American Nintendo President sees console for every demographic.

What about the Western Rabble Rouser console, how's that coming along?

Nintendo have had the family market cornered for years. Cornered and had a bright ribbon attached around it's neck which pulls so tight that money falls out of their pocket in droves, and whilst, other video game consoles have tired to put their bucket under their pockets, it seems that Nintendo's American President Reggie Fils-Aime, has plans to make sure the momentum keeps going when it comes to Nintendo's continued success.

Despite the postiing of a the company's first Japanese loss in over two decades, the American head says that with having four systems on the market, Wii, U, the DS and 3DS, isn't too bad and that they can have a share of the same market space for some time, as long as they appeal to the right markets. The right markets according to Fils-Aime, is the core gamers, lower-income homes and the classic, small children.

Of course, with Christmas coming up, all of those are taken care of on Nintendo's consoles, Fils-Aime says that Nintendo thinks the "DS is going to sell well" this holiday and that it's going to "appeal to a different consumer," adding that the christmas memory of buying the first console for your kid might be an idea this christmas.

Reggie talked with Time Magazine adding that the Wii has really gone for a core market but also trying to hit a lower income bracket with the Wii being less than $150 for the first time, this year. He notes that the console being $200 or even $250, may have been "out of their reach" but now it looks like it might be at the right price.

Regarding the Wii U and the 3DS, Reggie talked mainly about the core gamer audience and how the people who buy the "Wii hardware today" may be different from the people who buy the "Wii U in the future." He also noted he was aware the lack of pricing for the Wii U had been a concern for some people, but that you would be expecting different things from the Wii U and therefore would need different pricing.

That being said the Wii U would be a dedicated experience, but regarding this holiday season's spending, we already know that Microsoft slaughtered the competition over black friday and other than my girlfriend's family of non-gamers, I don't know anyone who doesn't own a Wii...Reggie might be hopeful but not stupid, I think it might be high-time for the Wii U to be rolled out and let Nintendo rest the Wii's flag for now.

It was a great console, some memorable games and experiences. Remember the first time you played Wii Sports with friends and family and how amazing it was, till someone said that the swinging in Tennis wasn't matching up...yeah good times.

The games company is banking on the teen heartthrob to encourage new 3DS sales.

Black Friday treated Nintendo well, and the Nintendo 3DS has officially out-performed the original DS in terms of first year sales. But Nintendo isn’t one to rest on its laurels, and has a full-on media blitz planned to carry its products through the holiday season. One part of this blitz apparently includes spending what must have been a huge pile of money to have the 3DS prominently featured in a Justin Bieber/Mariah Carey video, which you can watch below.

Fair warning – Bieber is auto-tuned into oblivion and the video is absolutely obnoxious, so you can skip to the incredibly obvious product placement at 1:58 if you don’t want to sit through this whole thing.

Bieber is a big factor for parents with young teens, especially of the female variety. I’m not sure whether seeing young Justin load up on Nintendo 3DSs will encourage his fans to buy a few for themselves, but Nintendo certainly seems to think it’s a gamble worth taking. I can’t imagine they earned such a prominent position in the video without a sizeable investment.

One thing’s for sure – putting Justin Bieber on the same track as someone that can actually sing wasn’t the best idea. I’m sure his fans won’t care, but hearing that auto-tuned robot voice next to Mariah Carey makes it all the more obvious that this kid’s days in the industry are numbered.

Oh, and shame on whoever made that for ruining one of the few Christmas songs I actually (and embarrassingly) like.

Microsoft Also Had a Good Week

The Xbox 360 was a hot Black Friday item, with sales eclipsing that of the Nintendo Wii.

We talked yesterday about Nintendo’s very good Thanksgiving week, in which they sold over 500,000 Nintendo Wiis. I noted that I was curious to see how Microsoft and Sony fared during the holiday, and now we have the answer to half of that question. Here’s the answer in short: Microsoft did very, very well.

The Xbox 360 sold 960,000 units last week, thanks in large part to a Black Friday surge. 800,000 of the sold units moved within the same 24-hour period, so it’s safe to assume that the shopping holiday had at least something to do with the large success. Microsoft also reported that they sold 750,000 Kinects, but that number includes Kinect devices bundled with a console.

And here’s where we begin to see the big differences between the consoles. The Wii dominated early on, but as the hardware ages and interesting titles dry up, consumers increasingly turn to PS3 and 360 due to their flexibility. If you have a Wii, you can play Wii games. The online and multimedia capabilities of both the PS3 and 360 make them better buys this late in the product cycle, since you’ll keep using them even after new consoles launch. Half the time, when I turn my 360 on, I don’t play games at all.

I love the Wii and am a confessed Nintendo fanboy, but you can’t argue with sales numbers and common sense. Congratulations to Microsoft on a massive week – now let’s get some of Sony’s numbers!

Nintendo Had a Good Week

The games company and console maker reports huge numbers from the Black Friday sales rush.

Nintendo hasn’t been doing so great as of late, but most people figured they’d see a pretty nice boost once the holiday season rolled around. Well, the holiday season is here, and so is the predicted Nintendo boost. The company boasted astonishing sales numbers for the Thanksgiving weekend, fueled by Black Friday sales and the recent releases of two very good games.

Nintendo is reporting that since the launch of both games, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has sold over 535,000 copies and Super Mario 3D Land has sold 500,000, both with big surges during the holiday week. The Wii also saw the best Black Friday numbers since its release, with buyers purchasing an astonishing 500,000 units. I’d love to see how Microsoft and Sony did – I’m sure they crushed as well.

Perhaps the most important data for Nintendo, however, is the increased sales of its 3DS handheld unit. Sales of the device tripled in the last week, going up by 325%. The 3DS has now officially sold more units than the original DS managed to snag in its first year of release. Whatever Nintendo needed to happen with the 3DS, it looks like it’s finally happening. The 3DS will likely continue to sell well, with Mario Kart 7 on the horizon.

We’ll just have to wait and see how Nintendo carries this momentum into the holiday season. The Wii has always been a big Christmas buy, and the 3DS is fresh enough to be on some holiday wish lists.

If you’re having trouble keeping up with the steady stream of fall releases, Black Friday may provide you with a nice opportunity for picking up anything you’ve missed.

Yosuke Saito is excited about Friday, and no, it's not necessarily because it's the start of the weekend.

NieR and Dragon Quest X producer took to his Twitter account to let off some of this excitement, saying, "Ooooo, I can't wait for this Friday." Unfortunately for him, that said post did not garner the expected reaction, forcing him to be a tad bit more specific as to the reasons for his excitement.

Posting another (this time, clearer) tweet, "There wasn't much of a reaction, so I'll try again. There will be a major notice on Friday? Probably."

That was definitely a better tease, making people sit up and notice that something is definitely cooking for this weekend. As to what this could be, of course it remains unknown, so we'll all just have to wait until Friday to find out.

Meanwhile, you should be glad to know that Rebecca Black is not invited to this soiree, whatever this may be.

This past month alone, we've been bombarded with major details about Dragon Quest X, such as the confirmation of the Wii U version, as well as the subscription fee.

Rumor: PlayStation 3DTV coming in November

Sony's just announced at E3 that they will be coming out with a PlayStation 3D TV, but the specualations as to its release just got hotter today as word spilled on the street that it's coming out in but a few months from now.

Retailer GameStop pegged the date of the said TV come November 26th, the day immediately following the classic Black Friday.

Features included, as listed on GameStop, are the following:

2 HDMI and 1 component HD inputs deliver HD media from your PS3 system, cable TV box, and PC

Full HD 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080)

Edge LED technology offers brilliant contrast and an ultra-slim design

240 Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth play

The PlayStation 3DTV was officially announced by Sony at their presentation last E3. It is also said to be coming in a bundle with the PS3-exclusive, Resistance 3, as well as PlayStation 3D glasses, and an HDMI cable.

GameStop's so far pegged the price at US$ 499, although this price point has yet to be confirmed by Sony.

First PSN credit card theft reported at US$ 12,500

It took Sony a week-long verification process before they could come clean to their PSN subscribers that the PS3's online service has been hacked, rendering their personal accounts, including credit card information, vulnerable. As the PSN hack enters day 10, we now get the first report of a major credit card hack to the cool, crippling tune of US$ 12,500.

GAF poster Progmetal posted on the said forums the following:

"I've just noticed a transaction on my Credit Card I use for PSN for the amount of US$ 12500.

Called as soon as I could and closed my card. Hmmm, sceptic..."

He furthered that the currency is actually in Norwegian Kroner, and that the transaction was Reserved, ultimately reducing his account to nothing. By Reserved, it means that the amount has been charged to the card. 74,750 Kroners is equivalent to US$ 12, 500.

Asked for proof, Progmetal also sent a screencap of the notification from his bank regarding his PSN-linked credit card account.
