethesda releases a quick clip from the special edition DVD, “Behind The Wall: The Making of Skyrim.”
Skyrim is just under two weeks away from release, and many RPG lovers (read: me) are pretty freaking stoked. Bethesda is looking to capitalize on this hype as much as possible, and has released this quick clip from their behind-the-scenes DVD:
This three-minute clip covers the making of the Skyrim trailer and features developer commentary on how they went about putting the whole thing together. If you’re a fan of Oblivion or Fallout 3, you may even recognize a few friendly faces as the video roams the back halls of Bethesda’s labs. The video clip is just one part of the documentary developed for the game, but gives a good indication as to what kinds of content you can expect.
Of course, if you want to watch the rest of the video, you’ll need to pick up a collector’s edition of Skyrim. I would do that, except it costs an absolutely ridiculous $149.99, thought it does seem to be packed with cool stuff.
If you opt for the CE, here’s what you’ll find:
Alduin Statue. Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector's only statue stands 12" tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater.
The Art of Skyrim' Official Art Book. Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8" x 12 1/8" coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim.
The Making of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim' DVD. This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team.
Are you getting excited about 11/11/11? Did you pick up a collector’s edition, or does the high price point turn you off?
I’m sure there are some Elder Scrolls fanatics that are okay with buying a game at that price point, but personally, I would opt for one regular copy of Skyrim and one regular copy of Skyward Sword.

After an insane week of speculation, confirmations, and exclusive confirmations, Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer combat is on full display in this new trailer.
It seems like only yesterday that we were trying to lock down whether or not Mass Effect 3 would actually have multiplayer. Cagey responses from Bioware, leaked magazine covers, supposed quotes from inside the industry and a variety of other bit of information floated around the web for a while, until the developer finally confirmed the presence of multiplayer in this hotly awaited title.
Now, as if to celebrate this information going live, Bioware has graced us with a new trailer featuring some of the multiplayer action we can expect from Mass Effect 3.
The basic gist of the video is that you and your friends will be able to play through parts of the Mass Effect 3 storyline together, acting as a squad and working together to accomplish goals. You’ll also be able to play as characters and races previously unable to you, since the game has revolved exclusively around Commander Shepard.
What’s really interesting is that apparently your actions in multiplayer can have a major impact on the ending of the game. Mass Effect is known for its multiple endings, with the very bad ending of Mass Effect 2 being one of my favorite moments in gaming history. The developer says you can absolutely reach the most successful conclusion in single player, but you can opt to accomplish some of those goals with friends instead.
So, Mass Effect fans – is multiplayer a great addition or an unwelcome distraction?

We’re still a month away from Bethesda’s eagerly anticipated RPG, but some industrious gamer has found and leaked the included game manual for all to see.
If there’s one thing people on the internet seem to love doing, it’s leaking things about Skyrim. First, the achievements were leaked, and then someone in Russia gave up the game map. Now, some clever gamer has acquired the manual that comes packaged with the game, and has uploaded it in its full glory.
The game manual is taken from the Xbox 360 version of the game, and covers everything from basic movements to in-depth spell explanations. If you’re trying to avoid Skyrim spoilers, you may want to stop reading here, as the rest of this post discusses information gleaned from the manual.
Fast Travel still exists in Skyrim, and much like Oblivion, time will pass while you travel from one location to the next. You won’t be able to transport from inside or during combat, and you may only use the feature to visit places on the map you’ve already discovered.
You’ll level your skills through repetition (as usual), finding Skill Books, or paying other skilled characters to teach you what they know. The more you level your individual skills, the more times your character levels up, allowing you to add new perks and boost your stamina or magical capabilities.
The manual is massive so if you want a full grasp of everything it covers, it’s probably best for you to check it out here: Skryim Game Manual
In the meantime, we’ll keep our ears to the ground for any other leaks or newsbreaks regarding what is shaping up to be one of the biggest titles of the year despite heavy competition from the Battlefield and Call of Duty franchises.

CD Projekt isn't exactly sure yet if they're coming out with a third iteration of the series, but what's sure is that they do intend to keep content coming for The Witcher 2.
Said Jan Bartkowicz, "Of course we're not announcing anything. We cannot say, I cannot say - I don't know if it's going to be The Witcher 3 or something else that covers the story, but that there's probably going to be some releases in the future."
He furthered, "We still have one big title ahead of us in The Witcher franchise. All I can say is - outside of when the pre-production starts and finishes - with the story team we were probably in pre-production for The Witcher 3 during making The Witcher 2.
Just because even while we were doing The Witcher 2 it was all about, you know, there's got to be probably something after."
His response, at most, are all teases, and nothing affirmative can be pinpointed at this particular juncture. What he is certain, though, is that there definitely is something coming up for The Witcher 2, and that 2.0 is not going to be the last update you'll see for it.
Patch 2.0, by the way, will be out just a couple of days from now, September 29th. It should bring with it some major new features and enhancements.
