XBL Indie Games launches Angry Fish

The anger moves from the skies to the waters. Angry Birds spin-off game, Angry Fish, has gone live on Xbox Live Indie Games.

Developed and published by Frozen Software, Angry Fish is, shall we say, almost an exact copy of Rovio's hit title. Except, obviously, for the bit where instead of birds, there are fish.

Notwithstanding the obvious copy, it actually looks to be a pretty fun game in and of itself. I don't quite understand what the cat is doing underwater, but oh well. Whatever suits them.

Angry Fish is now out on the XBL Indie Games, and is available for 80MS Points. I kinda doubt it will achieve the success that Angry Birds has (definitely no movie rights are anywhere in sight for Angry Fish), but since Microsoft still hasn't got them birds on board, unlike the PSN, this will have to do for now.

If there's one thing Bethesda wants to make clear, it's that the Elder Scrolls series is theirs alone. Sure, they may be open to sending out its development externally, but as it stands, they'd much rather have it in their own hands, where they can guarantee that the production will always be up to par with their own standards.

Todd Howard himself expounded on this possibility - or lack thereof - of having external devs work on their famed franchise.

"I don't know, we kind of take it bit by bit. I mean New Vegas was unique: as a publisher, we wanted to do something with Obsidian; we knew we were moving on Elder Scrolls; they had a team available... They age us the pitch and we were like, 'That would be a really fun game'. But they had experience with the IP, and with Elder Scrolls we don't have that. I wouldn't rule that out, but generally with everything we want to keep it internal."

Bethesda is currently busy with the upcoming launch of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. So far, thye've promised us that it's going to be "more accessible", while the DLCs will go for quality instead of quantity.

Armor System gets makeover for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Yes, the next time you head over to the Armory in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you'll see that Bethesda has implemented quite the makeover for it. This was confirmed by lead artist Matt Carafano, revealing that while the body armor system is still similar to Oblivion's there will be some new changes.

"The main difference," he started to explain, "is that the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece. This helps create armor styles that have the look we needed for Skyrim. In most of the Nordic designs we created, the upper armor would completely cover the lower armor, making it unnecessary.

We get much better visual results combining those pieces, and it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us. We can also make a lot more armors now, so the number and variation types are more than we've ever had."

Bethesda has been keeping busy, explaining to fans how Skyrim is in no way dumbed down, while at the same time being "streamlined for accessibility." The fifth iteration of the franchise is also said to focus on quality DLC, instead of quantity. That means less DLCs, but should be all the more packed with worthwhile content.

Don't be disappointed if Bethesda opts for fewer DLCs this time around for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. They are guaranteeing anyway that what the game may lack in numbers, it will surely make up in substance.

"We would like to do DLC; we don't have any specific plans yet, but they've been really successful and we like making them," started game director Todd Howard. "So right now, I can say that we'd like to do less DLC but bigger ones - you know, more substantial."

That shouldn't be too much of an issue, really, especially since they've already confirmed that while the full game make take some 20-30 hours, you literally have hundreds of hours for gameplay, depending on how exhaustive you play out your quests. Oh, and there will be dragons, too, of course. Lots of them.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be more 'accessible'

Hardcore Elder Scrolls may not be all too happy with the new path that the franchise is taking, what with Bethesda claiming recently that they want the new iteration to be "really accessible" to the "average person".

So said Lead Producer Craig Lafferty, "We still have the complexity behind the scenes, but we wanted to make it so that you could pick up the controller and play and it wasy; the average person could get into it."

He continued, "We knew we wanted to make the user interface a little bit more open and available, get away from the stats and things like that."

From where did they pick up this brilliant idea? Why, from Apple's big guy, Steve Jobs, of course. "We're all big Apple fans," explained Lafferty, "so slick users interfaces is one of the things we really wanted to do, make it real natural and polished. You're gonna be in that menu a lot."

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was also previously announced to get a 5th Anniversary Edition. As for Skyrim, don't worry, there'll be dragons. Lots of it.

Skyrim console versions to be at par with PC

Bethesda is setting their sights on making the console and PC versions of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at par with each other.

The encouragement came from what is said to be a fantastic-looking Xbox 360 version. "I'd say it scales up in all the ways you'd expect," said game director Todd Howard.

"All of our art's really high-res. There are little things we do with all of our games on PC and the PC texture sizes are going to be as big as you can make them and you can pump the resolution obviously."

Still, their main goal is to make the game look as graphically equal on all platforms. "The benefit you get is when you're playing a PC game you're playing this far away, when you're at home on your console you're usually sitting about six feet away so the game looks the same."

Bethesda: Single-player is where their heart is

Although multiplayer is practically a staple in games nowadays, Bethesday is one company that just ends up ditching it.

Not that they have anything against it, necessarily, it's just that, their heart belongs to something else, and that's single-player.

Talking to IGN, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard divulged, "We always look into multiplayer, put lots of ideas on the whiteboard, and it always loses."

"It's not that we don't like it," he explains. "I can think of ways it would be a lot of fun, but at the end of the day, that dev time is going to take away from doing the best single player game we can, and that's where our hearts are."

That's not to say, however, that they're closing their doors on it absolutely. He hins, "The two most requested features we get are dragons and multiplayer. We got one of them this time!"

Multiplayer fans are undoubtedly crossing their fingers for a multiplayer feature in SKyrim, but somehow, I think it's going to be dragons.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is coming out for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 11, 2011.

New Yakuza 4 trailer goes shady

With the release of Yakuza Of The End just a mere couple of weeks away, Sega's blasting us away with gameplay videos nonstop. If you didn't think that the previous 10 minutes' worth of gameplay trailer sufficed, then don't worry, they've released another one for you.

This new video brings you to the Kamurocho district, and needless to say, it's not as friendly as you would expect the rest of Tokyo to be. After all, this is where all the Yakuza transactions happen.

Of course, where there are modern underground warriors, there'd also be women in seedy strip joints. If you're new to the system and isn't quite sure what to do, it's safe to say you'll be blushing quite a lot right here.

Act like a pro, though. That should keep you out of danger long enough until the real bad guys come along.
