Xbox Live Video 101 (pretty pictures included) |
Ó
For those who are still wondering about the entire hullabaloo known as the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, then here's something that you might want to check out, as the friendly people over at Engadget have all obliged us with a short lesson on how the thing works. So, on with the lesson.
Of course, it all begins with the Media blade on your 360. If one would notice, the new tab "Movies and Movie Trailers" has been added to the range of choices, and selecting this tab will bring up a selection of downloadables, which in this case happens to be ATL and V for Vendetta. Selecting a title lets you see a short description of the movie, the rating, its length, as well as its cost in MS points for either its HD version or the Standard version (oddly enough, in this case, downloading the HD version gets you the standard version free). Still not sure if you want this download? Then there's a preview option which would allow you to view a short clip of the film.
Also, right before downloading, the user will be warned about the 14-day rental period, as well as how large the file is. From the pictures, the HD version of V for Vendetta is a whopping 6.07GB.
Care for some TV episodes instead? Then choose your channel, CBS in this instance, and choose from several titles that they have. Then, just pick which episode you want and start downloading. Easy as pie, right?
Of course, there are still some loose ends with this particular service which Microsoft needs to tie up, such as the pricing of the movies and episodes. Apparently, the prices that we see in the photos are merely placeholders and are yet to be finalized, so until any further announcements are made, the actual prices are still anyone's guess.
In the meantime, let's revel in the fact that the original Star Trek series is being remastered for HD viewing and will also be up for download on XBLVM soon enough. And THAT alone is enough to make some people like me patronize the service, no matter what Karakker has got to say about it.

sounds cool. Don't need to subscribe with anybody, just get on and rent. I like the idea however--just because i want to be an ass--how many of you guys are gonna salivate over this but happen to be the same terds who *****ed about blu-ray? hahaha, I'll come back to see how many hypocrites post later.
wow, renting movies? This is an excellent idea imo.
any idea when this will start?
how is it? i aint wasting 6gigabytes only to have it removed 2 weeks later we should be able to remove it when we please.
They've announced it will be released on Nov. 22nd - the 1 year "anniversary" of Xbox360. :)
just ask yourself how much does blockbuster, hol lywood video charge you for a dvd that is at most 480p for a 2 day rental? think about it before u complain at the moment no rental store offers HD movies unless its bluray or hddvd, here we have the option of getting hd content without the need to buy a player or an expensive disk. when u think about it 3$ a show is pretty good given 13 episodes for a season thats 39$ for an HD season pretty reasonable if u ask me. as far as movies go there is a 2 day and a 14 day rental if you didnt know, who rents movies for over 14 days anyway lol
@ sakura your absolutely right
I cant wait itll be sweettt.....bye bye blockbuster for me :)
after i buy the movie wil i be able to go back and download it again for free, after the rental ends???, this is a cool idea, saves the trouble of having to go somewhere to rent a movie, and no late fees!
Im for it...but I think indie films should be included like Ryuhei Kitamura's VERSUS...the best indie film made...
want to own it forever? attach your 360 to a DVR and own it forever... sure the quality will be downgraded, but look at it this way, you can convert it to WMV and watch it anytime as you please streaming from your PC... specially those UFC KTFO moments...
