Xbox Live Experience dashboard update leaked, possibly running on modded Xbox 360s |
Writes Xhavok87 in his latest update related to the leak,
It has finally been done but NOTE, only modded systems at this point are able to do the install. The process is quite easy if you cannot figure it out but will not be released at this time. A fellow member here by the name of xg4m3r has discovered a path for modded consoles to install the update as you can see in the video above. Like I said in update 8 we are still working on this process to see if we can manage anything on retail consoles. We are not releasing anything at this time but more news is to come soon. Enjoy for tonight because tomorrow should be a whole other day! See you soon!
NOTE: Your Xbox 360 NEEDS to have the Infectus 2 Chip in the system for this work. Not just a modded FW hack the chip is required also. Sorry for the confusion!
Below is a video showing the reported hack in action. We'll try to get more updates on this bit of news as soon as it becomes available, but for now, stay tuned.

microsoft fails again to prevent crap from being leaked.
I hope they release it soon, and find a way to install on non-modded consoles...but then again if MS knows about this they may just bump up the release
Microsoft will not likely bump up the release just because some modchip users have it early. Modchip users already take risks with their hardware simply by installing the mod. It's likely that modchip users have a way to back out of this if it causes problems. Don't quote me on that, I don't follow 360 modding circles but it's probably possible.
Unmoded users don't have that kind of luxury. If MS bricks a bunch of 360s because they released the update early it will be another debacle on the order of the Red Ring of Death. This update isn't going to be released until it has had a full QA pass and been properly certified.
Frankly, I'm surprised mod users have access to this. I would have expected MS to keep this of the "Live" servers until it was officially released. My only guess is that there could be some official Beta testers or satellite offices needing to test it out. Who knows...
m$ doesn't have a history of moving releases forward just because of a leak.
users who are capable of using this ARE capable of downgrading their dash.
if you were able to apply this without a hardware mod, there would be no *publicly* known way of undoing it.
if anything the leak probably came from the totally separate xbox live dev/testing network.
360 updates are stored on either memory cards or hdd. so getting outside the trusted environment is a piece of cake, just pull the files with a pc transfer kit.
If thats the final thing then there its pretty bare looking, its just a few slides with a big empty background.
That's pretty much what the dashboard now is. I mean, I'm sure what we see above is without a "theme" so it looks pretty bare.
I know it sounds dumb, but one of my biggest beefs with the 360 is the boring and outdated dashboard look. I'm looking forward to this update to see what all it entails.
you can download dashboard updates from PC.
i was just illustrating how easy it is to leak a dash update, i wasn't trying to inform people of how to find regular/official updates.
reminds me of the Sony PS3's XMB layout... with pictures... way to go for originality Microsoft.
Though it adopts similar navigation as XMB, the actual visual layout looks more like Windows Media Center for Vista/XP.
