Xbox 360Microsoft's just released an update to the Xbox 360's retail sales figures along with a forecast for the current fiscal year. The company expects to ship more than 10 million Xbox 360 consoles and a library of 160 games by the time the holidays roll around. By the end of their fiscal year in June 2007, 13-15 million consoles are forecasted to be shipped worldwide.

Microsoft also gave out some info on peripherals and game sales. The Xbox 360's accessory attach rate held steady for the 4th month in a row at 2.9 accessory units sold per console. Meanwhile, software attach rate rose to 4.6 games per console this month. All the preceding info are based on this month's NPD Group data.

The Xbox 360 also had 4 of the 10 top selling titles across consoles:
Some pretty impressive numbers right there. If this keeps up, Microsoft will definitely have an edge over its competitors in the holiday sales wars. Speaking of which, you might want to check out an earlier article where Microsoft declares that they will own Christmas.

» Hmmm

I can't tell if they're not changing their predictions so they don't look bad, or just because they don't need to. Microsoft isn't stupid, and they know more about this than anyone on this site, but we'll see. I can kind of see how they can sell 5 million more by Christmas, but there would have to be a big rush. Otherwise I don't think it's gonna happen. But if they're confident they can, well, we'll see what happens.

Then again, does Microsoft really care whether they win or not? This is a company with near-unlimited funding, what's a couple hundred millions to them? Eventually they get most of it back anyway through software sales and being able to make the console cheaper and cheaper as the years go by. And if they keep taking market share at the rate they are taking it with each new console, they will inevitably win at some point.

Speaking of software, 4.6 games per console is very impressive! Does anybody know the record?

» 4.6 games ratio?

Umm, is that 4.6 games ratio per console including the cheap XBLA games? If so, it's kinda innacurate.....

» only 4.6

Hmm will I guess I help it get that high I suppose. When I bought my 360 I got 9 games for it. Mm-hmm but I saved just the same amount for the wii! So when it comes out so I guess I'll be getting 14 or so ^^

» 10 million, get real MS.

The only way they will sell 10 million by the time holidays come around is if they drop the price.

Since thats not gonna happen, they might ship 10 million units, but selling them is totally different.
