The Minecraft developer shows no signs of slowing down.
Mojang, the company known far and wide as the developer of Minecraft, has long been forthright about their intentions to continue making interesting and successful games. They’ve been working on Scrolls for some time, and recently pushed the Alpha version of Cobalt live. However, it appears that the folks at Mojang are very busy bees indeed, and have another three games in the works.
In an interview with Edge, Mojang CEO Carl Manneh noted that all three games are scheduled for release sometime this year. While Manneh was light on the details, he did confirm that one of the new games is coming directly from Minecraft’s original creator, Mark Persson. Additionally, at least one of the new titles will see launch sometime in the first half of 2012.
Look for an official announcement sometime soon, as Manneh said that two of the games would likely be far enough along the development track for an early 2012 reveal.
Are you excited to see what’s coming out of Mojang next?

Half Life 3 rumours persist with new websites slipping online
Half Life 3 is coming...but probably not - just the end of the world.
Half Life 3 has been teased about for over half a decade and as HL2 reaches it's eighth anniversary, the game's creators are slowly starting to play with their audience.
Whilst the secret Alpha codes in the Wheatley VGA video were debunked as a hoax according to Valve's Mark Ladlaw, and the logo-shirted Valve employee were just something the guy had "lying around," two websites have popped up in the last week that may or may not be linked to the game.
One in particular Black Aperture boasted a big HL3 logo with the official logos of the working companies, Steam, valve, Source floating beneath it.
black-aperture.com was not registered to Valve, but to some guy named David, however, it could just be apart of the ARG Valve is playing, however a recent podcast with Gabe Newell hinted that the games have begun to slowly start to release the threads for Half Life 3 fans to unravel...

The company aims its first entry in the world of games publishing at the end of the week, but can they make it?
Up until this week, Mojang’s only claim to fame is Minecraft. Of course, Minecraft is an enormous claim to fame, with a successful PC release, a ridiculous beta period and a perfectly okay mobile adaptation. Which is why when the studio announced it would be branching out into games publishing, most people were excited to see what they’d come up with.
Their first publishing title, known as Cobalt, is a side-scrolling action game set for release sometime in the next few months. But, as with Minecraft, Mojang intends to release the game in both alpha and beta phases, allowing gamers to play it and offer feedback that will hopefully turn it into another home run. It’s a unique design philosophy – one that worked out big time with Minecraft.
Mojang went on the record as hoping to drop the alpha version of Cobalt by Friday, but there are a few things holding them back. They need to touch up a few final in-game details, and they have to sort out the Mojang login system, which will allow you to access Minecraft, Cobalt and the company’s future game, Scrolls (Skyrim 2, right?).
If the studio can get everything together in time, you’ll be able to access the Oxeye-helmed Cobalt sometime on Friday. You can purchase the game in alpha state and, as with Minecraft, receive every future update free.
Keep an eye out for Cobalt, and we’ll keep you updated if anything major happens with the release. In the meantime, what do you think of the alpha/beta release strategy?

Oxeye’s side-scrolling action game will follow the same pre-release schedule as Minecraft, according to the publisher.
The publishing model for Minecraft doesn’t make sense at first glance: release an unfinished alpha game for free, upgrade it little by little and slowly make it cost money. It’s definitely not the traditional way to release a game, but Minecraft’s 4,000,000+ sales indicate that Mojang seems to have found what works for them.
They’re going to test this launch theory again with their next big release, Cobalt.
Cobalt is in development at Oxeye Game Studios and was only recently announced. The game will be published with Mojang, and is not to be confused with Mojang’s next title, Scrolls. Like Minecraft, the game will be release in an early alpha stage – players that elect to pick the game up at this time will receive all future updates for free.
There are rumors that a level editor will be included with the alpha version, as well as a method for customizing your character. If those features aren’t in the alpha, they’ll probably turn up in the beta.
Cobalt marks Mojang’s first attempt to publish someone else’s game, though Oxeye has noted that the process is much more of a team effort than the traditional relationship between publishers and developers. We’ll just have to see how it plays out in practice.
Do you think Mojang can continue to strike gold, or was Minecraft a lucky break?

Master Chief’s hotly anticipated return is getting a minor graphical overhaul courtesy of 343 Industries. But how much change is too much?
Halo 4 is looking like it’s going to be one of the biggest releases of 2012, if not in terms of sales then definitely in terms of hype. It’s a big moment for the still-unproven 343 Industries, whose only contribution to the world of games so far is a pretty lame Xbox 360 Dashboard app. Details on what exactly we can expect in Halo 4 are slim; mostly we’re getting the basic developer line of “amazing action sequences” and “incredible set pieces” we get every time a top title returns.
Game Informer recently snagged Kiki Wolfkill (rad name) from 343 Industries and while she didn’t get specific about in-game plot events or the return of fan favorite characters, she was able to shed just a little bit of light on what sort of graphics experience is planned for this new reboot of the Halo franchise:
“It’s different from Anniversary. This is an engine based on some of the past Halo tech for sure. But it’s also something this team has been working on to sort of optimize it for what we’re doing. It’s a completely internal piece of technology, but it is based on a lot of the Halo foundational tech.”
While it’s nice to know that Halo 4 will receive a much bigger visual upgrade than what we’ve seen in the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, it’s a little troubling to find out that the development team is using words like “optimized” and “past Halo tech.” I’m sure 343 feels the pressure of the community and is working hard to make Halo 4 the best game they can, but messing with the old engine and applying a few minor upgrades isn’t going to be enough to really bring the game into the next generation.
Some sneaky gamers have managed to pull a bit of Halo 4 alpha footage and post it to the web, and for the most part, it looks like Halo 3. Hopefully that’s just a rough cut.
Are you confident that 343 can handle Halo 4, or are you concerned with their lack of experience?

With the actual game release coming up fast, Notch and Mojang have officially stopped any work on new features for Minecraft.
Minecraft is such a strange title. Created by one guy with some spare time, the game has become an incredible success. What many gamers often forget, however, is that Minecraft has never been officially released – it’s been in some form of beta ever since its initial launch.
Mojang has been pushing for a November release of the title, and in the meantime has been adding features, fixing bugs and incorporating player feedback into the game and its mechanics. As of today, they’ve officially announced that there will be no new features developed until after release, with development time instead shifting to focus on making sure everything they already have functions as well as possible.
From Notch’s blog:
“The adventure update is going great! We’re adding features and cramming in content, and then started feature creeping and content creeping. What we’ve got on our hands now is somewhere in between a finished Adventure Mode update and a version of the game we’d be proud to call just ‘Minecraft’. Not ‘Minecraft Beta’ or ‘Minecraft Alpha’, but just plain and simple ‘Minecraft’.”
As of today, Mojang has one month on the dot to get Minecraft up to speed. The official full launch of the game is scheduled for November 18th, live on stage at the Las Vegas MineCon.
How a game that hasn’t even been officially released already has its own convention is beyond me, but look to MineCon for any special announcements regarding the resumption of feature work.
You may even get a  preview of Mojang’s next game, Scrolls, which so far has been allowed to keep its name despite a very stupid lawsuit from Bethesda (sort of).
Are you excited about the final MineCraft release, or would you like to see a few more software updates before they  stop development altogether?

Fan-developed My Little Ponies fighting game straddles the line between very cute and very, very unsettling.
My Little Ponies is generally considered one of the most overly cute franchises on earth. The entire point of the toys was to overwhelm children with their cuteness, who would in turn overwhelm their parents with demands that the toys be taken home. Essentially, the product sold based on cuteness alone. Now indie developer Mane6 is taking the Ponies crew somewhere they’ve never been – brutal fights to the death.
MLP: Fighting is Magic actually looks pretty smooth, and though it is a fighting title it doesn’t come off as overly violent. I would wager it’s about as cute as two ponies fighting could be, and it’s only in alpha right now. Who knows how much cuteness Mane6 can pack into the title before its release to the public and subsequent shutdown for copyright infringement?
The video clip also doesn’t indicate whether we can expect to see pony-theme finishing moves, such as knocking someone out with a rainbow or hugging someone until they fall gently asleep. I doubt there will be any gory violence, as the game seems dedicated to keeping things as cuddly as possible. In fact, it’s nice to see an indie developer that isn’t making a play to the Mortal Kombat crowd by turning this generally friendly franchise into an overly stylized bloodbath.
So far, MLP: Fighting is Magic has been confirmed as having both online and single-player modes. Mane6 is playing the rest of the details fairly close to the chest.
If you want to participate in the making of the game, Mane6 is currently looking for voice actors. You can check out the details right here.
Are you interested in a My Little Pony fighter, or are you too cool for a little cute?

We broke news early in the week about Nightwing being included as a playable character. Now you can get a sneak peek of what he actually looks like in-game.
A few days ago, an updated trophy list for “Batman: Arkham City” revealed that Nightwing would be available as a playable character. If you’re curious to find out what the original Robin looks like in the game, your wait is over, as we’ve located a few in-game shots of the character model. Nothing fancy and no gameplay footage, but enough to get an idea of what the character might look like in action.
The screenshots are apparently marked as alpha tests, meaning they’re not final and the look could dramatically improve before the release of whatever content pack actually unlocks Nightwing for play.
“Arkham City” is set for release on October 18th, and has already earned a 10 out of 10 score in a preliminary review. Players can take the role of either Catwoman or Batman as they work to stop yet a nefarious plot set into motion by the Two-Face. The game is noted as being somewhat darker in tone when compared to the original, with Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman) comparing the villains to what we saw in the animated “Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.”
As noted, Nightwing will not be available in the basic game and will instead come as part of a downloadable content pack. If you want to play as Nightwing in “Arkham City,” you’re probably still a couple of months away from having access to the character and the trophies he unlocks.
Is everyone excited about “Arkham City?” What do you think is more interesting – playing as Batman and smashing up bad guys, or experiencing new game elements as Robin, Catwoman and Nightwing?

Phantasy Star Online 2 was originally set to be up and running within this year, but unfortunately, that's not going to be the case any more.
As it turns out, Sega has decided to push the release of the PC title to a yet undecided 2012 date. Explained game producer Satoshi Sakai, the decision was based on the feedback they garnered from the alpha test recently conducted.
As per the observations of the alphat test participants, there are still a lot of things for them to work on before they can give their seal of approval for the game's retail release.
Most likely, I am guessing that Phantasy Star Online 2 won't be out till about mid or late 2012, considering that the next alpha test will only be happening early next year. If you did participate in the first one, then you'll get first dibs to the second alpha. If not, however, don't despair. You can still apply and register to join in the next batch.

Player feedback leads Sega to extend development on one of the most anticipated and long-developing games in recent memory – the sequel to the ahead-of-its-time “Phantasy Star Online.”
If you owned a Dreamcast but you didn’t play “Phantasy Star Online,” you missed out on the future of online console gaming. Of course, gaming eventually caught up with “Final Fantasy XI,” Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, but for one brief period in the year 2000, “Phantasy Star Online” showed us what it could be like to play console games online. For the most part, I would categorize the experience as “majestically frustrating.”
The game has seen a variety of updates and half-sequels in the years since its release, but only recently were plans for a full-on follow-up announced to the gaming public. Unfortunately, it looks like fans of the franchis will have to wait a little bit longer, as Sega has just confirmed that “Phantasy Star Online 2” has been pushed into a 2012 release.
According to a quote over at Silocon Era, Producer Satoshi Sakai indicates the game delay is a result of feedback gathered during the game’s early alpha period. Sega is looking to fix or improve upon many of the features that concerned or didn’t jive with testers, and has opted to sacrifice a quick release in the hopes of dropping a more polished game.
A second alpha test will likely begin in the early months of 2012, with the development cycle moving forward based on the results of that test.
Unfortunately for North American gamers, “Phantasy Star Online 2” is still set to be released as a Japanese exclusive – you’d better fire up your import discs and brush up on your Japanese if you’re looking forward to playing the game.
As for me, I sometimes miss the old days, when online gaming felt more like a secret club than a DLC delivery tube. How about you?

You better be making good time with the Lonesome Road DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, because as soon as next week hits, you'll be getting yet another DLC from Bethesda.
This time, it's the Gun Runners' Arsenal pack, and to ease you into what's going to be up for you in it, they've put up some details on the said add-on, so you'd know what to expect.
It seems that there's going to be quite a lot for you here as they've so far posted only part 1 of their official update list. What we did get so far, though, are the following:
Mad Bomber (Perk) – Specialized training is now available for wastelanders with a talent for Repair and a love of Explosives.
Tin Grenade, Fat Mine – Two ends of the Mad Bomber spectrum, similar purposes: blowing things up.
Nuka-Grenade – This East Coast special has finally reached the shores of Lake Mead via some impressive and inventive Mad Bombers.
Optimized Small Energy Cell, Micro Fusion Cell, Electron Charge Pack, and
Flamer Fuel – Optimized Energy Weapon ammo: 30 percent more damage, superior armor penetration, and they even weigh less. The only drawback is a slight increase in weapon degradation. Requires Vigilant Recycler.
GRA Laser Pistol, Plasma Pistol – We’ve worked on some distribution deals for customizable low-end Energy Weapons. Don’t let the “low-end” designation fool you.
Cleansing Flame, MF Hyperbreeder Alpha – Two more one-of-a-kind (until we hear otherwise) Energy Weapons for clients who are interested in those things.
Sprtel-Wood 9700, The Smitty Special – We’ve got a line on two ultra-high-end unique models for our more well-to-do clients.
That's a lot of awesome weaponry, isn't it? I guess then that the US$ 3.99/ 320MS Points you'll have to shell out for it is definitely worth every buck. You can pick up the Gun Runners' Arsenal DLC on the PC, PS3, Steam and Xbox 360 come September 27th. For more of the details on the DLC, it's best you go to Bethesda's official site to see everything completely for yourself.

A new version of DSTELNET was released by developer ILOVEPIE, upping it to v2.0.
This brewed application for the DS basically lets you connect to Telnet servers straight from your DS. Now, in case you're not entirely too sure what a Telnet is, it's a user command and a TCP/IP protocol used to access remote computers. This, therefore, gives access to another person (administrator or otherwise) to someone else's computer remotely.
To be more blunt about it, if you have to ask what a Telnet is, then most probably you don't need this app.
Nonetheless, ILOVEPIE has got some developments for us, and he does note that "unlike the first alpha you can now go wherever you like and by reckoning it is the first standalone telnet client for the DS (previously your only option was DSlinux)."
Do note, though, that the devs have yet to check it out "against any our favourite MUDs yet but it does seem to have issues with wireless security and non standard ports." Hey, it's just in the alpha stage, anyway, so really, there shouldn't be any rush, right?
As for the change in this version:
make a text file at:
/DSTELNET/config.cfg
with the URL or IP of the telnet server you wish to connect to…
