Valve could be announcing Steam Box at GDC
What in the hell is Valve doing?
GDC is going on at the moment and I have a few friends checking it out, pitching games and showing off their work but with all the rumours flying around at the San Fran convention, I'd hate  to be a Valve employee right now.
The great big PC developer and probably one of the only game studios who I respect and will follow till they release Half Life 3 and with the idea of making a console, looks like I better start saving up.
Steam Box is the tentative title that everyone is dubbing it on the interwebs but i tlooks like Valve may throw their hat into the console ring and I think that the only way it will sell is if they make Half Life 3 exclusive to PC and their console...it will be the highest selling console ever.
The rumours were fueled that the company have been toying with the idea of creating a proper set-top console that could pose a threat to not only current-gen but next-gen consoles. Valve co-founder recently told the guys at Penny Arcade that if they had to sell hardware, they will. This could easily just have meant Valve branded graphics cards or just some cool memorabilia like keyboards, mice or even headphones but if they make Steam Box...the world of video games may change forever.
The story was broken over the weekend withG The VergeGFC

Want to dodge super-long queue times for Bioware’s massively popular MMO? Watch out for these crowded servers.
It’s not uncommon for a new MMO to suffer from long queue times and crushing server loads, and a game with the sheer hype force of Star Wars: The Old Republic is likely going to be subject to more than average stress. Thanks to the incredible influx of new players since the game’s launch on December 20, Bioware has had to open up new servers and is slowly increasing population caps on some of the ones they already had in place.
They’ve also released a list of servers that are currently packed to capacity. They’re not blocking character creation because they want people to have the opportunity to play with friends, but they’re strongly advising against joining the following servers:
• The Harbinger -- US West Coast - PvE
• The Swiftsure -- US West Coast - PvP
• The Fatman -- US East Coast - PvP
• Bloodworthy -- EU English - PvP
• Frostclaw -- EU English - PvE
• Legions of Lettow -- EU English - PvP
• The Red Eclipse -- EU English - PvE
• Tomb of Freedom Nadd -- EU English - PvP
• Darth Revan's Mask -- EU German - PvP
• Darth Traya -- EU German - PvP
• Jar'Kai Sword -- EU German - PvP
• Hrakert Rift -- EU French - PvP
You’re still free to join one, of course – you’d just better be prepared for a ridiculous queue time. Things will naturally slow down once the holiday break ends and everyone’s hit a more regular play schedule, but for now, it may be best to stick with a less-crowded server unless you have a specific reason to join a crowded one.
What is your opinion of the way Bioware has been handling the SWTOR launch?

Some box copies of SWTOR have a major issue when it comes to registration codes; namely, that they’re not in the box.
Registration codes are annoying, tedious fact of life when it comes to PC gaming. Nearly every game you buy off a store shelf or download through a digital distributor comes with some sort of multi-character, gibberish code that you must enter in order to prove you’re using a paid copy of the game. It’s an archaic way to do things, but it works well enough that publishers aren’t on the hunt for anything new.
The only problem with registration codes is that sometimes, they don’t work as expected. Recent purchasers of Bioware’s MMO epic Star Wars: The Old Republic are reporting two such issues. The first involves digital distribution codes, some of which are reportedly coming up as invalid. The second involves box copies of the game not containing a code at all, forcing players to go through (shudder) EA support.
This isn’t the first time EA has had problems with registration codes; earlier in the year, numerous players noted that the code included with their copy of Battlefield 3 was printed so crooked it ran off the card, making it unusable.
In the meantime, EA and Bioware are likely trying to get this worked out. The problems reported run the gamut – some Origin purchasers are even reporting that they receive no code, and the Origin system is telling them there’s no record of them ever purchasing the game.
Combine this problem with the long queue times experienced by a large part of the player base and Old Republic seems to be having a bit of a rough launch.
What do you think of missing registration codes? Are publishers allowed to make a mistake now and then, or is this completely unacceptable?

The online gaming behemoth earns a huge pile of cash from its initial stock offering, but its value is already sliding down.
Initial public stock offerings, or IPOs, are usually a good indicator of how valuable a certain company is. When the IPO goes well, it shows that investors have confidence in the company and in its future profitability. When it goes poorly, it indicates that the company has a long way to go before earning the trust of potential shareholders.
Nexon, the Korea-based online gaming company responsible for the enormously successful MapleStory and Mabinogi, made the jump to public stock earlier this week. The company, which claims 1.2 billion registered players, has a bright financial future and a demonstrated record of keeping players around for months at a time, leading to a massive $1.17 billion haul as investors rushed to pick up stock.
Nexon’s IPO ended up being the largest to hit the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2011, and thanks to this huge success, the company is now riding high with an estimated valuation of between $7.69 billion and $8.97 billion. Of course, it wasn’t all roses and champagne – Nexon’s stock dropped by around 4 percent on its first day of open trading.
Nexon is probably a strong buy for the short term, but freemium companies have yet to demonstrate they can stay competitive over longer periods of time. One need only look to Zynga for an example of that principle in action. Then again, Nexon’s entrenched user base and attention to its community certainly put it in a strong position.
Do you play any Nexon games?

As it turns out, BioShock Infinite gave quite the show at this year's E3. 2K Games and Irrational Games' multiplatform collaboration got a whopping 75 awards, with mainstream press E! Online dubbing it "simply gorgeous".
Among the awards it got were 39 "Game of Show" awards, and the top award that can be taken home from the event, The Game Critics Awards. Said Ken Levine, "At this year's E3, members of the Irrational team were honored to see the amazing games our industry friends and colleagues are producing. And we are thrilled that the gaming media selected BioShock Infinite as a standout title for the show."
BioShock is slated to come out for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next year. It's also been confirmed to include Move support. A PS Vita spin-off has also been confirmed. Needless to say, those 75 awards reaffirm what the devs have been saying all along: that it's so far in terrific shape.

biowareBioWare has worked on different flavors of games, but they made sure they implemented a strong RPG component to them. On one hand, you have the medieval adventure of Dragon Age, then on the other, you have a sci-fi third-person shooter in Mass Effect. Those are two different games, but they have very critical similarities in the role-play department. According to BioWare lead designer Mike Laidlaw, gamers are actually ready for more - they just don't know it yet.
