Xbox 360 is not dead, says Microsoft AU PR Manager Cidade - Image 1According to a survey reported just a couple of days ago, the Xbox 360 is finding it hard to survive in Australia due to main competitors PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

One retailer even went on record and said that Microsoft's console is dead. However, all these statements were countered by Microsoft Australia PR Manager of the Entertainment & Devices Division Mariana Cidade.

The official explained that they are actually in a good shape for this year:

We are happy with where we are in the market right now. WeÂ’re significantly ahead of where we planned to be this financial year, and selling well both on the software and hardware side.

Focusing on the software side of things, Cidade added that this year is going to be big for Microsoft Australia. Aside from yet-to-be revealed big titles, the public relations manager provided this list of games:
When asked to comment on what the above mentioned retailer said, Mariana Cidade commented that they are actually enjoying a large base of retailer support. “Our retailers are excited about our current and upcoming offers," she added.

So basically Microsoft says that their system isn't dead.

Sure, sounds like an objective opinion....

# 360 has been around for 2 years...lavino 2008-04-08 07:27
Ok may be not in AU for 2 years but whoever wanted one would have got it. Whoever didn't want one wouldn't sudden jump on it. I see that the system is getting mature with a pretty solid audience (YES! those who are aware of the RROD and might even got one but still play and buy a 2nd or 3rd 360 because they like the system better). Yes I know the PS3 is more stable, less RROD, free network but the choice is my... however I don't live in AU =P

# The 360 won't die anytime soon, yetLazyboy256 2008-04-08 08:36
There are still tons of people still supporting the console, even those like lavino said who'd go out and get another 360 if one fails on them.

Also considering it has people tearing up Xbox LIVE on Halo 3 (I always see 400k on daily), COD4, GeOW, and other games, and that developers still haven't tapped the full power of the 360 yet, we'll be seeing more for it.

Though I expect the 360 to be around for at least 2 more years, Microsoft is going to have some serious competition from Sony. With the release of the Home Beta soon, and the in-game XMB and communication sometime this summer/fall, people may start comparing the two online services as they will become neck-to-neck. Games like Resistance, MotorStorm, plus Killzone 2, LittleBig Planet, and FFXIII will also ensure sales for the PS3, creating competition with Microsoft

Well, anyways, the 360 ain't dead yet.

Wow. I would have never thought that... as when I go to basically any store in my area, there is more shelving and space for 360 games. Which I thought would mean, more games for more people...
