Next Portal 2 Patch to Include In-Game Level Editor

Valve continues their legacy of awesome and free downloadable content by giving Portal fans a way to make their own levels right in the game engine.

The Portal 2 authoring tools have been available for some time, but if you’re like me you probably downloaded them, installed them, fired them up and then immediately shut them off once you realized how overwhelming it would actually be to build a level in the editor. I’ve always loved Halo’s Forge mode, but the authoring tools for Team Fortress and Portal have remained a little out of my league.

It looks like Valve is hoping to change all that, recently announcing that their next bit of downloadable Portal 2 content would include an in-game editor. Valve also indicated that you’ll be able to design levels for both single player and co-op, opening up the depth of design pretty far for amateur level builders. The thought of building a co-op Portal level is absolutely insane to me, but perhaps there are some passionate gamers out the

If you’re not into creating your own levels but still want to get some new challenges for your Portal gun, you’ll be able to play any levels created by users, as well as vote on them based on how much you enjoyed your experience. With a robust player community, this is sure to lengthen the shelf life of the Portal series dramatically – as long as there are new puzzles to solve, you’ll always have something to look forward to.

Binary Domain set for consoles

Sega has confirmed that their third-person shooter, Binary Domain, will be aiming straight for your hearts and your consoles come early next year.

The date set for the PS3 and Xbox 360 launch is pegged on February 14th for North America, while Europe gets it a few days later, February 17th.

Said Binary Domain creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, "When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold clinical environments, but wit Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama.

The keyword we have in mind for this project is 'Life'. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp."

Japan rates Atelier Memeru anew

Japan's rating board, CERO, is having second thoughts about Atelier Memeru's rating. Originally, it was given an A rating, which makes it suitable for players of all age.

Now, though, the board has decided to revise their original decision, and has instead put the rating to a B. The need for the revision of the rating came to light when CERO realized that Gust's ratings documents were incomplete, with certain imagery taken out from the papers.

In light of this incomplete disclosure, CERO decided to have further shipments of the game halted, at least until they settle the issue of re-evaluation.

With the new B rating in place, Atelier Memeru effectively becomes suitable for ages 12 and up. Fans will be glad to know, though, that CERO did not require any changes in the game itself, although they did add the "sexual" content descriptor on the game cover.

Atelier Memeru comes out exclusively for the PS3. Check out this trailer for the game as well to have an idea how it's faring so far.

Comic Con 2011: Dates confirmed for Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica HD

Now you can mark those dates on your calendar. Capcom has announced at the Comic Con wen exactly Resident Evil 4 and RE: Code Veronica HD are dropping on the PSN and XBL.

Fans of Resident Evil 4 HD will be getting their sweet fix earlier on September 20th, while Code Veronica HD fans will get theirs a week later, on September 27th.

Both games have been guaranteed to sport not only improved visuals, but achievements and trophies as well. Capcom wasn't all too ready to reveal pricing details yet, but they did reassure that they are looking at "budget pricing" for it.

Resident Evil HD also had its achievements released, boasting of some 1000 Gamerscores.

Now you can mark those dates on your calendar.

Video: New Sonic Generations 20th Anniversary trailer

After much teasing, Sega's finally decided to come out with a new trailer for Sonic Generation 20th Anniversary.

Not much have been heard about this game, well, except for the numerous explanations as to why it's not coming out on the Wii.

That would certainly be most odd, considering that Nintendo's is the closest and most familiar console for one would think of when thinking of the blue hedgehog.

Nonetheless, they've got a lot more time to continue justifying its absence on the Wii, including how the console does not have enough hardware power, before the game comes out for the 3DS, PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year. In the meantime, you can check out and enjoy the the new trailer right here.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comes in disc form only

So a lot of people weren't all too impressed when Capcom announced the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Unfortunately, this news item here doesn't make it much better, particularly because it's about how it's coming out only in disc-form.

Yep, no upgrading for all you hoping to just do away with the extra cost of buying another copy. Most fans would have wanted to just get it in DLC form, but Capcom is having none of that.

Said producer Ryota Niitsuma, "Right now, we're only thinking about releasing a disc version." He furthered, "Given the development schedule, there wasn't enough time to work out all of the details to release it as downloadable content, as well. Also, for the reason you mentioned, there is so much data in the game it was easier to go this route."

So how much are you going to have to shell out if you want this improved version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3? US$ 39.99 at retail. As most of our readers have pointed out, that was one heck of an expensive beta release you pulled back there, Capcom.

Yep, no upgrading for all you hoping to just do away with the extra cost of buying another copy.

Child of Eden gets priced, discounted for Europe

After getting a new release window, Child of Eden now gets pricing details for its PS3 debut in Europe.

It seems like the delay will do PS3 fans a whole lot of good as it's reportedly coming out with half the price as that of the Xbox 360 version when it came out earlier this month.

Reportedly, it will cost a cool UK £19.99 at retail. If you want to get it for cheaper, you can head over to Amazon or Play, as they've already put it on discount, at UK £14.99.

Child of Eden PS3 comes out on September 23.

WWE 12 first roster to be revealed in August

One more thing to look forward to this August is the upcoming reveal of the first roster for WWE 12. This was revealed by THQ's Corey Ledesma on Twitter, when asked by a fan.

So far, the confirmed Superstars for WWE 12 are The Miz, Alberto del Rio, John Cena and Randy Orton, who is also the face on the game's cover.

Corey said in reply to a fan's query regarding the possibility of any more news regarding the game's roster, "Roster reveal will be sometime in August. I can't answer any roster related questions until then. Hang in there."

WWE 12's debut trailer was released earlier this month, after the controversial name change that the game had. It's slated to come out on November for the platforms Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.

SSX: Deadly Descents avalances are to die for

If there's one thing you should be on the keen lookout for in the upcoming SSX title from EA Canada, it should be the avalanches.

Divulged producer Todd Batty in the latest OXM issue, "Our original thought for avalances was to create a big, awesome, scripted experience: player drops onto a certain mountain, player rides through invisible trigger volume and the game spawns an avalanche in a place where if the player takes the correct path or rides fast enough he narrowly escapes disaster."

However, they opted to ditch that kind of scripted adventure, and instead gunned for a more dynamic "snow system".

"With this type of scripted experience we can trigger different cameras and really pay off the big cinematic manner, and I'm certain it would have been very cool," he said. "The problem here is that this sort of design is not scalable, and there is very little replayability for the player.

It takes a tremendous amount of effort to create a single 'moment' that the player then experiences only once, on a single level. So, we instead opted to create a new snow 'system' whereby ona ny level in the game, every time the player carves a turn in deep enough snow, we are spawning a volume of physics particles proportional to the force that the rider is exerting on the terrain."

That does sound more complicated, doesn't it? SSX: Deadly Descents launched its first dev diary back in April, which should provide for a closer look at how the folks from EA Canada wove this magical, snowy treat. Also in the same month, they sent out the first ever gameplay trailer for the game, which should get fans all excited.

Far Cry 3 development started immediately after FC2

Here's a bit of a cool trivia for all you Far Cry fans out there. Did you know that the third installment of the series, Far Cry 2, has been in development since way back 2008?

This was the revelation made by lead narrative designer Jason Vandernbergh. In fact, "four or five years, we started right after Far Cry 2 shipped." Okay, that's just some three years ago, so just pardon him for the miscalculation.

Anyway, he also talked a little bit about the hang gliders, although he kept it to a bare minimum. "We can't tell you about that, but it is a marquee feature. One of the things we heard from fans on Far Cry 2 was it was hard to get around, so we're looking at new ways to fix that."

Far Cry 3's first started being rumored to being in development as early as 2009. It was only at this year's E3 that it was officially announced by Ubisoft.

Under Siege goes live on PSN

Seed Studios happily announced at their "little big game", Under Siege, is now available on the PSN.

The "action and strategy game in real time, where a small group of heroes fight against a huge invading army" features support for the DualShock 3 and the PS Move controllers.

The game also gives you a choice among six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. That way, there should be no language barrier whichever you may prefer, for you to fully enjoy the gameplay modes they have packed in for you - full campaign, two-player multiplayer online, and local play.

One of the highlights of the game is the Editor function that Seed Studios have added in for you:

Sculpting and painting the

Adding water to create rivers and lakes

Changing lighting intensity, colour, position and other effects

Placing and rotating props like trees, houses, walls and more

Placing units and determine their AI, line of sight, colour and team

Creating cutscenes with your own lines of text and many different characters

Above all, creating your own logic with a simple trigger system that allows for the creation of new types of levels, modes and even totally different gameplay.

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise debuts this week for PS3

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise is now definitely heroes on the PlayStatoin 3. The game, previously a Wii original, has been on the PlayStation deck for quite a while, but it's only now that we're getting anything definitive for it.

How did we know? Well, Konami did launch this gameplay trailer, after all, so that's a pretty easy thing to surmise. In fact, they've also confirmed that the game will be coming out this week.

The PS Move-enabled No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise is expected to come out in Australia this Thursday, May 19th, while UK will get it on Friday, May 20th.

CoD: Black Ops Escalation Map Pack goes live on XBL

It's finally here. The much-awaited second DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops, Escalation Map Pack, is officially out.

You can now avail of the latest Map Pack from Treyarch and Activision through the Xbox Live Marketplace. Escalation adds in four new multiplayer maps, and one that should give you more thrills with the zombies.

PS3 and PC gamers will have to wait it out a bit longer before they get hold of the Escalation Map Pack, but rest assured that it will indeed be coming your way, too.

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan Xbox 360 delayed

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan was supposed to come in this April for the Xbox 360, but unfortunately, it's now been pushed a long way back.

According to several online retailers such as Amazon, the game has now been moved back to September 30, 2011. They did not, however, divulge the cause of the delay.

Heavy Fighter: Afghanistan will have 24 missions, as well as co-op and competitive multiplayer for up to four players. The game will also be supporting online leaderboards, as well as include exclusive levels and weapons for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan is available out for the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Shadows of the Damned ESRB rating explained

Shadows of the Damned got an M rating from the ESRB, and while it did not exaclty come as a surprise, it would still be nice to know what ESRB thought of it.

So said the ratings board:

"This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of Garcia Hotspur, a demon hunter who must retrieve his kidnapped girlfriend from Hell. Players use a former demon that can transform into various weapons (e.g., pistols, torches, shotguns, machine guns) to kill demonic creatures in underworld cities. Combat is highlighted by loud cries of pain, realistic gunfire, and large explosions.

The violence is often accompanied by blood effects: large blood splashes occur when enemies are hit, and some demons explode into bloody gibs when killed; cutscenes also depict the decapitation of boss creatures, resulting in fountain-like sprays of blood. In one level, players can view a handful of strip club–themed billboards (e.g., ‘Strippers,’ ‘Sex Parade’).

In another sequence, a giant female character gyrates while cupping her exposed breasts; moaning sounds can be heard in the background. The words ‘f**k,’ ‘sh*t,’ and ‘d*ck’ can be heard in the dialogue.

No wonder it got what it got. Shadows of the Damned comes out for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, thanks to Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture.

Shadows of the Damned got an M rating from the ESRB, and while it did not exaclty come as a surprise, it would still be nice to know what the ratings board board thought of it.

Warhawk 2 details outed?

We don't know for sure yet if Warhawk 2 is indeed on deck from SCEA, but Saudi Arabian website NG4A says so.

Is the sequel of Warhawk set to come soon? We don't know the answer to that as of yet, but Saudi Arabian website NC4A says so.

The site's editor claims that he's actually had a hands-on with Warhawk 2, thanks to a secret SCEA event. The event was originally marketed as a coming out of sorts for "an unannounced game". Other attendees also included select players of the original title.

Rumors have been going on for a while now, but it's only with this "reveal" that we are hearing for the first time what could be definitive information about Warhawk 2.

Here are the details allegedly found for the game:

The Game will feature a story mode.

It will support Co-op.

Initially the game will support 32 players on the network.

Multiplayer will feature 25 maps.

The game will feature a military vehicles such as tanks, motorcycles, air-crafts and other vehicles.

You can build bunkers but they are subject to destruction by enemies.

Improvements for the combat system and camera angles.

The Graphics [are] better than the previous Warhawk.

We're still waiting for official word from SCEA, but if the secret event was indeed true, then it's pretty obvious they wanted to keep this under wraps until they feel the time is ripe to unveil Warhawk 2. We'll be keeping you posted for that.

Rio gets European launch date

Wii not getting Black Ops DLC love?

Is the Wii not getting the same loving from Treyarch and Activision when it comes to post-release content for Call of Duty: Black Ops? Supposedly, that shouldn't be the case, but in actuality, it seems to be the unfortunate reality.

Previously, DLC support was reassured by the devs and publisher for the Wii version of the first person shooter. It was even printed in the manual that DLC add-ons would be coming their way.

Activision seems to have made a turn-around, though, as they indicated in their earnings report that they don't really have plans right now of sending out DLC for the Wii.

So said Activision:

"On February 1, 2011, Activision Publishing released Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike, the first add-on pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops, on Xbox Live. The map pack set new Xbox Live records with more than 1.4 million downloads in the first 24 hours, an increase of more than 25% over last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package. The map pack also will be available on the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system on March 3, 2011 and on the PC later in the quarter."

Glaringly absent from the mentionables was the Wii console. We know for a fact that the PS3 is scheduled to get the First Strike DLC on March 3, while the PC is to follow suit. The Wii, meanwhile, does not even get a nod of acknowledgment.

Wii gamers are still hoping that Activision will follow-through with their promise of additional DLCs. We're also waiting for the devs and publisher to bring closure to this floating question of whether or not they have fully decided to drop DLC support for the Wi.
