There’s no limit to which a parent will not go to quiet a screaming child.
Skylanders is a full-fledged phenomenon, with Activision confirming that the game/toy hybrid generated more revenue in 2011 than any other new children’s IP. And where there is a phenomenon, there’s a chance for eBay users to cash in. Similar to the past run we’ve seen on toys like Furbies and Beanie Babies, Skylanders toys are fetching ridiculous sums on the auction website.
Check out this eBay page and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Rare characters from New York’s Toy Fair are selling for just around $300.00, which is strange because the toys don’t appear to be all that rare. While it’s not uncommon for rare variants of pretty much anything to land a high price on eBay, one has to wonder at who is actually purchasing these Skylanders. Is it collectors or parents with kids to please?
The Skylanders hype doesn’t seem like it’s going to die down anytime soon, with Activision announcing another line-up of characters and toys due in 2012. Perhaps there’s an opportunity in there for collectors willing to wait in midnight lines and stockpile figures. There’s definitely a market for convention-specific items, if you don’t mind attending a toy fair.
Would you pay $300 for a rare variant of something you already own? What is it about little pieces of plastic that sends collectors into a frenzy?

If you’re terrified that your Kinect is beaming your sensitive habits into space, Paul Harper has just the device for you.
Microsoft’s Kinect device is capable of reading human movements, understanding 3D space and a whole host of other cool things (as evidenced by the modding community). It’s also, apparently, quite handy as a clandestine advertising tool.
Dennis Durkin, vice president of Microsoft’s gaming division, noted a couple of years back that the Kinect could potentially be used to gather information for advertisers. For example, the device could read recognizable product logos in your home and use that data to put together a tailored ad package based on your habits.
It’s pretty intrusive stuff, and even if Microsoft hasn’t taken advantage of the technology yet, there’s always the possibility they could. Which is why Paul Harper has invented the Pritect. It’s not particularly advanced—just a black cover you slip over your Kinect when you’re not using it to bust moves. The cover stops the device from pulling data, and protects it from dust buildup.
If you’re the type of person that’s concerned over Microsoft tracking your out-of-game habits, you can pick up a Pritect for $14.99.
Alternatively, you could stop acting crazy.

If you’re still undecided on the Vita, swing by your local Best Buy and try the device out yourself.
Demo units are among the most important sales mechanics in the world of games hardware. There’s no telling how many consoles and handhelds were sold as a direct result of a browsing customer laying hands on the technology; this is especially true of handheld units, which you really need to hold to understand.
According to Destructoid, a couple of Vita demo units have shown up in a Best Buy in Connecticut. The games were equipped with small memory cards and the Little Deviants launch title (no Uncharted?!). Unlike the usual demo setup, these devices aren’t nailed to a wall or promotional stand and instead roam the store in the hands of employees.
There’s no word on how quickly Best Buy will be rolling the devices out nationwide, but it’s a fair bet you’ll be seeing them in your local store soon enough. If you want to get your hands on a Vita, the best thing to do is call the store to see if the demos are out.
Do you think trying a Vita in person will change your buying plans?

For the first time since it was announced, we will now be getting to see a glimpse of what awaits us in the final three years of Harry Potter and the gang's Lego-fied adventure, thanks to this very first trailer for the LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-
Of course we all know how the story went. A lot of important characters died in the book, and shown in the movie as well, of course, such as Dumbledore and Snape. Heck, even Harry died. But he did go back to life and in the end defeeated Voldemort.
Oh, you didn't finish all the way to the end of the series? Come on, even the movie is finished already, and that's after the book came out some couple of years back! I suggest you go finish it before this game version comes out.
Not that it's going to matter in how you play the game, but am guessing it's just going to be more fun seeing the words from the book, and the scenes from the movie, transformed into these adorable building blocks.
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 comes out for all platforms conceivable (really!). As in, for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, PS Vita, PSP, NDS and 3DS later this holiday season.

Square Enix confirmed today that they will be coming out with a downloadable version of Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PSP.
In fact, it will be available online as a download purchase on the same day that the UMD version comes out in Japan, which is on October 27th.
At least you guys now have an option of which format to use for the game. If you're not digging the 2-disc system of the UMD version, which will set you back JPY 7,700, then there's the downloadable version for you. That one's going to come at a cheaper cost, too, at JPY 6, 480. All you have to do is get on the PlayStation Store, and you should be good to go.
The game was previously delayed for a bit, but at least now it's guaranteed to be coming out on their set date. The delay was reportedly a reaction by Square Enix to the fans' reception of the demo that came out previously. Hopefully with the extra time they got on their hands, all the issues will be resolved by the time the game comes out.

A new Tales game is apparently in the works, this according to series producer Makoto Yoshizumi.

According to Makoto, work has already started on the yet unnamed new Tales title. As to which platform they will be bringing it to, Makoto remains mum about it.
Asked about the possibility of a port to the PlayStation Vita, however, he said that the development studio is actually actively considering development for Sony's new handheld. It seems, though, too, that they do have something in store for it as Makoto did say that we might as well expect to hear something about it soon.
In the meantime, you can watch out for the DVD release of the Tales of Festival, which happened in Tokyo earlier this year.

Trenched may currently be stuck in the rut as to the certainty of its European release. Publisher Double Fine, however, is reassuring that Microsoft is helping them work out a plan to resolve said issue.
"This entire process has been very frustrating to us," said producer Brad Muir, "and it maks us sad that the people of Europe can't play our game. Microsoft owns the IP for Trenched and they are working to resolve things as quickly as possible."
The problem arose when board game designer Rui Alipio Monteiro apparently has registered "Trench" as a trademark, and was also planning on turning it into a video game.
"I wish there were more information to give but it's still unclear as to how things will shake out. The one thing I do know is that the game will be released in those territories! It might take a while, but Europeans will have the opportunity to stick it to Vlad and his Tubes. We would recommend playing through Castle Crashers for the 17th time while you wait, because that game rules and Dan Paladin is a national treasure."
Trenched launched on the XBLA without a hitch for North America last month, June 22nd.

We know, we know. You'd all love to see the Wii Tales of Graces grace the Western shores with its presence. Sadly, that won't be happening, though, as confirmed yet again by publisher Namco Bandai. But if it's any consolation, they are considering coming out with HD ports of the older Tales titles.
Said Makoto Yoshizumi, "We wish to deliver the best and most complete experience for US and European fans, therefore we're localizing Tales of Graces f. The game on the PS3 version is on a blu-ray disc. It would be next to impossible to condense all the game's data on a Wii disc, so unfortunately, there will be no Wii release."
As for that alternative option, the HD release of older titles, "This is something we would like to do and we are currently working to see if it would be possible to port older Tales games: Phantasia, Destiny, or Eternia, not only in Japan, but throughout the world. However, I still can't give much information about this. We are still discussing about whether this project can be done and on which game console those ports would be made."
Tales of Graces is then coming out exclusively for the PS3.

According to the survey conducted by KontrolFreak, Pac-Man is indeed the people's all-time favorite game.
Reportedly, a whopping 80% of the participants voted Pac-Man for their pick when asked which video game is their favorite. What is not known, however, is if they were asked to identify the game, or if they were made to choose from a range of options -- if so, what other games were included in the list.
Apparently, the survey was conducted as part of the company's study for the promotion of their brand of arcade sticks, so playability on these controls might have been a factor for the said survey. Surprisingly, no new title is included in the list. It can either imply two things: that the survey is limited to old consoles, or that people really just dig down really deep into their childhood when asked about their favorite games.
The rest of the top 10 "All-time Fave" games include the following:
Pac-Man
Donkey Kong
Space Invaders
Asteroids
Frogger
Ms. Pac-Man
Centipede
Pong
Mortal Kombat

Did you ever think the LittleBigPlanet games could actually be used to make more creative stuff, apart from the levels in-game? If you didn't, this should get you inspired.
Chandra Nair is a games journaist-turned music producer from London. Using the tools present in LittleBigPlanet 2, he came up with a music video for his first music venture, She's The One, and of course with Sony's blessings.
The song was written by him in collaboration with his partner, Laurence Allen. "I've always thought that it would be pretty cool to do something with LBP, but it wasn't until LBP 2 came out that I actually sat down with it to see what the potential was," he narrated.
"The first huge problem was that I had to complete the game to 100% to unlock all the materials and objects... nightmare!"
Critics might scoff and say that the music video isn't a hundred percent made within the LBP 2 structure, anyway. But try 90%. That's still very impressive.
"Anywhere you see LBP characters is an LBP 2 scene created in the game, from scratch. Creating the Lamborghini model was probably the biggest challenge of the entire project.
The few exceptions have been created by animating photos, but this has only been done because I couldn't find any other way to recreate it. The text overlays (such as where the 'bon bon' text spins) is all done in After Effects."
Check out what he and his partner have done with the music video:
"I honestly don't think you could do this in any other game. I didn't even know you could do this with LBP 2 and people who have seen it have no idea the game is so flexible. The game does impose limitations on what you can do... but if you're clever with camera positions you can do some great stuff."

If you've been keeping up to date on the releases of the Back to the Future episodes, then we're pretty sure you're expeting the fifth and final installment to arrive sometime this month.
After all, Telltale Games has been consistent in releasing the episodes on a monthly basis since January. However, it seems that they won't be following that usual routine for Episode 5.
Telltale announced via their official blogpost that OUTATIME won't be coming out this month, but instead will be rolling out in June. That's for the PC version. Since the iPad and PSN versions usually hit these platforms a month after PC, then it should go to follow that the PSN and iPad versions won't be out till July.
They didn't give out an explanation as to why they're holding out on us for that long, but since it's the last installment, it should make sense that they'd want Back to the Future to end with a big bang, right?

We know that Namco Bandai has got some suprise in store for all the fans of the Tales series. Their European arm has been the first in making the tease, but now it seems that their North American office has joined in the bandwagon.
Community Manager Richard Bantegui posted this message on their Twitter page:
Hi #Tales fans! Stay tuned next week for a really cool read* Can't say much but Tales fans will be really excited ~ http://on.fb.me/hPYbxd
If you follow that link at the end of his message, you should get to their official Facebook page for Tales. I guess that means if you want to find out firsthand what this "cool read" is, then you should Like that button and get yourself in on the circuit.
We should find out what this new detail could be -- if it's a release date for a new Tales game, a new trailer, a new twist or whatever. Stay tuned!

So yesterday we reported on Music Unlimited heading off to the PSP and potentially, on the NGP. While this is all good news, it's not one that comes free. Sony now released a statement justiying the prices tagged along with the service.
Said Shawn Layden, EVP and CEO of Sony Network Entertainment, "The feedback is all over the place. Some people wrongly think music should be free. Why would I use this service when I can pull it all down Limewire for free? Well that's exactly what people ought not to be doing."
The pegged price for Music Unlimited is at £3.99 a month for the basic plan, while the premium service costs 10 bucks every month. People understandably have balked at the seemingly steep pricing, but Layden insists that it's just a matter of supporting the artist.
"We feel that way in the game business. We feel that way in the movie business. This is content. It has value. People spend their lives creating this, and so there has to be some way to reward them for their labour. It only seems fair."
Inevitably, the issue of piracy is raised, and to this, he said, "They have got away with it [piracy] for years. We try to modify that behaviour. We try to get people to understand and realize that behind these music there are artists and theose artists have careers and livs and a cost of living that goes with that."
"If you just lay out the value proposition, £9.99 a month for six million songs, any time, anywhere, all of the time, it's not hard to do the math on that. That's two trips to Starbucks to have all the music in the world. But users always want it to be less rather than want it to be more. This is a fairly established price point for this kind of offering in the market. We think it's equitable and fair."
He also remained confident that despite the initial reactions on the pricing, Music Unlimited will still be a success on the PSP. After all, it's been "quite successful" on the PS3.
"The PS3 user is, shall we say, more net savvy than others. They're already into the network via the PlayStation Network, which has been up for about three-and-a-half years. They understand that world and what you get when you go there and how to navigate that."
Ultimately, wants to be able to make your PSN ID as an access to everything PS, including Sony Bravia TVs and Android phones.
