3 Red Lights

After all the frustration, the agonizing, the days of staring at the ring of death, the stalled games and the unnecessary expenses, Xbox 360 owners who have long been airing out their grievances regarding their problems with their consoles will finally get some recompense. This is because Microsoft has FINALLY come out and acknowledged the hardware problems of their units, particularly the ones that were sold at launch.

After finally admitting that the launch units were indeed plagued with problems regarding hardware failure, Microsoft noted that what pointed them in this direction was the "higher than usual repair rate" among launch 360s. And so Microsoft is now offering extended warranties to Xbox 360 owners whose units were manufactured before January 1, 2006, therefore extending the warranty from 90 days to a full year. This service will be considered as an "out of warranty repair" and will be free of charge.

On the other hand, people who have units which fall within that criteria but have already paid $ 129 to have the launch units repaired will receive refunds. The only ones that will NOT be covered by this offer will be Xbox 360s manufactured on or after January 1, 2006.

This is a complete turn-around from Microsoft's previous statements that the return rates of launch 360s were only between 3% to 5%. However, the company still cannot explain the exact reason why these units are having problems in the first place.

Anyone who has a broken system that falls within the criteria stated above can call 1-800-4MY-XBOX for details on how to avail of either the refund or the warranty.

Well thats a fat lot of use to thos in the Uk as we get a 1 year warranty as standard, its the law! So will we get an extended warranty? I very much doubt it! You could argue that my point is stupis cuz we have a longer warranty, but why should americans get extras and we dont?

Its a shame sony didnt take as much care with their customers with the PS2. How many people ended up with disc read errors just after the warranty expired?? Im now on my 3rd PS2, but luckily i took out an extended warranty. It ran out recently and once again, i got the dreaded DRE but my knowledge has increased over the years so i managed to repair it myself, not that it will extend the life of my console by much!

I just called up yesterday and the dude tried to make me pay $139 bucks for repair, so I was like "I just recently read m$ is fixing consoles manufactured before the 1st for free and mine was manfactured before the first" so he put me on hold and 5 minutes later said "sir, we'll have a box out to you in 3 to 5 days, and I was like YES!!!!!!!!!!!

all i know is...............

I'm happy that the launch consoles were defective. It actually made me mad that there were a bunch of jobless gaming f.a.g.s lined up in front of best buy 3 days before the launch date just so they could get their hands on a console. What a bunch of losers. Serves them right.

well i am from the uk and we should have the same rights thay have admited to the faulty units so infact thay have sold us faulty units in the uk to so microsoft can not reject us as you could sue for selling you a faulty unit that does not work so we in the uk can get the same help

haha yeh sony would never do this.. i.e. release a *****ty buggy console knowingly.

Funny how it took M$ almost a year to admit that their launch console was infact bugged and riddles with problems. Also funny how they said that only a small insignificant amount of consoles have problems at the start of the year, when its quite obvious that a substantial amount of epeople have had some sort of problem with their consoles.

Thanks M$ for lying again, and thanks xbox150 fanbois for being M$'s guinee pigs. hahahahhahaha

PS3 FTW!!!

» They are replacing my launch x360 for free. (thank god!)

To all of you to love to comment about how much you hate 360 or want to talk trash about the ps3; SHUT UP!

I got a launch 360 day 1 (hitachi drive. I had not had any problems with it until DR, Saints Row, and Test Drive. 9 months had gone by with no problems at all,... then these new proc intensive games come out and the thing freezes all the time now. I can't even play live games without a freeze.

It took 9 months to figure out because the software was not demanding enough on the hardware. Now that I realize my 360 can't play the latest games (and is starting to act really screwy) I am way past the 90 day return policy and they wanted to charge $140. I said forget that and started to think of other options like fan mods etc.

Then just the other day they start replacing the faulty units. AWESOME! My return kit is now on the way free of charge like it should be. They sold me a faulty product; It can't play the current 360 games. I am happy they decided to be fair about it and only had wanted them to do this from the start.

X360 is a great machine (and if you don't think so get the @#% out of the 360 threads. The games are good, the price isn't bad (and you can pick and choose what you want to upgrade), and the live is awesome. The dpad kind of sucks I would like a new one of those, but other than that it's a great machine. It's been out for almost a year and I have been enjoying the 720p joy. Plus it's going to play almost all of the new games, there are barely any PS3 exclusive titles to warrant a launch purchace. (ill probably get one anyways cuz im a gamez freek)

Anyhow, thanks for covering the defect issuses and thank goodnes Micro$oft is actually replacing them for free. I personally am amazed, and will get the 2yr warranty this time and for sure on the PS3.

The End

ummm no. The PS2s stopped working no matter WHAT position you had it in. Sony didn't reconigze that they sent out *****ty *****ed up consoles till they were sued.

And(if you can...hopefully you are older then 12) remember the playstation1? You had to turn the damn thing UPSIDE down for it to work after a few hours.

amazing there are sony fanboys....really amazing.
