Xbox Live error crippled GoW?

GoW

Yesterday, we told you that there was a problem in Xbox Live's matchmaking aspect which prevented most of you guys from playing online. Now that the problem is already fixed according to the Major himself, gaming website Aeropause reports that the game most affected by the matchmaking problem is none other than...you guessed it, Gears of War.

This claim isn't surprising since the third-person shooter has consistently lorded the Xbox Live Activity Charts. But with this problem exposed, people are beginning to wonder if GoW could keep up the great performance given that when the problem was still being remedied, Xbox Live was causing disconnections with the game. This disabled the ability of players to hack away on co-op online single player games or multiplayer games.

But then again, Xbox Live has been operating for quite some time now and a few hiccups along the way is somewhat excusable. In parting the Aeropause report said that "Xbox Live is excellent, but disabling an entire community due to error should hopefully push Microsoft to rethink how Live phones home in the future." Do you agree with that or do you have other ideas in mind?

» I think it's fine...

I didn't even notice as the day/night it went down was when I decided to take a break from GoW and play something else for a change

It can't be that major, if it just happened after 2 months of GoW being live....although maybe it had to reach a certain saturation point before it happened.

It sound like live uses a centralized system to process all requests, and that's why all games wouldn't work, even if GoW caused it. In this case the fix is just more/bigger/faster servers....so it really shouldn't be a problem...

It's funny, this happens in WoW ALL THE TIME, not just weekly maintenance (which is a pain in itself) but just random servers going down for a day, which distrupts 10's of thousands of people....but no one makes a stink of it, and this is for somthing that costs 5X as much as XBL every year.....so suck it up, it wasn't even down for 24hrs and probably wont happen again untill halo 3, in which case MS will be more prepared and probably throw extra servers online ahead of time....

» accidents happen

when i first saw this story, the only thing disappointing is that the problem was yet to be fixed. that said, it can be expected for unknown problems to occur and the only thing unacceptable is each day that goes by with the problem unresolved.
