HD DVDMicrosoftÂ’s Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is now available in stores across the UK. As a special bait, er, treat the new add-on will come with an early-bird bundle. For a limited time only, the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player comes with Peter Jackson's "King Kong" (the film not the game) on HD DVD and the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player offers up to six times higher resolution than DVD, and all Xbox 360 consoles have the ability to output native resolution 1080p games and movies. With the add-on, the Xbox 360 game console also doubles as a home theatre unit.

"The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is the best high-definition movie experience and value on the market," according to Richard Teversham, EMEA Director of Marketing and Platform, Xbox. "The reviews, the word of mouth and the consumer response have all been crystal clear - HD DVD is the format of choice. We're not forcing movie technology on game players but are instead letting them choose how to personalise their experiences. If they want HD DVD, there's no better value out there."

And by "no better value out there" he means about £129.99 (US$ 257.00).

Wrong Wrong

The drive is not out today, its all been speculation. I work in the games industry [manager http://www.swallowgames.co.uk] and we havent even been offered any on preorder from games distribution companies yet. I'm sceptical about it coming out even before the new year. but we may be lucky. The ones seen on ebay are most probably ones from the US and maybe region locked. Just keep your eyes open. lala

If its not released today, how can i have ordered (and received) 2 PAL drives today from Game.co.uk? That, and the Microsoft Press release stating a 1st December launch.

It definately came out today

I received mine today from Game, so it's release is today. However, I have a friend who wanted to order one last week and everywhere he asked they said they'd be sold out until the end of the year due to pre-orders. He ended up importing one from Canada.

Oh yeah

Forgot to mention too. HD-DVD doesn't have region coding so you can import the drive without any problems, you just need to switch out the US figure 8 cable for a UK one.

Got mine!

Got mine from Currys this morning! Game was a waste of time, even though I pre-ordered in store, they told me this morning instore that no store was getting them, only online orders. Hey, at least I was lucky enough to get the last 1 of 5 they had in Currys
