Xbox 360 slim shuts down to prevent RROD? |

It looks like Microsoft has added an extra trick for the newly slimmed down version of the Xbox 360 to prevent the console from the infamous red ring of death. Instead of the seeing the usual three flashing red lights that indicates your system is doomed, the new hardware now displays a warning message that notifies owners of a forced shutdown to protect the console from "insufficient ventilation."

yeah.. so instead of fixing the problem they just ignore it and make it where you must stop playing your games for a few hours.

Good thing their playing it safe... I'm sure not everyone who owns a 360 goes through forums/reads gaming news. So i'm sure plenty gotten rrod from most likely stacking things on it or stuffing it in a very cramped space.

Everyone I know with a 360 has had rrod at least once, none of these people are children (meaning 24+), all looked after their 360 and all had adequate spacing around the console.
It is a real problem caused by bad design. Dont kid yourself that it was in anyway consumers fault.
I mean its even going to happen to their newest design.. why do people like you feel the need to excuse their shit work and continue to support them?
M$ see that people will still buy their broken console (and even be dumb enough to think up excuses for the reason it breaks) so why should the bother fixing it.. understand?
blind fucking loyalty imo!

My friend has gone through 3 Xboxes.
There's really no telling whether an Xbox will RRoD or not. It seems pretty damn random.

People who are rabid loyal fanboi are to blame here, if people STOPPED buying x-boxs THEY"D FIX IT cause sales would kill them.. BUT thanks to the RROD (Which i think is a conspiracy made by MS) This makes them their money.
Yea... maybe they made it "Less likely" to happen.. but they're not gonna eliminate the problem all together.. that'd be money out of their pockets for the holidays

Big Fail indeed, they didn't fix the ROD, but instead will tell you to shutdown because you are about to get the ROD.
RROD is still there, hahahaha

Yeah... about that... IMO they didn't really slim it down... I mean at least from the articles I've read they really just redesigned it rather then slimming it.

Seriously, though this is like when I was 13 and my parents telling me that I've played for too long and need to stop. Only MGS4 tells me when I need to rest.

Seriously.... M$ should fix the problem more than providing a software alert on the issue. If they were going to do that, it would be wise to push it out as a dashboard update. I just see more & more gamers get madder at M$ than being helpful.

I would expect the PS3 and Wii to have exactly the same temperature monitoring features in case of blocks or fan failures. If they don't then they're going to cook and die.
Finally, RROD isn't caused by overheating, it's caused by solder becoming brittle and shattering through long term power cycling. In actual fact overheating the console can fix the problem as it causes the solder to melt and reflow!
