Remember when Nintendo promised you some free games? Well, they’re officially on the way.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program, here’s some backstory: First, the Nintendo DS was released to the general public for the astounding price of eight million U.S. gold bars. After a couple of months of terrible sales, Nintendo opted to drop the price to a much more agreeable $169.99. And, to help soothe the minds of those that purchase the handheld at the original price point, the company promised to give every early-adopter ten free Game Boy Advance games.
The release of those games was delayed a couple of times while Nintendo got everything figured out, but they’ve officially announced a real-life release date as well as a list of the games to be released. Look for your Ambassador titles on December 16 – if you live in Japan or Europe. There has been no confirmation from Nintendo’s North American branch quite yet, but it’s safe to assume the games will launch on the same day unless we’re told otherwise.
Here are the ten games you can pick up on Friday:
• F-Zero
• Super Mario Advance 3
• The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
• Fire Emblem Seima no Kouseki
• Kirby & the Amazing Mirror
• Mario Kart Advance
• Mario vs. Donkey Kong
• Metroid Fusion
• Wario Land Advance
• Made in Wario
Pretty good titles, if you ask me. They could have given us ten terrible games, but instead seem to have dropped a “greatest hits” GBA list. Nice work, Nintendo.
Are you in the Ambassador program? Was it worth the extra cash?

Conflicting stories creates confusion over the future of the STALKER developer.
Early this morning, news broke that STALKER developer GSC Game World had been suddenly shut down, with founder and CEO Sergei Grigorovich breaking the news to staff at a morning meeting. His decision was apparently due to his dissatisfaction with the progress of STALKER 2, though the sources on all of this information are a bit fuzzy – there are even reports pointing to some sort of police investigation.
The company quickly posted a message to its Twitter account stating that it wasn’t closing, but the message has since been deleted. In the meantime, some random guy who claims to have knowledge of the situation is confirming the shutdown, though he has also confirmed he’s not directly associated with the company. So, who knows?
In the meantime, it looks like the future of the STALKER franchise could be in serious doubt. If GSC shuts down, STALKER 2 may never see the light of day – a real bummer considering the game has been in development for over a year.
Have you heard anything new about the GSC drama? Let us know in the comments!

Ó

Four recently ousted Rare developers have joined forces to create Starfire Studios. And they’re promising to make a new Killer Instinct, right?! RIGHT?!
It would be a steep understatement to say that Rare was my favorite games developer in the late 90s. Donkey Kong Country was, and is to this day, one of my favorite games. I knew every Ultra Combo in Killer Instinct, and I even liked their generally maligned Starfox Adventures (deal with it). Of course, all good things must end, and Rare was snapped up by Microsoft in 2002.
Since then, it’s safe to say the quality of their games has gone somewhat downhill. They still continued to make good games, but unfortunately it just didn’t seem like the demand was there. As a result, Microsoft eventually had to lay off a significant portion of the studio. Now, four of those ex-developers are creating a brand new game company, called Starfire Studios.
Their only announced title at the moment is Fusion: Genesis, noted as a cross between a space shooter and an MMO. The game is headed directly to Xbox Live Arcade, and as a Rare devotee, I can assure you that I’ll be picking it up.
This seems to be an increasing trend in the world of video games – developers are leaving big name studios either of their own volition or as a result of some sort of company decision, and then starting a small-team studio to focus on downloadable titles or mobile games. The future of gaming will involve a lot more small studios, which in turn gives gamers tons more options. Sure, we’re painting this fall as the time of CoD, Skyrim and BF3, but there are going to be dozens of game releases during the same period of time.
Once Fusion: Genesis comes out, maybe Starfire can get to work on a spiritual successor to Killer Instinct. Maybe an open-world game set in the KI universe, starring Fulgore as a down-and-out robot?
What I’m saying is, someone please make another Killer Instinct game.

Unfortunately, no level cap increase will be happening for Uncharted 3, contrary to reports last week indicating such.
Naughty Dog Community Moderator EvangM clarified the misunderstanding in their offical forums, saying thus:
"There was some communication and a blog post was authored which mentioned that there would be an increase in the level cap along with new maps.
The new maps will still be deployed later today, but there will be no level cap increase during the Subway/ Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Experience. Sorry for the confusion, hope this clears things up."
That's too bad for those who had their hopes up for this. Nonetheless, this certainly doesn't make Uncharted 3 any less of a good game.
Anyway, Uncharted 3 is set to come out on November 1st, just literally a couple of weeks away, and should feature the PSN Pass. There's also a mini-TV drama series coming from Sony Japan.

Bioware’s Forums Crash After SWTOR Beta Email Mix-up
While rumors float around the web about the biggest MMO launch in video game history, Bioware’s email servers commit a small gaffe that turns into major problems for “Star Wars: The Old Republic.”
It’s the biggest MMO in recent memory, if not in the history of gaming. “Star Wars: The Old Republic” is reportedly the most expensive game ever made, and plenty of MMO fans and Star Wars lovers alike are itching to get in on the relatively limited beta. Yesterday, it looks like a fair few “SWTOR” fans were asked to rate their experience with the game in a survey sent from Bioware, with one small flub – many of the players that received the email were never actually invited to the beta in the first place.
As you may imagine, this sent quite a few of these players to the Bioware forums to seek out information on what was going on – thinking, perhaps they had received an invite to the beta but had lost it to a spam filter, or that the beta was opening wider and they were fortunate to be on the new list. The massive influx of curious, angry and occasionally heartbroken players did what all interweb influxes tend to do – smashed Bioware’s “Old Republic” forum servers directly into the ground.
Bioware has since issued a statement regarding the mix-up, which unfortunately doesn’t include the words, “We messed up, so here’s a beta invite because we’re so bummed about our mistake.”
You can read the full post on the “Old Republic” forums, but here’s the main statement:
“Earlier today, two e-mails were sent to members of the Star Wars: The Old Republic community. These e-mails were sent to a larger group than intended, and have caused some confusion in the community. We can confirm that these e-mails were from EA and BioWare and apologize for any confusion they have caused. Please note that receiving these e-mails does not affect your chances to be invited to test the game. Thank you all for your understanding!”
So, readers – what do you think about this error on the part of Bioware. Is it a minor error that an apology can cover, or do all of the let-down players that received emails deserve an official beta invite?
Personally, I’m of the opinion that if you made it this far without getting into the beta, you can make it a few more weeks.

You better be making good time with the Lonesome Road DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, because as soon as next week hits, you'll be getting yet another DLC from Bethesda.
This time, it's the Gun Runners' Arsenal pack, and to ease you into what's going to be up for you in it, they've put up some details on the said add-on, so you'd know what to expect.
It seems that there's going to be quite a lot for you here as they've so far posted only part 1 of their official update list. What we did get so far, though, are the following:
Mad Bomber (Perk) – Specialized training is now available for wastelanders with a talent for Repair and a love of Explosives.
Tin Grenade, Fat Mine – Two ends of the Mad Bomber spectrum, similar purposes: blowing things up.
Nuka-Grenade – This East Coast special has finally reached the shores of Lake Mead via some impressive and inventive Mad Bombers.
Optimized Small Energy Cell, Micro Fusion Cell, Electron Charge Pack, and
Flamer Fuel – Optimized Energy Weapon ammo: 30 percent more damage, superior armor penetration, and they even weigh less. The only drawback is a slight increase in weapon degradation. Requires Vigilant Recycler.
GRA Laser Pistol, Plasma Pistol – We’ve worked on some distribution deals for customizable low-end Energy Weapons. Don’t let the “low-end” designation fool you.
Cleansing Flame, MF Hyperbreeder Alpha – Two more one-of-a-kind (until we hear otherwise) Energy Weapons for clients who are interested in those things.
Sprtel-Wood 9700, The Smitty Special – We’ve got a line on two ultra-high-end unique models for our more well-to-do clients.
That's a lot of awesome weaponry, isn't it? I guess then that the US$ 3.99/ 320MS Points you'll have to shell out for it is definitely worth every buck. You can pick up the Gun Runners' Arsenal DLC on the PC, PS3, Steam and Xbox 360 come September 27th. For more of the details on the DLC, it's best you go to Bethesda's official site to see everything completely for yourself.

Unfortunately, Wii U will not be upscaling your games from the Wii. This was the confirmation gave by Nintendo's PR head, Mark Franklin.
The expectation was that if you pop in a Wii game into Wii U, the game will adjust itself to reflect the Wii U's graphical capabilities. After all, the original Wii was able to do this for GameCube discs.
That's not going to happen with the Wii U. There will be no upscaling, nor will there be texture filtering. What you got on the Wii is what you will get on the Wii U.

EA's decision to bring Kinect into the Mass Effect 3 gameplay probably got its loyal fans scratching their heads in confusion. As to why they did it, EA now gives an explanation.
Said EA boss Frank Gibeau, it was to "Grow the audience and make it more accessible."
"Mass Effect has a fairly complicated combat system. You've got story and choice. For some fans that don't buy 12 games a year and maybe buy two or three, some of those things can be intimidating. We wanted to open up the accessibility without hurting the depth or the quality. Kinect is a fantastic technology that allows us to do that."
The Kinect's voice recognition technology, for one, makes the game "that much easier to play", since it allows players to say out loud the dialogue to activate them, as well as speak directly to party members during combat.
Simply put, Kinect expands the market of Mass Effect 3, and this definitely is something that they would want.
"When you're in the business now you have to be able o get to the widest possible audience. Games are so expensive to build now that you can't have a sustainable business if you're in the million unit seller range. You've got to be multi-million units.
You have to think about not just the core gamers but the hit buyers and the more casual buyers; having a desing and a story and an interface that works across all of those segments without losing the core. It makes life interesting.
We think about it as the core and more. Not more, leave the core. That's a recipe for failure. You have to be smart about it. You can't dumb the game down. But at the same time you have to make it so a lot more people can play it than just the core gamers."
Mass Effect 3 is dated for a March 6, 2012 release. It was originally slated for a Holiday 2011 release, but has been since pushed back to adjust some of the gameplay mechanics.

PC fans surely had their hopes up when they saw that Street Fighter X Tekken was listed for the PC too. Unfortunately, it was just all a misunderstanding. More specifically, a typographical error.
The typo came up on the game's official forum, where Capcom's Community Manager listed the game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. He's now retracted thath statement, apologizing for the confusion that he might have caused, hopes he might have shattered.
"I can't say that it's happening and I won't say that it isn't happening... apologies for the confusion. It was listed on the FAQ sheet when it shouldn't have been there. I realize that's raising more questions than its answering but stay tuned."
You know what's worse than having your hopes snatched right from under your very nose? Having hope teased and dangled in your face without any certainty whether you'll ever get that sweet bite off it.
Come on, Capcom. Was it just a premature announcement, or was that really just an error that shouldn't have been made in the first place?
