Bioware Struggling with SWTOR Queues

Surprise! Lots of people want to play Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the game’s developer is working around the clock to accommodate the sudden crush of new users.

According to the clock on my wall, Star Wars: The Old Republic still has about 12 hours before being officially released to the public. But early access and a few other interesting events have brought about a million players into the MMORPG’s digital world, and even though the game isn’t even on shelves yet, its servers are struggling to match demand.

As early access went online, there were 140 servers available on which to play. Now that queues on most have surpassed two hours during peak hours, Bioware is racing to add more capacity to the game before the massive wave of new players hits tomorrow. It’s not uncommon for new MMOs to be saddled with queue times – I remember waiting in line when I first started playing World of Warcraft – but there is certainly a point at which players will refuse to wait. Personally, I think anything over 30 minutes is enough to send players running.

Star Wars: The Old Republic stands to be one of the biggest launches of the year and one of the most impressively attended MMOs since WoW, so it’s up to Bioware to make that experience pleasurable for new players. If people are still on the fence about whether or not they’re going to move their guild to a new game, a two-hour queue certainly isn’t going to help sell SWTOR to them.

As noted, SWTOR already has a million players, and will likely see an increase of at least 500,000 in its first week of launch. EA and Bioware are hoping to land two million paying players in 2013, so hopefully they’ll be on the ball when it comes to balancing out the servers.

NYCC 2011: Capcom's line-up

This weekend, Capcom flies off to New York to participate in this year's New York Comic Con (NYCC) event.

If you happen to be in the area, you might as well drop by because the publisher not only has a truckload of goodies for you all, but also a bunch of special surprises.

For panel activities, they'll be having the following events:

Street Fighter - Yoshinori Ono talks updates on the upcoming fighting game. A Q&A session will follow straight up, to include some special surprises. Be there on Friday, October 14, at 5:15 - 6:15PM, at the American Airlines Theater, 1A06

Ultimate Marvels vs. Capcom 3 - Producer Ryota Niitsuma is set to take the stage, not only to give us some more details about it, but also to give us an exclusive behind-the-scenes look. Again, a Q&A will follow. Panel happens on Saturday, October 15th, 2:45PM - 3:45PM, at the American Airlines Theater, 1A06.

Resident Evil - Saturday at the NYCC is going to be a "Resident Evil Day", in celebration of its 15th anniversary. For this day, you are invited to come as your favorite RE character, whether classic or new. While donning your favorite character's costume, settle in andlisten to what producer Rey Jimenez has to say about the latest game iterations. Q&A session, too. Sunday, October 16th, 12:15PM - 1:15PM, American Airlines Theater, 1A06.

Wii U to get EA's support

Nintendo's making sure that there will be enough software to go around for the Wii U this time around. To do this, the company has been approaching third party companies.

We've had Bethesda already imply support for the console, as well as a Skyrim port, as well as rumors of Capcom bringing Asura's Wrath to it as well. The latest to get on board, though, is Electronic Arts.

Now, although subsidiary company EA DICE has previously stated that they are not interested in the as of yet, it appears that the mother company actually is.

Speaking to Reuters, Peter Moore was quoted as saying that they are, in fact, very much impressed with Nintendo's new console, and as such, will be committed to bringing their key franchises on board.

"There are no indications that there's anything that feels like it's off target," said Moore. "From our perspective right now, specs are a big deal. No one thinks it's going to replace an iPad 2 but it is playing into what a consumer feels comfortable with."

And then comes the expression of commitment for Nintendo's Wii U: "In the past, publishers have backed away from dedicating too much content to Nintendo platforms, since the Japanese company tended to use its consoles to push its own software titles. But make no mistake, EA is on board with the Wii U. Our teams are working on it around the world. Our key franchises will be there. We've made that commitment to Nintendo."

If that's the case, then it should be all good for Nintendo. It's about time they widen their avenues for software, so that more consumers will be enticed to get the Wii U. Not to say that their first party titles aren't good enough, but hey, diversity and variety is always good.

Capcom to bring Asura's Wrath to Wii U?

We just might be seeing CyberConnect 2's upcoming title head over to the Wii U, this according to Capcom over at their official community page.

Said company representatives on their latest "Ask Capcom" episode, they could very well do exactly just that, if the fans ask for it. All they would require of their loyal followers is to make as much noise for it, and if there's enough demand for it, then they just might adhere to your requests.

So far, Asura's Wrath is confirmed only for the PS3 and Xbox 360, set to come out sometime next year. It was first unveiled and announced at last year's TGS.
