Nintendo has an official launch window for fans of the series.
Pokémon White and Black were the closest thing to a refresh the Pokémon series has received in a long time. While Game Freak didn’t make too many changes to the “throw Pokéball, commence fighting” mechanics of the game, new graphics and streamlined maps made the games seem almost new and innovative.
If you enjoyed Pokémon Black and White, you probably caught wind of the news that a sequel to each is headed your way. And thanks to an official confirmation from Nintendo, we now have some idea of exactly when that will occur. As we noted in the announcement article, the Japan release is set for June. If you live in the U.S. or in Europe, you can expect to be battling away again this fall.
The two games are direct sequels to Black and White, and this announcement marks the first time in the history of the primary series that a title has been given a number in lieu of new colors. Black/White 2 are being released on the Nintendo DS, which indicates that a 3DS-specific Pokémon title is still a ways away. Still, 3DS and DSi owners will have access to special functions (unrevealed, at the moment).
Beyond that basic info, we don’t have many details on Pokémon White/Black 2. We’ll keep you updated as information slips out.
Are you ready to catch ‘em all, again?

The new “Metro” dashboard update is causing a few problems for streaming video, problems Microsoft apparently knew about before launch.
Software launches are always hit and miss. Some features end up working just as planned, and others end up breaking or completely disabling your system. Win some, lose some. However, in most cases, the bad things that come with a software update are unexpected problems a developer must race to fix – not well known bugs that have been reported time and time again by your beta community.
This is exactly the case when it comes to the new Microsoft Xbox dashboard. The latest update, titled “Metro,” added all sorts of interesting features to the Xbox dash. It also, however, seems to have had a negative impact on the way videos appear on your screen. While not hugely different from the original dashboard video playback system, whatever Metro uses to show video is washing out colors and making videos look a little less vibrant.
The issue was reported several times by the beta testing community that had early access to the Metro dashboard, and Microsoft’s response was apparently, “Yeah, we’ll get right on that.” The video playback issue is especially strange when you consider that Metro is billed as the Xbox’s huge multimedia update, and it’s very annoying that they’d run a beta then ignore the feedback of their testers.
Overall, feedback for Metro has been mixed. Personally, I like some of it, and hate other parts. The Netflix update, for example, is pure garbage. But I like the revisions to the main screen; they make it easier for me to push through my most commonly used applications (read: Battlefield 3, Netflix).
Have you had any issues with Metro? What are your thoughts on the new dashboard?

Tomorrow’s 2GB Battlefield patch brings bug fixes, balance changes, and a few other goodies.
We knew that a Battlefield 3 patch was on the way, and we knew that it resolved a few glaring issues (like the tactical light – get it!? Glaring?!), but the full extent of the patch wasn’t really clear until the full patch notes went public. After a quick glance through, it’s obvious DICE is serious about keeping their game as balanced and fun as possible.
The bulk of the 2GB patch is content for the upcoming Back to Karkand DLC pack, but the rest is all adjustments to existing game mechanics. Among the fixes? A big nerf to mortars, a buff to jet cannons, spawn point adjustment and a ton of tiny tweaks to weapons. Here’s the full list of changes, courtesy of Battlelog:
Bugfixes
• Fixed a problem with spawn timer now showing blue border on startup and lost spawn point
• Fixed a problem where player who joined queuing on End of round got spawn screen stuck on screen, but unable to do anything with it until next round loaded
• Fixed a problem where camera would change to 3rd person on killcam when killcam was turned off in server settings
• Fixed stat references on several dogtags
• Fixed for surveillance ribbon not counting TUGS
• Fixed a missing combat area lines on the minimap for Grand Bazaar conquest small
• Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
• Fixed a problem where placing C4 with the russians soldier was playing US faction VO
• Fixed a problem where TV guided missiles could be shot into its own helicopter and destroy it
• Fixed a problem when attempting to fire lock on weapons without a target
• Tweaked the chat, it should now be a bit easier to read
• Fixed several vehicles that did not properly shoot rockets and guns towards their predictive sights
• Fixed the G17 Supressed Laser not working properly
• Added alternate HUD colors to help colorblinds
• Added a network interpolation setting. This allows users with good bandwidth reduce latency, but might increase some stuttering. The user can find what works best for his connection by tweaking the slider.
• Increased the Spawn protection radius on TDM
• Fixed a problem with smoke on land vehicles, Missiles should now miss more often
• Fixed a problem where users could end up with IRNV scope in any vehicle
• Fixed a problem where player dies if vaulting over a ledge and into water while sprinting
• Fixed several crashes and increased general stability
• Fixed a problem where the user was unable to revive two players that have the bodies one over the other
• Fixed so you can assign an axis and use as a digital input. This makes it possible for the player (on pc) to assign one of the sticks on a gameped to be used for throttle/brake.
• Fixed a problem with the Kill camera acting up when suiciding from parachute
• Fixed air radar was showing to much. now lasertagged, heatsignature above threshold, enemy missiles and capture points are only visible on air radar
• Fixed a problem where the game would enter a technical hang if the user pressed pause menu and tilde at the same time
• Fixed a problem where you could get green flashes on screen
• You can now reassign cycle weapons
• Fixed so the weapon zooms automatically after bipod deploy is gone when using zoom toggle
• Fixed a problem where the parachute would stay stuck in air if the owner was killed
Balance Tweaks
• Fixed several weapons so they are properly suppressed and hide the player on the minimap when fired.
• Tweaked Tactical Light so it is not as blinding over longer ranges.
• Tweaked the IRNV scope so it is limited to usage only at close range.
• Reduced heat masking effectiveness of Spec Ops Camo.
• Fixed a bug where Ammo spec would give additional 40mm grenades instead of Frag spec.
• Increased the number of additional 40mm grenades from Frag spec.
• Fixed so AT mines only live for 20 seconds after a player dies to prevent infinite mines.
• Increased the Time to Live on sniper caliber rounds to allow extreme distance shots.
• Fixed several weapon descriptions, calibers, and fire rates. The weapons themselves have not changed.
• Fixed so the M9 and MP443 pistol can be equipped by the opposing faction when it is unlocked at 100 kills.
• Fixed Laser Guided Missiles missing their targets if the target is moving too fast.
• Reduced the effectiveness of Stealth on Air Vehicles.
• Reduced the effectiveness of Beam Scanning for Jets.
• Reduced the damage done to Armored Vehicles and Infantry from AA guns.
• Increased the damage RPGs and Tank shells do to AA vehicles.
• Slightly decreased the accuracy for all weapons on fully automatic, burst fire is now preferable at mid to long range.
• Increased the effective accuracy of long bursts for LMGs when using a bipod.
• Slightly increased the range of the 44magnum bullets.
• Increased the close range damage of 4.6x30mm and 5.7x28mm bullets.
• Increased the reload time of the Mortar from 3.5sec to 4.8sec and increased the time it takes before a shell hits the ground.
• Reduced the aimed accuracy bonus given by a Suppressor for the MP7, P90, PP2000, PP-19, and UMP45.
• Increased the range and FOV for designating targets with the SOFLAM and vehicle Laser Designators.
• Decreased the effectiveness of 12g FRAG ammo when equipped on semi-automatic and automatic shotguns.
• Slightly Increased the power of Fighter Jet Cannons against all vehicle targets, especially Helicopters.
• Decreased the power of Miniguns against Jets and Helicopters.
• Increased the power of Stingers against Jets.
• Flares reload times for Jets and Helicopter Gunners have been increased.
• Tweaked the AN94 so its burst fire better conveys the real world advantage offered by this weapon.
• Added Single Shot to the AN94 as an available fire mode.
• Slightly increased the recoil on the M416 and removed the Burst Fire mode (this weapon incorrectly had burst fire, which was not authentic).
• Tweaked the spawns for TDM on Kharg Island, Grand Bazaar, Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Operation Firestorm, Damavand Peak and Noshahar Canals
• Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
• Tweaked the Gas station Capture area on Conquest on Caspian Border
• Tweaked the max vehicle height on Noshahar Canals
So there’s that. See anything you like?

Nintendo is bringing an all-new 3DS handheld unit to stores as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game that started it all, The Legend of Zelda.
Another day, another version of the Nintendo 3DS hitting stores. It seems like the news this fall has been packed with different 3DS releases, with colors, bundles and all variety of weird rumors floating all over the web. Today is no different, as Nintendo has announced one more 3DS bundle for the holiday season.
The new bundle features a special edition Zelda 3DS handheld that’s black with gold accents, and will include a copy of Ocarina of Time 3D. You’ll find this very classy-looking bundle on sale in Europe on November 25th, but I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t bring the Zelda bundle to the States as well – Zelda is a pretty big deal over here.
Nintendo’s strategy with the 3DS seems to be evolving into “paint it, put a game in it, and sell it.” I’m not sure how it’s going to work out for them, but seeing this 3DS bundle marked the first time I’ve felt compelled to buy a 3DS since its release.
I’m still holding out for the “Lite” version, or its equivalent. What about you? Is a special edition handheld enough to sell you a 3DS?

In the midst of all this negative Nintendo news, the company announces brand new bundles just in time for the upcoming holiday season.
It’s been a tough week for Nintendo, but the company is showing no signs of slowing down as it ramps up for a holiday season that could dramatically impact its bottom line. If you live in Europe or Australia, you’ll have the opportunity to pick up one of two new Nintendo 3DS bundles, with each offering having something to do with the Ice White and Coral Pink color variations we’ve been talking about for the last few weeks.
Here’s the rundown on the bundles and what 3DS games you can expect to see:
Coral Pink –Launching November 17 in Australia and 18th in Europe
Includes: Nintendogs + Cats
Ice White – Launching November 18th in Europe only
Includes: Super Mario 3D Land
It’s pretty clear who Nintendo is targeting with the two bundles, and they’ve obviously put some thought into giving parents an easy choice when it’s time to go Christmas shopping. Sadly, we don’t know whether these bundles will show up in North American markets, but Nintendo would be remiss to skip any opportunity to increase the 3DS’s market share. Super Mario 3D Land looks like the better buy – the return of the Tanooki Suit from Mario 3 is all they need to sell me a copy.
The new bundle announcements come hot on the heels of a similar announcement for the Nintendo DSi XL- one Midnight Blue and one Metallic Rose, both including Mario VS. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem and Brain Age Express.
Are these bundles going to sell you a 3DS? Like I’ve said before, I’m waiting on a Lite version and, hopefully, Super Mario Galaxy 3D. Without interesting titles, the 3DS is more of a brick than a console.
Also – wasn’t the original color “Misty” pink? What happened?

Nintendo has been on a roll with announcements for the 3DS and is likely hoping to recoup some of the big losses they’re expecting to post this quarter. Could yet another 3DS color variation be in the works?
A couple of weeks ago, we received confirmation from Nintendo that there were two new 3DS units heading to shelves in the next few months. Both Ice White and Misty Pink are slated for North American release, and fan reaction seems to have been mostly positive. But a leaked flyer from a Japanese games retailer hints at one more possible color variation that remains unannounced: Leaf Green.
The flyer, which included the now-confirmed 3DS Monster Hunter bundle, seems to indicate that the 2012 release of Luigi’s Mansion 2 will be marked with a brand new 3DS color, bringing the total color variations up to five – Cosmos Black, Aqua Blue, Misty Pink, Ice White and Leafy Green.
We know that there are plenty of colors in the works, as Nintendo showcased gold, purple and orange versions of the handheld back at E3 2010. While no official release dates have been provided and updates on new colors have been rare, it’s safe to assume that some of those colors will eventually make it to the States. Nintendo is expected to post large losses for this financial quarter and it wouldn’t be surprising if they chose to scale back their 3DS production until the numbers lined up a little better.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 hasn’t been given an official date of release, so we’re just going to have to wait and see what Nintendo chooses to do. This new 3DS is still in rumor-only status, and could turn out to be one game shop’s strategy for earning a little attention and driving some business to their shop.
Would you be interested in a green 3DS? Personally, I’m waiting for 3DS Lite, or whatever the next iteration is.

The beautiful iOS RPG was a smash hit, but will its visuals hold up when displayed on a screen larger than a few inches?
Infinity Blade, built on the Unreal Engine, was an incredible example of the possibilities of mobile gaming. Its rich colors, complex storyline and hours of gameplay led it to become an addition to millions of iPhone home screens, as gamers flocked to what many considered the first true gaming experience for iOS gamers.
Thanks to the huge success the game has experience on iOS platforms, it looks like a whole new group of gamers are getting a chance to explore its fantasy world. Epic Games has just announced that Infinity Blade FX will start showing up in arcade form at Dave and Busters locations around the world on October 28th.
The game boasts many of the same features seen in the original iOS version, with a single player mode and multiplayer challenges. There’s no word on whether you’ll be able to use your iOS device in sync with the arcade game to create a sort of augmented iPhone experience, but either way you’ll be able to jump directly into the story via the in-house arcade machine.
In other Epic Games news, Infinity Blade 2 is coming exclusively to the iPhone 4S later this year, with the launch tentatively scheduled for December 31st. We’re keeping a close eye on Epic’s news feed, so we’ll let you know if anything changes.

The Man of Steel is looking to make a comeback, with a new movie in the works and a classic return to form headed to the iPad and iPhone.
While the success of the Marvel movie franchise is hard to overlook, DC Comics has had a much more mixed experience at the box office. The Batman series is trucking along as a hallmark of superhero filmmaking, but the remainder of the DC properties just haven’t seemed to catch on with viewers.
DC is looking to change all of this with the upcoming Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.” Taking a page from the Dark Knight/Captain America playbook, the film will be gritty and rooted more in reality that previous Superman adventures. Superman will also be making a new appearance on you iOS device, though the game doesn’t seem to be based at all on the new film.
Superman: iPad (the name I’ve just given it) is being developed by Chillingo and Tiger Games, and looks as though it’s taking its cues directly from the Superman comics of old. Bright colors and familiar villains are on display here, with players suiting up in the familiar blue tights and using Superman’s many powers to protect the city of Metropolis.
You’ll earn medals for your performance in each level, generating a bit of replay value for perfectionists and Superman fans alike. Beyond that, the rest of the game is essentially a mystery. Superman titles in general have a legacy of failure, especially the much-maligned Superman 64. Here’s hoping Superman: iPad can escape those previous mistakes and create something memorable and fun.
Do you think this new Superman game is the Man of Steel’s chance to shine, or is it going to be a disaster?

The graphics card developer touts brighter colors, comfortable glasses and a more immersive experience than ever before.
Today seems like the day of 3D news, first with the announcement of 3D support for Assassin’s Creed Revelations and now with an update from NVIDIA regarding the next iteration of their 3D Vision accessories. The company is promising a much more enjoyable experience, with a greater field of view, less eye strain, and reduced ghosting from monitors.
I’ll let NVIDIA explain what they’ve changed, straight from their press release:
"NVIDIA 3D LightBoost technology makes 3D games, movies and photos more stunning and life-like than ever before," said David Wung, senior director of product management of Open Platform Business (OPBG) Group for ASUS Computer International. "With 3D LightBoost and our new full-HD monitors, colors are richer, textures and subtle image details virtually jump off the screen, and the overall quality of the experience is something to behold. We are thrilled to be the first desktop display manufacturer to bring this new level of 3D visual quality to our customers with the ASUS VG278H."
That certainly sounds promising. Of course, it’s a press release, and press releases are designed to sound promising. What we know for sure is that the current generation of 3D technology simply isn’t that great, and it’s going to take a major innovation in image quality and comfort to push 3D from a fringe passion to a mainstream habit.
On the plus side, you can check out NVIDIA’s new 3D system for a relatively low cost, depending on how much money you prefer to invest in gaming experiments:
The 3D Vision 2 glasses kit, which includes one pair of 3D Vision 2 glasses and a wireless USB IR emitter will be available from the leading retailers/e-tailers worldwide in October for $149 (USD MSRP). It will also be available on the NVIDIA online store
Look for the new 3D Vision system to hit shelves sometime in October of this year.

Nintendo continues its trend of multicolored handheld devices by announcing two new colors for the 3DS. Can this update bring new customers to the platform?
The Nintendo 3DS has experienced its fair share of issues since launch. Customers don’t seem to be in any hurry to purchase it, and the lack of demand has already caused Nintendo to drop the price substantially in the hopes of finding more players. Even hardcore Nintendo fans like myself have lamented the overall lack of titles and the sore eyes that accompany long-term 3D play.
Nintendo doesn’t seem to be dissuaded by these minor setbacks and instead has announced two new color additions to the 3DS line-up. Japanese consumers will be able to choose between “Misty Pink,” available on October 20th, and “Ice White,” available on November 3rd. This brings the total number of 3DS color variants to five: Ice White, Misty Pink, Aqua Blue, Cosmos Black and Red Flame.
As of right now, there is no confirmed release date for the color variants here in the States, but it’s safe to assume we’ll be seeing them soon enough.
While new color configurations are certainly one way to pull in new buyers, they don’t really solve any of the primary problems gamers currently experience with the 3DS. The drop in price is certainly agreeable to consumer wallets, but without a killer game, it’s unlikely that new color variants will bring too many more gamers into the 3DS fold.
The 3DS release schedule for the holiday season looks strong through, with “Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns,” “Super Mario 3D Land” and “Mario Kart 7” all set to hit shelves in the next couple of months.
Are you tempted to buy a 3DS when new colors arrive, or are you waiting until better games come along?

mf3ds1Nintendo continues its trend of multicolored handheld devices by announcing two new colors for the 3DS. Can this update bring new customers to the platform?

bodycount

Bodycount has been pushed back a couple of times already, but this new developer's diary only proves that the game continues to chug along in the development studios.

In this edition of their dev diary, Codemasters Guildford takes us on a trip to show how they came up with their decision for Bodycount's visual style.
Max Cant, Art Director, walks us through first this dramatic presentation of The World. He characterizes the torn depiction of the world, a dying world, as a very odd way to start the game, but it definitely sets the tone effectively.
Game director Andy Wilson then brings us on quick tour around the world, which retained vibrant colors despite the bleak and dreary atmosphere. The locations, in particular, were important in providing and amping up the severity of the feel of the game.
It's all looking impressive, and the thought that obviously went into its creation is definitely something that the development team could be proud of.
Bodycount is set to come out next month, under its new release date,  for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
