The Microsoft Corporation has issued a statement that the newly unveiled Xbox 360 Elite model was not introduced to replace existing Core and Premium versions of the game console. The focus, they say, is still broad enough for everyone to enjoy.Elite features a new HDMI port, a huge 120GB hard drive and some minor accessories and customizations which should boost the performance of the game machine. A degree of anxiety in the game community was quickly checked by Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb when he said "the 20GB is still a sweet spot, we're still going to make sure that's what we're optimised for."
Owners of the Core and Premium packages can also upgrade to the 120GB hard drive without having to buy the US$ 479 Elite model. All they have to do is buy the silver US$ 179 120GB hard drive and they're all set.
The Xbox 360 Elite comes in a black body and is currently taking Japan by storm. It will be in North American stores come April 29, 2007.

LMAO! Xbox 360 is crashing in Japan not 'taking it by storm'. The Elite to my knowledge is not even out or we would have had more pictures of it by now.

MS is out of their mind.
So people have to take their $400 premium, and since almost everyone I know fills up their 20GB soo quick they have external drives, if you want more space on the Xbox360, you gave to drive the cost of your Xbox360 to $580 bucks.
I knew it would be in the 150-200 range but that was months ago when 120Gb drives were around 120-150 bucks alone for laptop drives. But now you can find them for $80 bucks on newegg. Factor in the price reduction that MS gets for bulk buying and they are buying them for less then $80 each.
With the MS markup, it should be at most $150 but they should have priced it at $130 bucks. But if they are going to keep the 20GB model at 100 bucks then thats the reason why they are pricing the 120Gb at 180 bucks. Because no person in their right mind would buy a $100 20Gb drive when you can get 120Gb for $130 Bucks.

Actually I'm a Xbox 360 owner.
The PS3 has only just come out in the UK and I dont have the cash for it even if I wanted it. Just wanted to highlight that the article is wrong. I never said the PS3 was winning, I never said the Xbox 360 was rubbish. All I said is it was not 'storming' Japan and its not doing that well in that market. Plus the way the article was worded it sounded like the 'Elite' was out in Japan and it is not.
Don't jump to conclusions.

You make no arguments but call me a fanboy, im pointing out facts that MS is screwing existing Xbox360 owners because they dont want to chance the retail cost of the 20GB drive.
Everyone expected the 120GB drive to cost not much more then the 20GB model and that the 20Gb would drop in price. They were all wrong, MS decided not to drop the price but to jack up the price of the 120GB model instead.

what the ***** are you talking about?
because you want them the drive to cost 50 bucks less?
sony is the one screwing people.
Sony doesn't give us a choice if we want a Hi-def player or not...they just throw it down our throats.
you dont NEED a Harddrive
you don't NEED to download a ton of movies of marketplace.
but if you WANT it...then pay the price vietone.
Either buy the damn hd...or go download game videos off the Playstation Store.

Second, sell your drive for $40-$50 and then you are spenidng $110-$130 (maybe if you sell it for $60), which is like tne to thirty dollars more than the original price.

A CAT 6 super flat 50ft cable that can be hidden anywhere can be bought from Ebuyer UK for around £3, why on earth would you use unreliable wireless for online gaming anymore?
