Games on Demand - Image 1

If you're looking for Microsoft's Xbox Originals service but can't find it, don't worry. It's just been renamed to Games on Demand. It's not just a simple act of renaming the service too, as Microsoft will soon be adding Xbox 360 games for download.

The new service will initially offer around 30 older Xbox 360 games. These games, which include titles like Mass Effect, BioShockCrackdown, and Oblivion, will start rolling out in August. New games will also be added regularly.

Prices will reportedly be in line with retail copies, which is kinda bunk if you ask me since there are no disc production costs and whatnot to pad the price tag. At least gamers don't need to buy MS Points to make their purchases as credit card transactions will be supported in the new service.

So, when I try to install crackdown to HDD off my disk and I can't... it's because of this?

I don't want downloadable games that I can easily find for the same, if not, cheaper price.

I want more XBO titles. Have yet to buy one, contemplating on GTA:SA. I'm really hoping for NFS:U2 though, but I heard XBO titles will be discontinued after the last game is release, KotoR.

Why wouldn't you be able to do that? So long as you have the hard drive space, you should still be able to install games. If you buy a game from Games on Demand, it downloads to your HDD, meaning it's already accomplished the same thing installing it from a disc would have. Slightly faster loading, and no disc drive noise.

The difference between installing from a disc and downloading from Games on Demand is that when you install from a disc, it is required that you have the physical copy of the game in the DVD tray to play. Games on Demand does not require the actual disc.

I know, I just got the vibe he was assuming you wouldn't be able to install from a disc anymore or something... Not having to have the disc in the tray is just another reason to download instead of buying the disc, but for me personally, I'd much rather have the physical copy.

i think crackdown (like a handful of other titles) has technical issues that keep it from being installed on the HDD...

not sure why that would change now... maybe b/c it's a MGS game and they can now cut out the retail and make more money, so it's worth it to update...

no shipping, pressing, or retail costs...

that should lower the price by atleast $5 (since bandwidth isn't free)

however i imagine gamestop would throw a fit if they charged any less...

I would never buy a downloadable game that is the same price as a retail copy.
