Gamescom 2011: EA Line-up

Gamescom is set to open its gates in Cologne, Germany in a mere couple of days. Electronic Arts isn't about to be left behind in the action, and has now released their full line-up for the event.

Here are the things you can expect from their side of the fence:

350 gaming stations at the EA booth allowing more consumers than ever before to get hands-on play with each game.

FIFA 12: Huge space that puts players on the pitch to experience the gameplay action.

Battlefield 3: A dedicated 64-person multiplayer area with the most authentic modern shooter experience of the year.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: 36 hands-on stations with Origin Worlds and 16 hands-on stations for PvP.

Need for Speed: The Run: Get behind the wheel in a race for your life from the Golden Gate to the Empire State.

The Sims: 3 Pets: Hands-on play on all platforms

Mass Effect 3: A high octane alien invasion adventure explodes in an all-out galactic war. The time has come to join the war effort and experience the industry’s most critically acclaimed RPG first-hand.

The Sims: Social: The Sims on Facebook — coming soon!

The Secret World: Funcom producers will be showing an exciting live demo in one of many dungeons, highlighting combat, progression and boss fights.

Valve releases first official DotA 2 screens

As they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. After having a couple of screenshots leaked from DotA 2, Valve took it upon themselves to finally release the official one.

Yes, it's straight out from Valve's studios, and this shot showcases the Doom Bringer. It comes right in time, too, since the game will be tagging along at Gamescom happening this week in Cologne, Germany.

Although they did respond to the leakage by coming out with the first official screen of the game, Valve remains quiet on the matter, offering nary a comment about said loophole in their security.

If you happen to be dropping by Gamescom this week, you might want to check out The International tournament, which will feature 16 of the best DotA gamers in the world.

DotA 2 Screens leaked

You weren't expecting this, for sure, but you were definitely hoping for it at the back of your mind. Well, it's here, fresh and leaked screenshots for the sequel to the highly popular RPG, Defense of the Ancients, DotA 2.

Valve probably isn't feeling too happy about this leakage (or maybe they are), but fans most certainly are more than welcoming these screens with open arms.

Really, the images should be apt enough to speak for themselves:

These images were probably meant to come out to Gamescom, happening next week, but apparently, some people just can't wait. Anyhow, there's more to look forward to at Gamescome for DotA 2, what with "The International" tournament also taking place in Cologne.

16 DotA teams, known to be the best in the world, will in competition for the grand prize of a cool US$ 1 million cash.

Sony Gamescom 2011 conference streams live on PS Home

You won't have to miss Sony's presser at this year's Gamescom even though you can't physically bring yourself to Cologne, Germany.

Right in the comforts of your own home, through PlayStation Home, you can watch the presscon live, uninterrupted.

Said Sony of the details on their PlayStation Blog, "On August 16th at 5PM CET the space will be available from the Navigator and the What's New section of the XMB. We will be streaming the Sony press conference live into the space from 7PM CET onwards, but don't worry if you miss it the first time round; we will be looping the hour long press conference once it's finished and we will also be putting up video edits in the space later on."

Among the items expected to be delved into by Sony at this presser is the much-talked about new PS3 model, which would feature a different design. As for a price drop for the console, it's still left to be known, but hey, it's just a week away.

Gamescom 2011 happens in Cologne from August 17th to the 20th.

The retailer has slashed off a significant 25% for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii versions of Ubisoft's up and coming open-word action-racing title.

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are now pegged at US$ 44.99, from an original price of US$ 59.99. Meanwhile, the Wii version also gets discounted from US$ 49.99 to US$ 37.49.

If you're going to be in Cologne for the Gamescom, you can be sure to find Driver: San Francisco in attendance, being included in Ubisoft's event line-up. Meanwhile, it's been confirmed as well that the game's multiplayer framerate is definitely cut down in half.

Bohemia Interactive to bring the big guns to Gamescom 2011

Cologne is going to be swamped with games -- and good ones at that -- come August. Bohemia Interactive has confirmed their attendance to the event next month, promising to bring their latest, up and coming titles for PC.

Confirmed to be showcased are: Take on Helicopters, Carrier Command: Gaea Mission, and of course, the recently unveiled ARMA 3. Bohemia is guaranteeing that these games will have a demonstration so that fans will have a more concrete idea of what to expect from it.

If you find yourself fortunate enough to be milling around Gamescom come August 17th through 21st in Germany, do feel free to drop by Bohemia's booth, located at Hall 4.1, F47.

Bohemia Interactive has confirmed their attendance to the event next month, promising to bring their latest, up and coming titles for PC.

Sorry, Sony fans, but the reported July 15th "surprise" that the media giant was supposedly set to make is actually not happening.

The alleged suprise was enlisted on GameTrailers TV schedule. As it turns out, however, said episode will in fact be but a replay of the May 13th episode. Back then, the show was entitled "Sony Surprise", wherein they ended up confirming Starhawk.

This probably is the reason why the July 15th episode reflected a "Sony Surprise" when in fact there is none. Not at this point in time, at least. In any case, Sony will be making an appearance at the Gamescom in August in Cologne, so most likely they'll be taking out the big guns over there.

Journey comes out with new gameplay video

thatgamecompany first announced Journey at last year's E3, but it took this long for them to come out with a gamepaly video that showcases what it truly has to offer.

The gameplay video runs for just under a minute and shows scenes previously demonstrated at the gamescom event in Cologne last August. Despite that, however, it still does not fail to impress as the video looks absolutely amazing.

There's still no date set for the PSN-exclusive title, but with more assets coming our way, it should be safe that it could be coming within the year. That's just our little guess, though. We'll be keeping you update on more.
