Ó

Bethesda releases full patch notes for their latest Skyrim update, now in the certification testing.
It seems like it’s been forever since the launch of Skyrim, but millions of gamers are still spending their free time slaying dragons and “accidentally” murdering their followers. And, as is customary with Bethesda games, Skyrim still has a fair few issues interfering with players’ ability to fully enjoy the game.
The company is more than aware of Skyrim’s issues and has been working non-stop to get them fixed –especially the ever-present PS3 bug that makes the game nearly unplayable for some users. I’ll skip the analysis and go straight to the patch notes. If you’re a Skyrim fan, you’ll want to read through these:
NEW FEATURES
Skyrim launcher support for Steam Workshop (PC)
BUG FIXES
General optimizations for memory and performance
Fixed occasional issue with armour and clothing not displaying properly when placed on mannequins in player’s house.(PS3)
Improved compiler optimisation settings (PC)

In “Arniel’s Endeavor”, fixed issue where a quest journal would trigger multiple times
In “Forbidden Legend”, the amulet fragment can no longer disappear after player leaves a dungeon without taking it
Fixed rare issue in “Forbidden Legend” where killing Mikrul Gauldurson while sneaking would make his corpse unaccessible

“Blood’s Honor” will start properly if you visited and completed Driftshade and an extended period of time passes before starting the quest.
Fixed rare issue where “Dampened Spirits” would not start properly
Fixed issue where player would be unable to become Thane of Riften if they purchased a home first

That’s quite a few fixes for one patch – Bethesda hopes to have 1.4 submitted for certification early next week.

The Runescape developer just upped its roster by one Red Dead Developer.
Alex Horton is a former animator for gaming juggernaut Rockstar Games, with titles like Red Dead Revolver and Grand Theft Auto 3 under his belt. And now, he’s just been made the Chief Creative Director of Jagex. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, Jagex is the company behind one of the most successful F2P MMOs of all time, Runescape.
According to a press release issued by Jagex, Horton’s role will primarily be “working across the studios with our game design, development and creative teams to ensure all of our games achieve their true mass market potential.”
Jagex has been in the biz for years, and has just released into beta a “casual” strategy game titled 8Realms. Horton will no doubt be a strong presence in the company, with more than a few high profile AAA titles under his belt.
There’s no word on whether Horton will be involved with the newly created mobile wing of Jagex, but all indications are that he will be taking a prominent role within the company and overseeing several titles at once.

Assuming, of course, that you can’t afford to buy the game.
Here’s a good one straight from Twitter: Minecraft creator Mark ‘Notch’ Persson has gone on the record as supporting those who pirate his game – assuming they can’t scrounge the cash to purchase the game legitimately. Persson has supported piracy in the past, noting that he believes pirates to be future customers rather than a dangerous threat, but it’s nice to see him literally putting his money where his mouth is.
Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked for a free account due to his dire financial straits, Persson simply responded:
“Just pirate it. If you still like it when you can afford it in the future, buy it then. Also don't forget to feel bad. ;)”
Piracy is the current battle of the moment in the world of games, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to call Persson’s opinion counter to traditional wisdom. But one has to wonder whether he’s onto something.
Do you think pirates are future customers, or simply thieves trying to have fun on someone else’s dime?

We talked yesterday about the mass-suicide threat issued by 300 unhappy workers at the Foxconn plant in Wuhan, China. If you didn’t catch the article, here’s the basic breakdown: Foxconn oversees manufacturing for devices such as Xbox 360s and iPhones, and has been repeatedly in the news for poor wages and terrible working conditions. Earlier in the month, workers threatened to throw themselves off a building due to unfair working practices.
Now that news of this mass-protest is breaking into the mainstream press, Microsoft has issued an official statement regarding the matter. The statement is pretty boilerplate corporate dodging and discusses how Microsoft takes working conditions “seriously” and how the company launched an immediate “independent investigation” of the events in Wuhan.
According to Microsoft, the protests arose as the result of “staffing assignments and transfer policies” resulting from a “regular production adjustment.” However, Microsoft made no mention of the original issue cited by the workers – that they requested a raise and were told to either quit with compensation or continue at their current pay (and that the compensation was never paid to those who chose to leave).
Microsoft also had no explanation for why “regular production adjustments” would cause so much stress to Foxconn employees that they saw mass-suicide as their only option. Overall, it looks like your basic big company “we don’t know what happens in our factories” situation, with Microsoft either feigning ignorance or actually unaware of Foxconn working conditions. It’s hard to tell which is worse.
This story likely isn’t over, and we’ll do our best to bring you information as it breaks. In the meantime, you can read about some of Foxconn’s greatest hits here: Foxconn Plans Safety Nets After 12th Suicide

Yet another developer takes a stand against the controversial bill.
League of Legends developer Riot Games does not like SOPA. In fact, the company believes that the implementation of the bill would be catastrophic, and that the bill threatens free speech in addition to gaming communities. But Riot isn’t content to merely oppose the bill – the company wants your help.
Riot CEO Brandon Beck issued a lengthy statement on the game’s official website, detailing he and the company’s primary concerns with both the PIPA and SOPA bills. He listed just a few of the possible consequences of the bill, summarized here:
Death of livestreaming
Danger to the modding community
Threatens fansites and forums
Undermines existing legislation
Beck went on to provide a link to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, one of the primary organizations standing in opposition to SOPA. He also requested that fans of LoL contact their congressional representatives and let them know what they think of the bill. Overall, this is one of the most complete responses we’ve seen against SOPA, one that extends far beyond simply saying, “We don’t like it.”
You can read the full statement here: League of Legends Official Forums
If you want to take a stand against SOPA, you can use the EFF’s website to look up your representatives and send a letter to all of them at once. Here’s the link: Electronic Frontier Foundation

Faced with the loss of their CEO, GSC seeks funding to finish STALKER 2.
The GSC Game World saga continues to play out – what started with wayward tweets has evolved into a full-blown studio crisis. News has teetered back and forth between a complete closure of the studio and vague hopes for the future, but today marks the first time we’ve gotten any sort of detailed, concrete information from someone within the company.
Here’s the scoop: Posting on its Facebook account, the developer confirmed that STALKER 2 is still in progress, and development has not been suspended. Although there’s a glimmer of hope for fans of the series, one thing in the post stands out – in order for GSC to guarantee completion on STALKER 2, they’re going to need some financial backing.
From all accounts, the GSC team is working hard to finish STALKER 2, and they’re working even harder to secure the necessary funding to complete the game. While there’s still no guarantee that STALKER 2 will ever actually see a release, these statements do instill a bit of confidence in the developer’s intentions.
We’ll keep you posted as the story develops. For now, STALKER 2 appears to be moving forward, albeit delicately.
Do you think we’ll ever see this game on shelves?

It’s that time again, everyone! Let’s see what games are looting your wallet next week.
Another week, another slate of game releases. As with last week, there’s not that much going on - we likely have a couple of weeks of slow releases before we start to see major AAA titles dropping again. Bu that’s okay, because we’re going to need all that extra time to wrap up the dozen or so great games that launched over the course of the last couple of months.
As is now the custom, here’s this week’s edition of:
AMY
Xbox 360, PC, PS3
ESRB Mature
Lexis Numerique
Gears of War 3: Fenix Rising Map Pack
Xbox 360
ESRB Mature
Epic Games
Dustforce
PC
ESRB Pending
Hitbox
Order Up!! 3DS
3DS
ESRB Everyone
Ignition Entertainment
Saints Row the Third: Genki Bowl VII
PS3, Xbox 360, PC
ESRB Mature
Volition
Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors
PC, Wii
ESRB Everyone
Alpine Studios
While the highest profile content is DLC for Saints Row and Gears of War, Dustforce looks primed to be one of those runaway indie hits. As with most entertainment products, we’re going to have to sit through the relative doldrums of January before things get interesting again.

Now, we have a confirmed and official list of every game that will be available at launch. And the list is pretty long, especially when compared to some other launches.

Here’s your launch list:
SCEA Launch Day Titles

Looking for a cheap last-minute gift or a game to play while you ignore your family? Pick up Limbo!
Limbo has won a zillion awards and was easily one of the biggest XBLA games of 2010. Since its initial success, PlayDead has done everything they can to expand their stranglehold on the indie market, releasing the game on every system to which they can get access.
Limbo is your basic platformer, where your primary goal is to run from one end of a level to another without being killed. But the vague nature of your location and purpose help to create an intriguing experience, not to mention the monochrome visuals and eerie environment. Limbo is one of the most successful games ever released on XBLA, selling over four million copies to date.
Since its initial release, Limbo has been brought to PC and PS3 – it managed to sell more copies than any other PSN game in 2011. As for the iTunes Store, Limbo is priced at a mere £6.99 – more than worth the cost considering the escape it can potentially provide you during this upcoming holiday crush.
Limbo is set for release on Steam in January, officially putting it on almost every popular distribution platform. It’s nice to see an indie developer do so well.
Have you played Limbo? Would you consider picking it up on your iOS device?

The Man of Steel is looking to make a comeback, with a new movie in the works and a classic return to form headed to the iPad and iPhone.
While the success of the Marvel movie franchise is hard to overlook, DC Comics has had a much more mixed experience at the box office. The Batman series is trucking along as a hallmark of superhero filmmaking, but the remainder of the DC properties just haven’t seemed to catch on with viewers.
DC is looking to change all of this with the upcoming Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.” Taking a page from the Dark Knight/Captain America playbook, the film will be gritty and rooted more in reality that previous Superman adventures. Superman will also be making a new appearance on you iOS device, though the game doesn’t seem to be based at all on the new film.
Superman: iPad (the name I’ve just given it) is being developed by Chillingo and Tiger Games, and looks as though it’s taking its cues directly from the Superman comics of old. Bright colors and familiar villains are on display here, with players suiting up in the familiar blue tights and using Superman’s many powers to protect the city of Metropolis.
You’ll earn medals for your performance in each level, generating a bit of replay value for perfectionists and Superman fans alike. Beyond that, the rest of the game is essentially a mystery. Superman titles in general have a legacy of failure, especially the much-maligned Superman 64. Here’s hoping Superman: iPad can escape those previous mistakes and create something memorable and fun.
Do you think this new Superman game is the Man of Steel’s chance to shine, or is it going to be a disaster?

If the first Warhammer MMO wasn’t enough to get you off the brand for good, then you’ll be excited to learn that another is coming your way.
Warhammer is one of those franchises that has captured the hearts and minds of passionate gamers, but somehow manages to escape the primary populace. While you’ll find devoted fans within the gaming community, it’s hard to meet a non-geek that has some experience. This was likely one of the major causes for the downfall of the last Warhammer MMO – why try something new when you already know about World of Warcraft?
THQ is banking on the legacy of the Warhammer 40K series to bring new gamers into the fold with a brand new MMO, but don’t expect to see it any time soon. The official date, as of right now, is 3/13/13, or March of 2013. That’s over a year and a half from now, so you probably don’t need to worry about a pre-order for at least a couple of months.
Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online details are still relatively scant, but THQ has posted this brief description of what sort of story players will be facing in spring of 2013:
“On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.
But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices—and now, the battle for these lost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality—or to tear it asunder.
Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter.”
Is anyone excited to see another Warhammer MMO, or did your experiences with the last one sour you on the franchise?

A new version of PacoChan's DS homebrew game inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Without Escape, has been sent out.
Upping the latest version to 1.4, this release finally finishes completing the French language in it, as well as adding some corrections to the English translation.
In case you haven't tried this out yet, it should be worth a try. As a point and click horror adventure brew, Without Escape puts you in a house where you wake up to strange noises. Upon investigation, it only brings about more mystery. To help you along the way, items are around to be picked up and collected. These should guide you to where you should head off to next.
Apart from the newly-added French version, the game is also available in English and Spanish. Get more updates on PacoChan's brews, as well as on other entertaining homebrews over at our official DL site, DL.QJ.NET.
