Benheck is back with his latest creation - the portable Xbox 360, now in a tough Pelican case to protect the console from bumps and bruises! Check out some of the pics he posted on his site, along with new demo vid:

This unit includes:

  • 17″ widescreen LCD monitor.
  • Built-in speakers.
  • Power cable compartment.
  • Reworked top-loading DVD drive.
  • Removable hard drive.
  • Ethernet and USB ports.
Ben Heckendorn reveals that he's had a lot of requests overseas from servicemen and women, so he decided to whip one up for them. Since it wasn't built on consignment, it's up for grabs! You can email him through this link for more info. He's also interested in larger-scale possibilities if anyone has ideas or cash for it.

» uhhh

u cant just put the 360 in a bag or sumthing? lol... if it had portable power source sure... but without that, its jsut like ur carrying a 360, except in the brief case...

» Benefit

well then I guess the benefit of this is basically have the LCD screen you wouldn't need to hook up to another screen if your at a buddies house and want two different screen while playing on live

» Wifi Compatibility.

Add it and I'll buy that *****.

Hah.

And make one for the PS3, that would make me nut twice.

» also

the modified top loading DVD drive sucks because the XBOX has to be off to insert or replace discs.

Ben Heck FAILS.

» ps3? no no

its not gonna work for the ps3 because as it already is, all the stuff is packed in the black casing unlike the 360 where it has room for air flow.

» someday ill make a portable ps3

because ben heck's portable ps3 is not that great.

and only if sony dont beat me (ps3 slim + 3rd party add on lcd).

maybe a better portable xbox 360 too

if the price of a basic xbox 360 dips below 100 bucks.

not to be critical, but that portable PS3 did suck.

From the upside down disc loading to the fact that he didn't alter the PS3 in any way to make it lighter or more compact. Plus, he didn't even finish the how-to, but it's easy to figure out how he did it.

step 1- remove stock case

step 2- move USB ports and extend power cables

step 3- re-arrange power supply and blu ray

step 4- put in case, which was made using million dollar tooling he has easy access to.

The only thing done right was the case, and with the tooling he has access to, it isn't that great an accomplishment.

Once I get my hands on a cheap PS3 with the 65nm RSX, I'm going to try making my own portable PS3 that is actually SMALLER. You know, actually portable.
