One Voice - Image 1When Bill Gates categorically mentioned that he wanted Vista and Xbox 360 to provide users with "further connected experience", it seems that everybody paid attention and wanted to follow his lead. Probably one of the first companies to make such a move is One Voice Technologies Inc. when it announced its Media Center Communicator.

If you are not quite familiar with One Voice, it is actually a voice solutions provider both for the telecom and interactive multimedia markets. It focuses on giving consumers the option to send messages, purchase products, get information, and control devices just by using their voices. Regarding the new product, President and CEO of One Voice Technologies Dean Weber comments,

Imagine walking into your entertainment room and simply saying, for example; Xbox Play U2 or Xbox Play American Idol, and your Xbox immediately starts playing that content. With our technology you can control both the main Windows Vista computer along with controlling up to five Xbox 360 game consoles using voice commands.

Accordingly, in case you own more than one Xbox 360, the Media Center Communicator allows users to name each one of them uniquely. So if you have five units and named one "QJ", you can instead say, "QJ Play Conan O' Brien". And it does what you tell it to do. Anyway, pricing and the availability of the product is yet to be announced.

In case you're wondering what other features Media Center Communicator has, here are the few remarkable ones:
  • Simple to use voice commands with no voice training required
  • High accuracy with wide range of accents
  • Voice commands for Xbox 360
  • Play MP3 or Apple iTunes music using voice commands
  • PC-to-Phone calling using Skype to anywhere worldwide
  • Home automation for setting thermostats, lighting, security cameras and much more
  • Read and send email
  • View photos and photo slideshows
  • Create your own custom voice macros to launch websites and applications
  • Works with Media Center DVD players (Sony and Niveus)
  • USB microphone included

That's pretty sweet. It's amazing they keep making the 360 better in completely new ways.

xbox 360 sucks, ps3 rules

» yeah right

I'd have to disagree. I own both, the 360 beats it hands down. Online features are much better on the 360. The PS3 can only download 1 thing at a time, you can't do anything while it's downloading, and if it gets interrupted you have to start it over. The 360 has a 10 spot queue that runs in the background and autoresumes if it's shut off or otherwise interrupted.

Also, in-game chat and many other features the 360 has available when you press the guide button don't exist on the PS3. The PS3 has an exit game, shut off console, and shut off controller option. Lame.

As far as downloading is concerned, the Xbox360 had the very same issue during launch. And it took them months to get it to multi-task.

As far as the voice control goes, if its anything like windows Vista, then it still needs a ton of work.

I have been using it since beta and have the full retail version and it may be around 50% accurate. You have to talk in a uniform tone, speed and be very clear.

Anything like a change in tone, speed or an accent will drop the accuracy dramatically.

Voice control sucks as it is. It would be alot faster to just use a controller to launch something then to request the application multiple times.

» ***** off, troll

get the ***** out, you retarded little troll! if 'ps3 rules' why bother reading and wasting your time on 360 related stuff. 360 FTW! Now, GTFO!

» This sucks

Doesn't this kinda eliminate all the people who don't have their Xbox near their PC? I'm not gonna yell between floors to make it do something I could do in half the time with the controller. Unless you can plug the mic into a USB port on the 360 and it'll work, but I doubt it would because I think that would require some kind of software to be installed on the 360, which isn't possible.

Well that means absolutely nothing at all.

So let me get this, you willing to be stupid enough to slowly speak into the microphone, pause between every single action, and have a high probability that you have to repeat commands and have a high probability that the voice control will make a mistake.

You obviously have no standard way of living. If Voice control was good enough, we would be using it more.

Universal gamer tag so I can always stay connected with my friends. I can see when they come online, and can see what they have been playing, I can see their game achievements and high scores and try to bet them. I can see what game they are currently playing and send them a message and say "Hey how you going in Gears of war? Do you need some help in Co-Op?". He can send me a game invite, and bang, I'm in the game with him with full voice support. I can even chat to other friends that aren't even in the game I'm in. With the invitation system I can jump in with anyone of my friends within seconds by accepting or receiving a gaming invite. When I'm finished gaming online and close the game I'm in, my download queue will resume my queued downloads so I can play the latest Crackdown demo later tonight.

MS have truely spoil 360 gamers. Vietone can't you see how brilliant that is? That's the future of gaming.

I think it is a new kind of voice technology nothing that is currently on the pc vietone and you know no one even cares what you say you know why because in your eyes everything about the xbox is negative and don't get me wrong I sometimes get a little carried away with being a xbox fanboy, but you take it to whole new levels of fanboyism saying everything is negative about xbox and playstation 3 the best thing ever and whatever playstation does not have that the xbox have playstation is going to eventually have it and its going to be better, oh please, it remains to be seen if sony is going to do all the work microsoft has done because it is not fair to compare but the fact is right now xbox has playstation 1 up in everything, games, not graphics, online, price and features, bluray is not needed and if you want it that bad there is no need to complain because if someone can afford a playstation 3 they can afford an xbox 360 premium with the hddvd drive and the wi fi adapter because that is $700, $100 more than the premium playstation 3 which is cost $600 and that is another fact and with playstation 3 you are forced to buy everything at one time with xbox you can buy when you want, xbox wins again. L = laughing

and even though I am a xbox fanboy (i got my reasons) I recognize that playstation is a good system it's just that in my opinion I feel xbox is a better overall system, and has better first party titles than playstation that's all.

Vietone is to busy justifying his $600 purchase, and needs to spread as much fud as he can. What he really doesnt get, is not one person here takes him serious, unless they are new, then he gets flamed. Like this last post where he claims to know the ins and outs of voice control. He posts here to try and look smart, how ever desperate that is, then fails misserably.
