XCM Hot Rock - Image 1All these cases of the XBox 360 going kaput have Xbox modders scrambling to find ways to avoid getting victimized by the Ring of Death. Modders, like Team Xtender, are researching on how they can further improve the Xbox 360's cooling system, which unfortunate Xbox 360 owners and modders blame as the main cause of most Xbox 360 malfunction.

If you're always worried whether your Xbox is getting too hot (and eventually getting toasted), this case mod is for you: featuring the XCM 360 Hot Rock Case, which lets users know how hot the Xbox 360 is, without having to place a thermometer on the box.

The XCM Xbox 360 case will change color according to its temperature. The temperature and corresponding color are outlined below:
  • Below 29℃ - Orange light
  • 30-31℃ - Purple light
  • 32-35℃ - Light blue light
  • 36-39℃ - Green light
  • 40-43℃ - Blue light
  • 44-47℃ - Red light
  • Over 48℃ - Red light flashing
Not only will it make your dimly4-lit room flash nifty bright colors, but its also quite useful in letting you know when your Xbox 360 is running at a dangerous 48℃ so that you can turn it off before the Ring of Death takes over your beloved machine.

....

Bahahaha

I usually hate ignorant Sony fans and everything that they say and do, but these two comments were actually funny. That'd be awesome if electronics could heat up to OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAND, then I could say it without somebody thinking I'm crazy "Vegeta, what does the indicator say about its temperature level?" "It's OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAND!"

Well...

That's farely low actually as my orig xbox run 40-50C at the dashboard, so it probably hits 60+ running games....and if you actually know anything about running cpu's and overclocking you would know these are not extreme temperatures...especially since there are few parts getting over 48, and those are probably the cpu + gpu directly...

Who the hell choose the colors?

Shouldn't it be like. Cyan, Blue, Purple, Green, Orange, Red Cold >----------------------------------> Hot Maybe a bit nit picky but..... Orange, the color of molten lava, is the coldest???

HOTT!!!!!!!

MY sisters 360 is on it like the heater in her huge house
by - 2007-06-30 22:08:00
Exactly

But the guy above you makes a good point, won't the thing always be flashing red while playing games? That'd get really annoying. And I doubt it ever goes below 30 - 35 C, so half the colors you'll never even see, so this thing is basically a waste of money.

lol

Heh, yet another cool innovation to let Xbox users know that their machine is near its ill-fated doom. My brother uses his x360 to warm up his room. It's like an electric heater!

more sense than wii version

this mod seems to make more sense than the version that was released for the wii last month, though my nwii (ennui, get it?) gets pretty warm in wiiconnect24 mode. so much so that i've disabled that function until i buy any actual wc24 games.

ssss

or you could ditch the *****ing xclamps and 12v mod it, then it doesnt rly matter.... keep it cool, be preemptive and tear ur clamps out, anyone can do it, it just takes a little planni ng and effort if you arent a techno-geek or gearhead, patience goes a long ways, cause yes MS made a *****TY!!!!!!!! decision with this, i hate it, HOWEVER, now that its behing me and fixed, i love the damn thing, id rather have a fixable machine with a lot of great games, than a working machine and no games.... but thats me, i dont mind doing a little work and learning something ya know!

...

It's embarrising that this machine can only handle up to 48 degrees celsius. I really like this machine, but like the Ipod it goes down at some point and i don't want that, so im gonna wait in the near future to see what happens...

.

Or, you could just ventilate your entertainment system or leave it in the open.
by - 2007-07-01 14:02:35
Or,

You could just do it in your head. It's pretty easy to guess (48 C + about 110 - 120 F). It's also not hard to do the exact formula in your head, or run it through MS calc in ten seconds on your PC To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, you do 9/5 (1.8) x the temperature in C + 32. So for 48C, 1.8 x 48 + 32 + 118 degrees F
