Xbox 360 mod: HDMI and Digital Optical sound in Premium |
Ó
Gamer Chad Ledford believes that there are many like him who purchased the Xbox 360 Premium instead of the Elite because of financial constraints. However, Ledford argues over at his personal website that this shouldn't prevent Premium owners from having HDMI and Digital Optical surround sound experience.
First and foremost, you have to take note that you cannot have both the HDMI and AV component cables plugged in at the same time.
The reason for this is that because the slots are so close to one another, not to mention the fact that the component cables are rather thick. Chad Ledford proposes this simple trick:
- First, purchase an HDMI cable for less than US$ 10
- Second, remove the plastic casing from the standard A/V cable. I did this by wedging a knife between the slit in the plastic casing and separating the two sides.
- Simple solution - cheap fix.

Please note this is for those that have a screen HDMI enabled but no digital input. It is also for those that have an older reciever that excepts digital input but no HDMI. It is a very workable and inexpensive workaround.
For those with HDMI screen and HDMI receivers that have the non HDMI 360 do not worry. The component video cable is still a superior signal than that of HDMI. HDMI is a very useful connection and the newer HDMI receivers give conversion that is generally better than that onboard solution in the newer screens. Use component out to your HDMI receiver along with the toslink optical cable for the sound. (optical cable will need to be purchased) From the reciever use the HDMI out to your screen and enjoy the highest picture quality along with digital sound.
