The Last Guardian is Still in Development

Despite the departure of game creator Fumito Ueda, the follow-up to Team ICO and Shadow of the Colossus is still in the works.

News broke early last week that Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, was leaving Sony. It’s worth noting early in this article that the departure has yet to be confirmed by either Ueda or Sony, so at best everything that’s been said since that story broke is pure speculation. At worst, it’s blatant rumormongering.

News of the departure did stir up concern over Ueda’s long-delayed PS3 follow-up, titled The Last Guardian. It’s a highly anticipated title that has seen its fair share of developmental troubles, and with Ueda off the project fans began to worry that it may never see the light of day.

But here are the facts: One, the original story/rumor confirmed that completing The Last Guardian is a part of Ueda’s contract, even if he leaves. Two, Ueda has recently made statements on Twitter regarding the game, letting fans know they shouldn’t worry, and that the game is still in development.

Like I said, there’s been no official word from either party regarding the split, so take anything you hear about this project with a grain of salt unless it comes from Sony or Ueda directly. In the meantime, it’s okay to pour yourself a celebratory drink to enjoy confirmation that one of the most eagerly awaited titles on the PS3 hasn’t been indefinitely shelved.

Japanese charts: Dark Souls debut at number 1

The wait will just be for a teeny bit more. Dark Souls has been confirmed to be delayed for Japan by developer From Software.

Due to "various reasons", the game will not be making its September 15th launch date in the land of the rising sun. It's not going to be too much of a delay, though, as it's been pushed back only by a week. The new release date will then now be on September 22nd.

They did not make mention on anything about the North American launch, however, but hopefully, it will not be affected by this Japanese delay.

Dark Souls comes out for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, published by Namco Bandai. Back in June, the Dark Souls team opened up a contest for the game wherein fans were encouraged to design their own shield and get the opportunity to win Dark Souls goods. There are also a bevy of bonus contents lined up for all awaiting fans.

Ico & Shadow of the Colossus launch trailer

Fans awaiting ICO & Shadow of the Colossus have got a huge treat in store for them today as Sony released the official launch trailer for it.

That's not the most important bit about today, though. The game itself actually came out today. The video here should only augment for the excitement that you will encounter in playing the game. It runs for a minute and a half, simply dishing out the stories for both games.

Meanwhile, Sony will also be giving out bonus content for the game, which essentially provides an insider's look at what went on behind the development of ICO & Shadow of the Colossus.

Anyway, it's better if you go enjoy the video now, and hopefully you've picked up the game as well so you can enjoy that as well.

ICO: Castle in the Mist novel out this month

ICO's coming out with a novel tying it up to the much-awaited PS3-exclusive Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection.

The novel, ICO: Castle in the Mist, will be published by Viz, under the Hakasoru novel brand. The good news is that whereas its release date was a secret, now, there's an actual window pegged for it.

Castle in the Mist will be coming out in a short couple of weeks, on August 16th, to be exact. This should be a good run up to the Collection, which is slated to arrive on September 27th.

To get you all hyped up further for ICO and Shadow the Colossus Collection, check out the bonus contents recently revealed for it. While at it, you might as well watch the awesome Japanese promo videos as well.

Civilization V update now out

Dev studio Firaxis has finally released the delayed update for Civilization V in preparation for the launch of the game's Polynesia DLC later this week.
