Nintendo finally brings the Wii into 2011. Nice work, fellas.
Nintendo is usually the industry leader when it comes to innovative ideas and new tech, but has lagged sadly behind when it comes to online functionality. The Nintendo Wii, frankly, was never designed as a multifunctional device in the way that the PS3 and Xbox 360 were, and the console has fallen by the wayside when it comes to non-gaming activities.
Despite the fact that the Wii is on the way out, Nintendo is still working to bring it up to speed with current console competitors. And today they’ve taken another step in the right direction by adding Hulu Plus support to the device. As of this morning, the Hulu Plus channel is officially available for download.
You’ll need to pay the $7.99/mo subscription fee for the service, of course, and have your Wii connected to some sort of internet. If you can meet those requirements, you’ll be watching new episodes of House and whatever else you kids watch in no time.
Nintendo appears ready to address concerns over its multimedia failings with a full-on app store for the Wii U, but time will tell if it’s enough to drive gamers towards the Wii U and away from existing platforms during the console’s short head start this fall.
What do you think? Can Nintendo find a way to match the PS3 and Xbox 360’s robust multimedia functionality?

A group of BF3 cheaters has a bone to pick with Punkbuster, and they’re doing it at the expense of regular joes.
The beating heart of Battlefield 3 is its intense online multiplayer. And whenever you have online multiplayer in a game, you have to find a way to protect it from cheaters. On PC versions of the game, this function is performed by software known as Punkbuster.
Punkbuster is an automated program that analyzes every player on a particular server and looks for known cheats and other exploits. If it catches someone in the act, they are immediately banned from EA’s Battlelog service. According to Kotaku, some of these cheaters are unhappy with the way Punkbuster affects their game, and have elected to take their frustrations out on the regular BF3 populace.
It seems that somehow, these players have managed to compromise Punkbuster on certain servers, and are using the service to ban innocent players. The group claims to have dumped over 150 players to date, and the official BF3 forums are awash in complaints of unwarranted bans. Essentially, this small selection of players has chosen to protest Punkbuster by using it against non-cheating individuals.
Posting to a bots and exploits forum, one user had this to say about Punkbuster:
“We are bringing back the unerring of punkbuster back for a 3rd season. We have selected ggc-stream as the target since they have the most streaming bf3 servers and makes it very easy to add fake bans. In 2011 we hit them with a mass ban wave and now were are banning real players from battlelog while ggc-stream is totally unaware. We have framed 150+ bf3 players alone.”
This story is still developing, and there’s been no official word from either DICE or Punkbuster on what may be going on, so the news should be taken with a grain of salt. Look for future updates as information is made available.
What do you think of Punkbuster?

Nintendo 3DS titles score the top three slots for 2011 sales.
Japan’s gaming market is very, very different from the one here in the west. Japanese gamers are big fans of portable titles, and they’re not really that into the AAA FPS blockbusters that seem to do so well in the U.S. and in Europe. With that in mind, the 2011 software sales tallies for Japan don’t really come as much of a surprise.
Mario Kart 7 landed firmly in first place, followed by Super Mario 3D Land. In fact, of the top ten games, five were exclusively available on a Nintendo console. The rest of the list belongs to the PlayStation 3, with not one Xbox 360 title breaking into the top ten.
Here’s the full list, courtesy of Edge:
01. Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo, 3DS)
02. Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo, 3DS)
03. Monster Hunter Tri G (Capcom, 3DS)
04. Final Fantasy Type-0 (Square Enix, PSP)
05. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Square Enix, PS3)
06. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom, PSP)
07. Minna No Rhythm Tengoku (Nintendo, Wii)
08. Tales Of Xillia (Namco Bandai, PS3)
09. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 Professional (DS)
10. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Wii)
What’s really amazing about Mario Kart topping the charts for the year is that the game didn’t hit shelves until December 1. That means that every one of the 1.16 million units sold moved in just a rough 30-day period. Not too shabby there, Nintendo. Also interesting is Final Fantasy XIII-2’s presence on the list, despite the fact that the game opened relatively weak and many news outlets lamented it as a failure.
So what do these numbers tell us about the western market? Nothing at all, of course!

We’re seeing quite a few top ten lists, but there’s one problem  - we’ve played most of these games before.
2011 is over and every gaming publication on earth is counting down through the best games of the year. Most have posted some sort of top ten list detailed what they believed to be the strongest titles of the year, and for the most part the lists make sense – Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution , Skyward Sword, etc.
I just have one problem – nearly all of these games are sequels or continuations of a franchise. In a year of blockbuster sales and enormous launch events, we’ve been treated to very little in the way of original titles. So, here’s what I want to know, QJ readers:
What ORIGINAL title do you believe was the best of the year?
For reference, here are some of the non-sequel games that launched in 2011:
Bastion
L.A. Noire
Magicka
Jetpack Joyride
From Dust
Sanctum
Frozen Synapse
Terraria
The Binding of Isaac
You’ll note that most of the originality in the industry is coming from the indie circuit. Big developers simply aren’t taking risks on new properties. Anyway, what’s your pick for best original game 2011?

A leaked GameStop document hints that North America’s Vita launch may be accompanied by more games than previously thought.
We talked a couple of weeks ago about Vita’s confirmed launch titles, but it looks like a few games managed to slip through the radar. A leaked internal document from games retailer GameStop indicates that there are more titles hitting shelves than we were led to believe, chief among them Gravity Rush and Lumines.
Destructoid acquired an update launch list thanks to one of their clever readers, who likely scored the document from a friend or works at GameStop himself. Take a look at the list and see what you like:

Lumines Electronic Symphony --$39.99
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 --$39.99
Uncharted: Golden Abyss --$49.99
Hot Shots Golf World Invitational --$29.99
Wipeout 2048 --$29.99
Little Deviants --$29.99
Reality Fighters --$29.99
ModNation Racers --$29.99
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extended --$39.99
Virtua Tennis 4 World Tour --$39.99
Gravity Rush --$39.99
Post-Launch
Supremacy MMA(Feb 16) 2/16
FIFA Soccer (Feb 21)
Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen (Feb 21)
Touch My Katamari (Feb 21)
Ridge Racer (Feb 21)
F1 2011 (Feb 22)
MLB 12: The Show (March 6)
Disgaea 3: Absense of Detention (March 20)
Army Corps of Hell (March-ish)
Little Big Planet (March 31)
Ruin (April)
Resistance: Burning Skies (May)
Are you planning on picking up a Vita at launch, or are the problems surrounding the device enough to make you wait until a potential price drop?

Despite getting off to a roaring start, the PS Vita has completely tanked at is rolls beyond the first seven days.
In Japan, PS Vita certainly made its presence known during its launch week. The device moved over 320,000 units – putting it on par with first-week 3DS sales and far outstripping the initial haul of the original PSP. But the momentum doesn’t seem to have carried beyond early adopters, as the device managed to sell only 72,000 units in its second week.
Now, 72,000 devices sold certainly isn’t a terrible number, but it’s worth noting that the Vita was outsold by the 3DS, Wii, PS3 and original PSP – not a great sign for a device that’s supposedly the next handheld revolution. Gamers just aren’t flocking to the system as Sony might have hoped.
The software numbers aren’t any better, with not a single Vita game breaking the top 20. Of course, it’s hard to get a bead on exactly how well Vita games are selling, since many are available for download through PSN and Sony has yet to release their sales figures.
Vita is still young and we’ll have to see how the whole thing plays out, but dropping from 320,000 sold to 72,000 sold in just one week (in the middle of the holiday rush) certainly isn’t a good omen.
What do you think? Do these numbers indicate a problem for Vita, or is it just the natural progression of a new device finding its feet?

Both L.A. Noire and L.A. Noire: Complete Edition are available for download as of today.
Love solving crimes? What about interrogating shady characters? If so, Rockstar has you covered. The company announced today that L.A. Noire and L.A. Noire: Complete Edition are both available on the PSN store, meaning you can get in on the joy of solving gruesome murders all without having to walk down to the local game store.
L.A. Noire includes the basic game as it was launched, and will run you $31.99 (thanks, discount!). The Complete Edition, which is priced at $34.99, includes the full original game as well as every bit of DLC that’s been released since the game hit shelves. Honestly, for $3 more you’d be crazy not to upgrade to the full version.
L.A. Noire wasn’t as well received as some of Rockstar’s other games, but it’s worth noting that they mostly put the game together after Team Bondi tried and failed. That being said, the game is still an interesting narrative experience, so if you’re looking for a way to kill some time over the holidays and don’t want to pitch for a brand new game, L.A. Noire could be the way to go. It’s no Red Dead Redemption, but it’s still pretty good by most accounts.

Want to know what games are hitting shelves with the Vita when it drops here in the U.S.? Check out our list!
Today has been an interesting day for Vita news. First, we got an idea of how expensive the device’s memory cards were actually going to be (read: not very). Now, we have a confirmed and official list of every game that will be available at launch. And the list is pretty long, especially when compared to some other launches.
Some of the games are likely not going to be great, but the presence of Uncharted and Hot Shots Golf are enough to ensure Sony sells at least a few thousand devices. And hey, who doesn’t love Katamari?
Here’s your launch list:
SCEA Launch Day Titles
Escape Plan (PSN Only)
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
Hustle Kings (PSN Only)
Little Deviants
ModNation Racers: Road Trip
Super StarDust Delta (PSN only)

The official U.S. prices for Sony’s proprietary memory cards have been released, and they’re not as bad as expected.
We broke news a few weeks ago regarding PS Vita’s memory cards and their absurd prices, but the prices we had were based on rough yen conversions and by no means official. Today, Sony released the pricing information for the tiny plastic cards that store your game data and other media, and it turns out they’re not so bad. Remember, some games will require memory cards, so this purchase isn’t optional.
Here’s the pricing breakdown, courtesy of GameTrailers:
4 GB - $19.99
8 GB – $29.99
16 GB - $59.99
32 GB – $99.99
This price announcement brings the cards down to a more reasonable level, though they’re still not exactly cheap. The real question will be whether retailers can keep them on shelves – store in Japan have been sold out of cards since launch, despite having Vita stock left over.
Memory cards will be available starting February 15 – a week before the Vita hits stores. It’s probably a good idea to pick one up early if you’re planning to buy a Vita.
What do you think of the official prices?

An Easter Egg discovered on Back to Karkand’s Wake Island hints at a sequel to DICE’s futuristic shooter.
Battlefield 3’s Wake Island is buried in Easter Eggs. First, users find dinosaurs hidden all over the place (likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to fans wishing for a BF3/Jurassic Park mash-up), and now one intrepid gamer has discovered another, more telling Easter Egg, in the form of “2143” painted on a tank.
Check it out:
Now, this could be mere set dressing, or it could be in place to stir up the rumor mill, but either way it brings questions to light – primarily, is DICE working on a sequel to Battlefield 2142? After all, almost nothing you find in a video game environment is there by accident, so the developers definitely went out of their way to print the numbers where they are. Then again, it could just be an elaborate troll on the part of developers known for having a little fun with their user base.
There’s really no way to tell what’s going on, and DICE has been silent on the issue. Basically, this is just one for the rumor mill until we hear otherwise. Or, we could just use our brains. Why wouldn’t DICE make a sequel to one of its most popular games? It’s not like they’re going to drop Battlefield 4 next year, right?
Right?

Surprise! Lots of people want to play Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the game’s developer is working around the clock to accommodate the sudden crush of new users.
According to the clock on my wall, Star Wars: The Old Republic still has about 12 hours before being officially released to the public. But early access and a few other interesting events have brought about a million players into the MMORPG’s digital world, and even though the game isn’t even on shelves yet, its servers are struggling to match demand.
As early access went online, there were 140 servers available on which to play. Now that queues on most have surpassed two hours during peak hours, Bioware is racing to add more capacity to the game before the massive wave of new players hits tomorrow. It’s not uncommon for new MMOs to be saddled with queue times – I remember waiting in line when I first started playing World of Warcraft – but there is certainly a point at which players will refuse to wait. Personally, I think anything over 30 minutes is enough to send players running.
Star Wars: The Old Republic stands to be one of the biggest launches of the year and one of the most impressively attended MMOs since WoW, so it’s up to Bioware to make that experience pleasurable for new players. If people are still on the fence about whether or not they’re going to move their guild to a new game, a two-hour queue certainly isn’t going to help sell SWTOR to them.
As noted, SWTOR already has a million players, and will likely see an increase of at least 500,000 in its first week of launch. EA and Bioware are hoping to land two million paying players in 2013, so hopefully they’ll be on the ball when it comes to balancing out the servers.
Are you in the early access program? What have your experiences been like so far?

The hugely popular freemium MMO has suffered a devastating security breach.
Nexon has an incredible empire going right now, with games like MapleStory, Combat Arms and Mabinogi quietly amassing millions of players while the gaming industry obsesses over games like Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3. It’s really quite amazing – they have some of the largest subscriber numbers in the industry and not too many “gamers” are that familiar with their work.
MapleStory is one of their largest successes, boasting over 100 million subscribers – that’s ten times World of Warcraft. Of course, MapleStory is free to play, and Nexon has confirmed only around a million players purchasing things in the cash shop, but the game is definitely a large player in the global MMO market. Now, it looks like some of those players’ information may be at risk thanks to a fairly large hacker attack.
Nexon reported that it discovered a breach of its South Korean network, which resulted in the information of over 13 million subscribers being compromised. The information includes usernames, real names, passwords and the residential registration number of the player. At this time, the breach only affects Korean players, as Nexon uses separate servers for each country. However, it stands to reason that security holes in one network exist in others, so MapleStory players should be wary regardless of their location.
Nexon cannot confirm whether the information was actually stolen, they can only say that it was accessible. Either way, it’s a harsh lesson for one of the larger companies in the freemium market, especially when you consider how important it is that Nexon keeps your credit card info on file. If people are unwilling to share their information with Nexon, their cash shop goes right down the drain.
Do you play MapleStory? Are you concerned over Nexon’s ability to protect your personal information?

A survey send to Assassin’s Creed fans list some potential times and locations for a new AC game. Where would you want to go?
Sure, Assassin’s Creed  has nailed down free-running and sneaky stabbing, but one of the most interesting facets of the franchise has always been its interactions with history. While the game boasts plenty of mindless assassinating and exploring, there’s always a significant historical tone to each game, as well as cameos from some of the most famous names in our collective past.
We’ve explored renaissance Italy, hung out in Constantinople before it became Istanbul, and skulked around during the Third Crusade, but where are we going next? That’s just the question posed by a survey from Empire State Gamers, sent out to a bunch of Assassin’s Creed fans. The survey asks where gamers think the next game should take place and poses some interesting options.
Check them out:
• The violent conflicts of the Imperial Dynasties in Medieval China
• The advent of the mighty British Empire during Victorian England
• The culmination of the Pharaoh Reign in Ancient Egypt
• The invasion of the Americas by the Spanish Conquistadors
• The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution
• The overthrow of the Tsar Empire by the Communists during the Russian Revolution
• The Warlord Battles in Feudal Japan
• The rise of Cesar’s Empire in Ancient Rome
Of all these locations, I think the Tsar Empire and British Empire sound like the most plausible options. Sure, Ancient Egypt would be fun, as would the American revolution, but there isn’t much room for free running in those areas and times. At least, not in the scale we’ve seen in previous games. Then again, Ubisoft can always fudge the architecture a bit, right?
Which option do you think is the most interesting?

Leaked screenshots and cryptic Tweets indicate that Sony may be working on its own version of the Nintendo brawler.
Super Smash Bros. originally launched on the Nintendo 64, and was an instant classic. Nintendo fans immediately felt a connection to the familiar characters, and the simple but precise fighting mechanics turned the game into a massive success. The follow-up game, Super Smash Bros. Melee, launched for the GameCube and was probably the best iteration of the franchise, though the Wii’s Brawl is still looked upon in a positive light.
All things considered, the Super Smash Bros. game system is a brilliant moneymaker. Take familiar characters and make them fight. The end. So it’s no surprise that Nintendo’s competitors would want to get in on the action, and recent information indicates that Sony is doing just that.
Here’s what we know:
We know that a game, codenamed Title Fight, is in development at SuperBot Entertainment. We also vaguely know that the game involves several of Sony’s most famous characters, including Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, Twisted Metal’s Sweet Tooth and God of War’s Kratos. Also – Parappa the Rappa.
Various game websites have conducted investigations, turning up screenshots from the game, pictures of arcade joysticks and a tweet from SuperBot’s Chris Molina indicating that the new Sony commercials featuring a collection of familiar characters was “foreshadowing” his studio’s game.
There’s a full interview up at Paul Gale Network that basically lays the entire game out on a platter, so it’s unclear exactly how much of this is “rumor” and how much is “information.” For now, it definitely looks like Sony is cooking up a Super Smash Bros-type game.
Do you think it’s possible for another developer to capitalize on the success of the Smash Bros franchise?

Downloadable maps are now available for the Xbox 360 shooter, free of charge.
If you downloaded the Horde Command Pack earlier this month, you’ve probably already had a chance to enjoy some of the new multiplayer Gears of War 3 maps. But if you chose not to purchase the DLC, don’t worry – you can access the maps as of today without paying a dime.
The Booster Map Pack, which went live today, includes all of the maps released with the Horde Command Pack including Blood Drive, Rustlong, Clocktower, Bulletmarch and Azura. Of course, the free DLC doesn’t include the Horde fortifications or weapon skins, nor does it include the extra characters found in the Command Pack.
Still, it’s nice to see that Epic Games is finding a way to cash in on DLC without leaving a significant number of its fans out in the cold. If you can’t afford the map packs, you’ll still be able to experience them with your friends minus a few extras features. Nice work, Epic! Also, players should keep an eye out for the next GoW DLC pack, RAAM’s Shadow, due on December 13.
Are you going to download the Booster Map Pack, or did you already purchase the Command Pack? Or neither?

Most of the big stuff has come out already, but there are still plenty of new games to play in this week’s edition of “On Shelves.”
It looks like the crazy holiday release schedule is finally slowing down, with most of the major releases already on shelves and waiting to be picked up. But the games industry is an ever-moving beast, and there are still quite a few games scheduled for release in the upcoming week.
Who knows, some of them might even be good! But when an iPhone game is the biggest launch of the week, don’t expect any miracles.
Here’s your list of releases, organized in no way at all:
Infinity Blade II
iPhone, iPad
ESRB N/A
Epic Games
Heavy Fire: Afghanistan – The Chosen Few
PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS
ESRB Teen
Mastiff
Steel Armor – Blaze of War
PC
ESRB RP
Play Indie
Jaws: Ultimate Predator
Wii, 3DS
ESRB Teen
Majesco Studios
Small World Tunnels
PC
ESRB RP
Days of Wonder
Face Racers: Photo Finish
Nintendo 3DS
ESRB E
Majesco
Combat Arms: Zombies
iPhone
ESRB N/A
Nexon
That’s pretty much it for this week. There are a few other minor titles coming out, but honestly Infinity Blade II is the only thing on this list I had even heard of before today. GameSpot’s list is missing box art for 2/3s of the list.
Looks like this may be the break everyone needed for Skyrim!

Well, not exactly. It’s free in terms of cash-money, but you’ll have to sell your soul to Origin.
If you like Burnout games but hate spending money, today is your day. A few savvy gamers at HotUKDeals have worked out how to score a copy of Burnout Paradise completely for free, with the only catch being that you have to use Origin to get it.
Here’s how the deal works: Log into your Origin account (or create a new one), run a quick search for Burnout and add Burnout Paradise to your cart. When you head to checkout, type the code “PARADISE” into the promo codes box and the game’s price will be dropped from £4.99 to £0.00. Unfortunately, this deal only seems to be active in the UK – no free games for us folks in the States.
Paradise earned rave reviews and is certainly a fan favorite, so picking the game up for free is an excellent deal. The game takes place in a fairly large virtual city, with stunt, race and other events strewn about at various intersections. Driving around to find the start of a failed challenge can be annoying, but the game has a great soundtrack and for the most part is fun to play.
Besides, if you’re getting it for free, what do you have to lose?

Today is your last day to buy games at the old five-system share rate. New Game limits are in place when the service comes back online.
We discussed Sony’s recent decision to change the game sharing limit from five games to two a few weeks back, and (judging from the comments) people didn’t seem too happy about the new policy. Regardless of booming customer complaints, Sony is moving forward with the plan and will take PSN down from 8am to 10pm (PST) tomorrow to implement the update.
This means if you want to buy games that still fall under the old five-game limit, you need to buy them before the service goes down tomorrow morning.
Sony is calling the 14-hour downtime “routine maintenance,” but it certainly seems like a long time for their online service to be off-limits. I don’t own a PS3 so I’m unfamiliar with their maintenance routine – please let me know in the comments if this is something they do frequently.
During the downtime, you won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, Account Management or create new accounts, and you won’t be able to access your account via the web. Here’s one strange thing though, Sony indicates in their official blog that “some users” may still be able to play online. Some?
There’s also a PS3 firmware update included in the maintenance, but details are scant. We’ll keep you posted as we get more information.
How do you feel about the new game sharing limits?

Recent numbers indicate that games for the two mobile platforms have outsold PSP and DS software. Like, by a lot.
Nintendo, I think, is considered the champion of handheld gaming. The Sony PSP has certainly made headway, and the shaky launch of the 3DS combined with Vita’s hype threatens Nintendo’s position in the market, but for the most part, they’ve ruled the handheld roost since launching the Game Boy way back in 1989. Pretty much everyone has a DS, right?
But a new challenger has appeared in recent years, one that has managed to put games in the hands of non-gamers and absolutely demolish both the PSP and Nintendo handhelds in terms of raw software sales: the mobile market.
According to numbers from Flurry, mobile games sales represented an astounding 58% of games sales in the last year, compared to 36% for the Nintendo DS and only 6% for the PSP. That means that mobile games have sold more software than the DS and PSP combined. Sony and Nintendo have earned around $1.4 billion in portable games sales this year, combined to $1.9 billion for Android market and iOS. The industry is certainly changing.
Mobile gaming is going to continue to dominate in terms of raw sales, but I think  the writer over at TechCrunch has this point severely wrong: “I think Sony and Nintendo have to come to grips with the fact that iOS and Android are capable of much richer play experiences than PSP or 3DSs are.”
He then goes on to list Angry Birds and Disney’s Mobile AppMates as evidence of these “rich” play experiences. That’s a pretty big jump when you start looking at some of the incredible games we’ve seen on handheld consoles, and when you consider that some of the best games on mobile systems are dumbed-down DS or PSP games.
But he’s right about one thing – by not developing games for the mobile market, Nintendo and Sony are missing a big profit opportunity.
What do you think of these new numbers? Do you think mobile platforms provide “richer” games than the DS or PSP?

The fall/winter barrage of games continues at full speed. What game are you picking up next week?
Well, Modern Warfare 3 is out, Skyrim launches tomorrow and plenty of people have picked up Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3. But before you get too comfortable, it’s time to take note of even more games heading your way in this ridiculous 2011 holiday season. Did I see a PS2 game in there? I guess people still have those, but I didn’t think game developers were spending any time on the platform.
So what’s your poison this week? I’m not buying anything, since I’ll be buried in Skyrim. But, if I had to choose, I think I’d go with Assassin’s Creed.

PlayStation 3 owners are about to lose one of the system’s best features – the ability to share PSN games with up to five other devices.
Sony just announced that the PSN share limit is changing from five devices to two as of November 18th. Any content purchased on or after that date will only be available for sharing across two devices, a stark change from the previous policy. You’ll still be able to play two PSPs and two PS3’s, bringing the potential total to four, but that’s only for games that can operate on both systems. Otherwise, you’re stuck with just the two.
To clarify: PSN games downloaded after November 18th can be shared to two PS3 systems and two PSPs, down from the original number of five. Sony is also adding a web tool that finally allows you to deactivate your account from old systems, saving you the hassle of a long customer support call in the event that your PS3 fails and you need to recover your games on a new console.
Game sharing was always one of the more interesting things that PSN brought to the table, allowing you to “bring” games to your friend’s house or share them with a family member’s account when you were home for the holidays. While reports of abuse certainly came up, most gamers probably used the system exactly as intended.
Paring down the total number of systems probably won’t impact too many people, but it’s still a strange thing to do so far into the development cycle. The comments section of the PlayStation blog shows a pretty clear resistance to the idea, so we’ll just have to see how it plays out.
What do you think of the new reduced sharing limit?

It took them the PSP Go to finally make a hardline stance on the matter, but now Sony has seen the light and is insisting that now is not the time for a download-only console.
Said Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios boss, "We believe, for some consumers, the time is [right], but for other consumers, the time is still not [right]. So we believe the time is still not right to go download-only as a platform."
What could be the deciding factor as to why they are siding with those consumers who not ready for a download-only approach in gaming? It's simple: broadband internet. "Some PS Vita titles, like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, will be close to 4GB in size, which could be too large to download for consumers who do not have a fast broadband connection." But apart from this, "Some consumers like shopping in retail stores, talking to knowledgeable store clerks, buying and playing games on the spot. We do not want to remove that capability from consumers."
SCEE's Jim Ryan concurs, saying that, "There are consumers in parts of the world - this is a global device - where the digital model has not yet fully been embraced." And it's true, really. In fact, in a study recently concluded, not even the US or UK are in the forerunners of downloading speed. And mind you, everyone gets just a tad bit -- okay, that's not true, a whole LOT -- more impatient when it comes to downloading their stuff on the Internet. What more if it's a game that you've been waiting for eons to come?
Nobody would want to sit around several hours just waiting for the download to finish, on top of the full year (at a minimum) that you've already spent just waiting in anticipation for the game to hit retail.
I would have to agree with Sony on this one. The global infrastructure for a hi-speed connection just isn't all that well set yet. Of course, as a business, they'll have to take into top consideration as well what their other consumers' capacity for enjoying their products are going to be.
The failure of the PSP Go most definitely made this impact on them. Releasing the system without the UMD was a misstep on their part, which they immediately realized when it went dead cold on store shelves just months after its launch. And then they atoned for it by coming up with the PlayStation Vita.
Not to say that a download-only console will be nay possible in the future, but as for now, am fine with my physical media as it is. There's someting fairly comforting having it in the palm of my hands.
