That's the best Halloween treat you can pick up for yourself, am pretty sure. The email making the official announcemnt said that the update to the console is mandatory and will be taking up some five to ten minutes for installation.

In case you did a double-take upon reading the word "mandatory", here's what it basically means: if you do not update, you will be denied access to Xbox Live, and consequently, any of its features. So really, it's not really a choice that you're privileged to make. It's either you do it, or you might as well consider your XBL account dead.

The update's release comes just three days before the nationwide launch of Kinect, which essentially is good time, because the udpate brings support for the new motion technology. Apart from that, it's also set to bring in an enhanced user interface, ESPN 3, Zune Music, Netflix search functionality and a new voice communications codec.

So literally, the Fall update is just a sleep away. Enjoy it!
