Xbox Live Ratings - Image 1Straight from Major Nelson, the Xbox Live activity ratings have been retrieved, counted, and ranked for the week ending February 19, 2007. Please be reminded that these ratings cover Xbox Live in a global scale and that they span over both the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox.

Games have been ranked up to the top tens, including those full versions released on Xbox Live Arcade.

For the Xbox 360 category, the summit ends at Gears of War's feet. Being a best-seller for Epic Games and Microsoft, the Unreal 3 engine, EA-claims-"zero innovation strategy" game is still riding its own popularity wave. Coming up right behind it is Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, followed by the release version of RealTime World's Crackdown. Missing the third spot, Electronic Arts' Call of Duty 3 settles for the entry seat to the top three.

For Arcade, we've got Paperboy and family card game UNO ranked in that order, with Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 trailing behind. The Xbox's Top Live Games include Halo 2 (multiplayer most definitely) at the top seat, DICE and EA's Battlefield 2: Modern Combat at second and Madden NFL 07 holding on to third.

Major Nelson also points out that if the ratings from both the Xbox and Xbox 360 Top titles were combined, Gears of Wars would still reign supreme.

Gears will always be ahead of Halo 2

The difference between Gears and Halo is that in Gears you are Four in a team and its essential to work together and use of the headset is vital for good players,(this is also the advantage over 16/32,64 etc players) plus of course its amazing graphics make you want to always come back for more and this is why Halo 2 will never be as popular as Gears again.

re: Gears will always be ahead of Halo 2

you're forgetting Halo 3. If it were out right now, it would most definitely be the most popular game, so graphics don't matter too much, especially since H2 has been out for over a year, and it's still the top game for xbox!

re:Forgetting halo 3....

It would be hard to make the call that halo3 will be more popular. Im sure it will be fanatstic but Gears is very addidtive and very personal. Ive met heaps of buddies that i play with on a regular basis. Only happens through "GOW".

no

no no no no no NO!!!!! ever since h2 came out i have always played it to this day. Halo2 is more addicting. Gears of war, Online sucks, you can only 2 player multiplayer instead of 4, which sucks because you only have 1 player to play with and your friends cant play.

new games

new games will always pawn older games i remember people saying halo 2 will always be on top look what happened halo is not even in the top 10 maybe when bungie release those new maps for halo 2 we might see halo back in the top 10 or maybe at number one again anyway when halo 3 comes out it will pawn gears of war, I am all for the xbox cause as I don't like sonys approach to gaming but the only reason gears got so much praise is because there is nothing out there to compete with it, there will be a game that will even be better than gears and halo 3 the future will always be better than the past period.
