Xbox Live Avatars to get Gears of War armors |
Ó
Now that I've made you click out of curiosity, you can now see that Epic Games is throwing two Avatar armors into Xbox Live - the COG and the Locust armors. If you have a bone to pick with the Locust Armor not looking too locust-ey, Bleszinsky pointed out that Microsoft doesn't want inhuman-looking costumes, so they had to work around that little rule.
These will both be added upon the next dashboard update, which is reportedly coming "soon."

That's soo cute.
For one of the many corporations to call the Wii a gimmick they're really going all out in trying to one up the Wii.. Avatars, motion sensing, and if you're picky enough even the how strict they are with Avatars being appropriate (funny because of how many violent games they allow)..
You're making a strawman argument in that nobody has specifically mentioned the avatar aspect of the Wii to be gimmicky. In fact, I will argue that the integration of individual, strong virtual identities has played a central role in Microsoft's (as well as everybody else's) online strategies. Microsoft gave gamers a sense of ownership of their identities through Achievement.
The "gimmick" argument in regard's to Nintendo's system has always revolved around the system's lack of competitive graphics and ridiculous controller that was promised to us to be the most innovative thing since 3d.
"It will be perfect for fps games!" Turns out it's not so perfect.
"You'll be able to use it like a lightsaber or sword!" Turns out that means, when you swing it, your character does a preprogrammed swing.
I've mentioned it before, but I'm not a big believer in motion-sensing gimmicks, and they really should be limited to what TrackIR does for simulation games, but, even so, it's not a necessity.
As for the appropriateness . When you sign up for LIVE, it's supposed to be rated for just about everybody. When you buy a game, it's rated for a specific age group and up. There really is a logical divide between what can be permitted in one and not another. The argument is akin to saying that violent movies are okay to show in preschool and kindergarten because as a society we are very violent.
That sounds an awful lot like Nintendo to me. Not the avatar thing but the stupid limitations on things for seemingly no reason. No inhuman looking costumes? Boo I say. Theres no limitations on Playstation Home, but its a step up from Wii avatars imo.
i bet you have to pay for them
You have to pay for clothing in Home as well
"Theres no limitations on Playstation Home"
WRONG!!!
The limitation is that you have to own the ps3 to use it.
Atleast in Home you actually get to do stuff with your avatar.
You're an idiot sublime.
Yeah, because sitting on a virtual couch in a virtual room is just AWESOME. Home is sooo worth the 4GB of space it takes up, because even though you live in your parents basement you can pretend like you have a life.
And FYI, you can do things with your Xbox Live avatar as well, you can replace the generic character in a lot of arcade games with your own avatar. So while you're waiting in line to go "bowling" I can be playing REAL games.
Home seems to be the only place where you can use your avatar in Sony's model. I've yet to see them used anywhere else really.
who ever said home is for playing games...its for social networking or however you like to call it
I better get them both for free, for completing Gears 1 and 2 campaigns on Insane mode.
something about those avatars that doesnt seem right...
