Xbox Live Arcade to get MAME and SEGA games? |
Ó
An anonymous Microsoft worker has revealed that MAME and SEGA games are making their way to the Xbox Live Arcade. The tipster stated that the XBLA is going to "smash Nintendo's Virtual Console to pieces" with the help of MAME. Microsoft might be releasing a legal MAME emulator where gamers can pay to get their favorite retro game packs. The source also mentioned that SEGA will be hopping on the XBLA bandwagon, although he didn't say what exactly they would be bringing. All of this is strictly rumors just for now, but it seems like it would be a great business move for all parties involved. The XBLA has brought in loads of money, especially from titles like Geometry Wars, so I don't see why SEGA or MAME would seem unreasonable. 34 Jumps PSP homebrew - MHUSPEED v3

I must say a MAME emulator and a Sega emu on Xbox would be awesome, But it would take Microsoft a LOOOOONG time to gain rights to ALL of those ROMs (13 Gigs to be exact ;)
But i dont think MAME and Sega will beat NES, SNES etc etc etc...
-ViruZ-
Not gonna happen....
If this happens that means the MAME development team are sellouts! I've been in the MAME scene for years and the team has never been in this for money. I don't see them selling out to Microsoft...
Dazz
This is actualy one of the more believable rumors I have heard. I know that live arcade is very popular among developers, and I am sure sega is one that would jump at the chance to re-release all of their old 16-bit games in this way.
An arcade emulator along the lines of MAME is not out of the question either, as the whole idea of XBLA is bringing back old arcade games anyway. It does not nessesarily have to be the MAME emulator either. Microsoft could just produce their own emulator software. Heck they have already produced an Xbox Emulator, and that was probably a lot more difficult.
On what planet is the mame set only 13gigs??? i have the complete .94 mame set and it is 10dvds full clocking in at around 40gigs. and the genesis set isnt even part of that.
The microsoft version will be better then mame.. look at how mame is coded to be slow in the first place..games that are 15 years old run slowly on high end pc's thanks to mames sluggish code.
get it off another foriegn fan forum ey? ;)
AaronGiles never sold Mame to Bill Gates. Beside Bill Gates don't know what to do with Mame source anyway. He be going duh!!!
...the only thing that will probably run without frame rate issues on the tripple core 360. Very dissappointing.

they would hire someone better to recode a much better emu and it would operate at full speed. All they need to do is call ti something else, not mame, and they dont have to pay anyone anyhting except the people who made the games, this is as good as done.
what they meant was that there will be an arcade emulator.. mame has nothing to do with it and aaron giles is a douche that changes the romset every week so a little 2k file that does nothing will be incorporated in the emulation to make it more "accurate" instead of playable.
Well, I for one already think it's gonna be way better than what Nintendo has to offer. While Nintendos is strictly older titles that they have created, XBLA is much more widespread. Capcom, Konami, Sega, Atari, etc. As for the whole mame though, don't see that much of a big deal about it. I wouldn't think they would need them to emulate older games.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is comming to XBL. Cant wait for that!
Balls to any ganesis games, all I want is the original Sonic and possibly Alex Kid
play the sonic mega collection from xbox on the 360 so dont buy sonic buy the whole collection
MAME belongs to Nicola, not Aaron. Developers at MAMEworld already said this was fake.
If Microsoft does something similar, they can't call it name. They'll just run a custom emulator and that's that.
Hello.
I meant to say they can't call it MAME, not name. That would be a pretty funny name huh? haha.
!
not only is that mad cliche
but i also dont get it, how would making money on the rights to your own ***** be selling out.... are videogames all open source and *****
no sir i think not, now im in YOUR scene
Nintendo isnt only releasing first party titles they will be releasing almost(if not all) the games in the (s)nes, 64 library that includes MANY games made by capcom and konami TMNT 4 TIT FTW!!!!11111111111
I don't think MS is going to release a software that almost nobody is able to use legally. Who of us all has ever spent money on licenses for old arcade games useable for MAME?!
There are more than 5000 games actually playable with MAME, a lot of them are made by companies that don't exist anymore. WHY SHOULD A COMPANY LIKE MS TRY TO GET ALL THESE LICENSES BACK?? Remember: They wanna present there own system in a good light by showing the technical quality of there product with NEW games! Not with 25-30 year old stuff!
Just read the news of retro games on Xbox 360 live arcade - http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/galaga/news.html?page=1&sid=6147269
If it is not MAME then what are these 'exact' arcade emulations running?
