XNA Creators Club Games: prices and details |
Ó
Have you always wanted to be a video game developer? Well, Microsoft is certainly offering you the opportunity to be one from the comfort of your own home via the XNA Code Creators Club.Microsoft has revealed details on pricing and availability for XNA homebrew games, which will be made available this holiday season via the Xbox Live Community Games initiative.
According to their press release and FAQ (linked below), members of the Creators Club can submit their games for peer review. If it's given the green light by your peers, you can price your game and place it up for sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Pricing appears to be based on the size of your game. 50MB games can be sold for 200 Microsoft points, while larger games (around 150MB) can be sold for 400 or 800 MS points.
As for the moneymaking aspect of the initiative, let's take it straight from the FAQ:
Creators will receive 70 percent of the total revenue from their game sales as a baseline. We will additionally invest in and feature a handful of games at a time by promoting them both on the console as well as on Xbox.com. During this promotional period where games are showcased along with a handful of others, we will deduct 10-30 percent promotional fee based on performance in exchange for driving increased exposure and sales.
You'll get a check every quarter based on the revenue generated by your games.
It certainly sounds like a nice way to get into the game development scene, or even to hone your skills for other programming projects. Plus, it probably beats the old lemonade stand idea when it comes to making money.
