Xbox 360 Elite HDMI supports 1.2 standard |
Ó
Forums have been buzzing regarding the prospect of what HDMI profile the Xbox 360 Elite will support, the standard 1.2 or the higher-end 1.3 version. AVS special member Amirm answered the query quite authoritatively and this is what he had to say:
Xbox 360 Elite supports HDMI 1.2 profile. For audio, you can select DD, DTS (at 1.5 Mbps), and WMA-Pro (Microsoft high fidelity multi-channel codec supported in some AVRs such as Pioneer). Since it is not based on 1.3, it will not support output of DD+ or TrueHD (even if it did, mixing would have been turned off).
Also reported was that come Spring, there will be two very important updates which will directly affect Xbox 360 users. First, HD DVDs will be updated so that they can support a higher level of audio fidelity and second, all Xbox 360 units, elite or not, will get a software update that gives additional support for different video levels and VGA.

The model that supports HDMI 1.3 will come out in three months and it will be called the XBOX 360 Elite Plus and will cost $600 and will come in silver. Additionally it will have built-in WiFi, come with 2 wireless controllers, and media card readers.
Like the PS3???Microsoft offers a lot of versions vs the PS3!!!!!
1.3, 1.2, whatever. Petty differences.
"Also reported was that come Spring, there will be two very important updates which will directly affect Xbox 360 users."
Didn't Spring already start on March 20 when we changed our clocks?? O.o
lol $600 u might as well buy a ps3
comes with basically everythink the 360 does but with free online and free blu ray drive and its quieter, last longer, more reliable, dont overheat ect ect
ps3+ value for money
I'm sure we are going to have people flaming MS for this.
The fact is there probably aren't going to be any/many PS3 games that support DD+ or TrueHD. They aren't even any Blu-Ray releases that support DD+ or TrueHD audio. The funny thing is that TrueHD audio is actually mandatory on HD-DVD titles, so I guess those people with the HD-DVD that have a receiver that can decode DD+ and TrueHD have something to complain about. The rest of you have nothing to complain about. The amount of money you would need to spend for that extra dash of quality on HD-DVD titles would cost you thousands of dollars. You might as well buy a standalone HD-DVD player if you have that kinda of money. How will this affect gamers? It wont... so don't get your knickers in a knot about something that will have no affect on games.
Blu-Ray titles aren't using DD+ or TrueHD audio, so what's the point?
Why would I want less titles, delays, few online games, less free content (xbl has thousands of game videos, hundreds of title demos of almost every 360 game released, hundreds of arcade demos)? There are many reasons most people are happier with a 360 then a PS3.
does anyone believe this guy please let us wait on official conformation from microsoft before we believe some guy in a forum.
this guy was obviously joking and poking fun at how M$ is f--king people over with this Elite BS.
Pathetic isnt it how almost all the first post are from the PS3 PANIC BRIGADE, if you have no interest in the 360 why do you come here and post negative ***** ? the only reason it can be is because you see this as some threat to the console you chose to buy, you really are sad...
SAD PS3 first posters on 360 news eh, anyway looks like a great system but I still think they should leave the wireless out and let you choose as I and most people I know have 360s all use cat 6 superflat cable as wireless has dropouts and is a waste of money and pointless in a console.
i think the console is gd but reliability it sucks
i know some one who is on there 4th 360 now
this elite thing is just bull crap
they r just copying sony. its not sonys fault microsoft screwed up
the 360 is like windows
it crashes, frezes, needs constant updates, need extras ect
i think i small some bu-ll crap
Snide little comments and dumb remarks (here and in your previous post) doesn't do you any favours. :|
No-one is copying anyone, the XBox 360 Elite is a natural progression of the console. If you don't think that Sony will release a PS3 with a 120GB HDD (or larger) and perhaps other additions in future, such as a hardware scaler (something the 360 has but the PS3 lacks), then you're very naive.
Both consoles are designed to evolve.
"the 360 is like windows it crashes, frezes, needs constant updates, need extras ect"
Some of the early launch 360s are less reliable (for many it's a problem with the GDDR3 memory), but for MOST gamers, their 360s have been and will continue to work perfectly. As for constant updates, check how many firmware updates there's been for the PS3 since it's launch in November, and compare that to the 360 which has been out for almost 1 year and 5 months. Hmmm. And how many firmware updates has there been for the PSP?
Like I said earlier, BOTH these consoles are designed to evolve, and updates are part of that evolution.
I guess I can consider myself a lucky one because I have not had one problem with my launch console. I even bought a second one for my brother and also no problems so to me the 360 is reliable. I can hear Sony now,PS3 supports 1.3 360 1.2
another reason while sony= better value. Sony when you can start getting better games Like anything that can match the 360 right now which I doubt you will for atleast a year then maybe I will consider buying you because I buy a console to play great games and right now the 360 has the most great games and more to come this year YOU SONY have a couple of games coming out but O yea they are also on the 360 so I'll get them for that.
Updates I too believe are part of the evolution of a console, but I think they are best done through firmware updates instead of asking people to buy a whole new console. True, you are in no way required to buy the latest and greatest, but that just means that future releases will still be required to run under the parameters of the cheapest of your offerings and unable to take full advantage of the evolution you are aiming for.
I dont get it. I have BOTH systems and I was under the impression that a lot of people who ARE GAMERS buy more than one system. I dont understand why there is soo much "MY SYSTEM IS BETTER THAN YOURS". Which leads me to believe that a lot of these posters aren't HARDCORE GAMERS. Because all Hardcore gamers know that there will be games for both systems that they want so they get both. Because of this I would imagine that alot of people own all systems. From these posts I get the idea that its if you buy one and you are not allowed to get the other. Wierd...

"Updates I too believe are part of the evolution of a console, but I think they are best done through firmware updates..."
And the 360 gets it's updates throught Live. Remember the 1080p update late last year?
"... instead of asking people to buy a whole new console".
??? No-one who has a 360 needs to buy the Elite version. The HDD will be available for those who want to upgrade their HDDs to 120GB, the only thing you'll be missing is HDMI (although rumours suggest an adapter may be available for that too).
Elite doesn't make current 360s obsolete, and there is NOTHING in XBox Elite which makes it different from a developers point of view. HDMI is just a digital video/audio out port, so games are not coded specially for it, and games are not coded depending on the size of the HDD (that's only relevent to gamers and the data they want to store).
Therefore XBox Elite makes absolutely NO difference from a developers point of view, so your arguement about coding to the lowest common denominator just doesn't apply here. :|
im on my 4th 360 and my friends 360 just started cracking discs.
Check out this site!
They're giving away Xbox 360's!

I got 2 consoles and it only cost me $20, working on my 3rd now!
We all believe you.
Anyway... does mummy and daddy know you're on the computer right now? I bet it's way past your bedtime.
spring lasts longer than one day
I buy more than one system if they're available and under $400. That's my limit on one system because with games and accessories over its lifetime i've easily got $2000 invested. A PS3 is not worth a $2000 investment to me because it doesn't do anything I already can with other devices.
I collect classic systems because cartridge systems last forever.
I see no reason to get an elite XBOX 360 unless they use the new 65nm chips. Then it may be worth an upgrade.
who ever posted that is full of $hi^!!! Another thing 1.3 and 1,2 is a big difference, its the speed and software protection! Man you people believe your own lies!!!
pathetic stupid fanboys, you're the reason people like me (who can afford it) buy all 3 systems instead of bashing the competitors.
It's childish the way you behave.
At least one person got my point that Xboxers are getting screwed by Microsoft and don't even know it.
I'm also laughing at the guy who doesn't use wireless because it drops out, blah, blah, blah... I haven't had any problem with my wireless connection for gaming. Dude, get a name brand wireless router that works!
i've got both consoles so i check both the ps3 and xbox360 forums... and i'd like to say that there are more xbox fans thrashing the ps3 on sony's forums compared to sony fans on xbox forums...
especially that Mr. CommonSense guy... who seems to have nothing better to do in life but to go to all ps3 forums and talk sh*t... he's an embarassment to xbox supporters... no class at all...
there will be no wi fi in the elite. they never said they would put it in. stop spamming rumors
somebody plz slap this guy.why in the hell would they come out with a new sku just so you can upgrade the hard drive.Ooops wait you can already do that!!!!This to me is bull i mean dont' get me wrong it's look great in black but to spend an extra 179 dollars its not worth it.the 360 is is not designed to evolve simply because it does die after four months that's why microsoft isn't charging a refurbish fee if your system dies within a year and a half of it's purchase. The article for that is right here on Qj.Copying my friend, yes. They are even thinking about adding a blu-ray periphial just in case hd-dvd flops. Now what about the people and already purchased a Hd-dvd addon for their 360?Have you ever wondered why the 360 version looks darker compared to the ps3 counterpart?Simply because it's to hide the low texture resoulution in games.360 is a great gaming machine but that's all i could ever be without hacking, is a gaming machine.Ps3 is a gaming machine also, but switch to other OS and the possibilites are limitless.

You sound like you talk bigger crap on the 360 forum, oh and I have both consoles and check both the ps3 and xbox360 forums... and i'd like to say that there are more PS3 fans thrashing the 360 on MS forums compared to MS fans on PS3 forums...
This is suppose to be fun, isn't it?
"somebody plz slap this guy."
After they shoot you in the head first (just joking ;)).
"why in the hell would they come out with a new sku just so you can upgrade the hard drive.Ooops wait you can already do that!!!!"
Who said it was anything of the sort? The Elite version is the SAME console with a bigger HDD and an HDMI port. That's it! So are you really saying you believe the HDD in the PS3 will remain at 20GB and 60GB throughout this gen? If not, then you SHOULD understand what XBox Elite is about.
"the 360 is is not designed to evolve simply because it does die after four months"
No it doesn't, that's fanboy talk. Try acting bigger than that (go on, you know you can if you try). Early 360s had issues, but most have no problems at all.
"They are even thinking about adding a blu-ray periphial just in case hd-dvd flops."
From the day MS announced the HD-DVD drive for the 360 they said they may offer Blu-ray in future, depending on the success of the formats, since it's not their battle.
For example, here's a report from January LAST year.
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid+14007
Afterall, MS provide the VC-1 codex (one of the best HD codex available) for BOTH HD-DVD AND Blu-ray, so from a software perspective, it's a win-win situation for MS.
"Have you ever wondered why the 360 version looks darker compared to the ps3 counterpart?Simply because it's to hide the low texture resoulution in games."
Sorry, but that's rubbish. You can easily see the textures in the 360 games by adjusting the TV contrast/brightness setting, hence NOTHING is being hidden since the textures are the same.
I've have had NVidia cards for years, and 3Dfx beforte it, and on the PC, both 3Dfx and NVidia graphics cards tended to be a little more washed out than those from ATI. This is all we are seeing with the PS3 and 360.
Also, the port can make a difference, and on the 360, the VGA port ALSO tends to make the games look washed out in comparison. I would guess that a multi-platform game seen running on a PS3 via HDMI and 360 via VGA would actually look very similar (i.e. both washed out).
Maybe someone would to do such a comparison in future.
"Ps3 is a gaming machine also, but switch to other OS and the possibilites are limitless"
Agreed, both are great gaming machines, but your PS3 bias is evident in your post. Not that it's bad to have a bias, but you shouldn't allow it to cause you to overlook the truth (such as the hiding low textures claim).
Change the plus character to equals to get that link to work (this is a problem with links on QJ).
Lol.. 99% of the time speaks facts?? Yui you are right up there in ass hole land. He has never spoken a word of truth, and will continue that until the bitter end, obviously.
"a source at Microsoft has posted specific details of the Elite's HDMI capabilities. Apparently the Elite will only support the 1.2 HDMI standard, and not the 1.3 spec which would have enabled TrueHD or Dolby Digital+. As such, you'll have to stick with regular DD, DTS, and WMA-Pro for your sound output. It also only supports dual channel PCM output, not full 5.1 channel"
From Engadget. This is fuc king hilarious... Not only do you have to pay as much as a ps3 would cost, but you get screwed out of a LOT of important features.... I guess microsoft is really making you CHOOSE... Between their crap and a real console, like the PS3 :)
and at least he doesn't bash the ps3, unlike you who bashes the 360.
I bet you don't even have a compatible receiver, they cost about $1,500. There are very few people in this world that about these new lossless audio codecs and for good reason, it's a waste of money and will probably be replace by even more advanced DRM infested codecs a few years down the track. There's 180 games on my system and only 30 on yours, how do you like those features?

There are very few people in this world that care about these new lossless audio codecs and for good reason, it's a waste of money and will probably be replace by even more advanced DRM infested codecs a few years down the track. Besides it only affects HD-DVD addons as lossless audio isn't being used for gaming.
There's 180 games on my system and only 30 on yours, so why is the PS3 better?
"but you get screwed out of a LOT of important features.... "
Such as? How do you have YOUR PS3 setup for audio?
What are the IMPORTANT features that the 360 lacks. You know, the ones which will make a huge difference in games.
Sorry, but you're just a fanboy who is just as bad as Mister Common Sense. You two are no different.
I wouldn't be able to explain to a lameoid how QJ works on posts....
I don't mind that you pathetic xboxers are giving away money to MS for simple changes that should have been there in the first place.
Kinda list Vista Baisc, Vista Home, Vista Premium, etc.
Marketing to fool people who don't have much of a brain into thinking that MS products are cheaper but in reality they sock it to ya with these "upgrades"
Sorry, I know this is too much for a lameoid to comprehend so I'll stop typing IRT your post.
Before calling people lameoid, you should avoid acting like one!
Look at me....... I'm getting screwed by MS and yet I feel compelled to protect my CrapBox 360. Although it will not continuously work for more than 8 hours, limited to DVD-9 capacity for games (cause I'll NEVER need for than 9GB for a game, like in 1990, I'll never need more than a 50meg hard disk!), no built in WiFI ($88 extra, hmm $479 + $88 + $567! oh, let me add a HD player for $199, only $766 --- PS3 is just too expensive!), less advanced PPC architecture, and the list goes on...
Any way you look at it, just look at the price. For similar capabality (not graphics, computational power, because PS3 blows the 360 away), you are looking at:
Xbox 360 - $766 minimum
PS3 - $600
Let me see, I guess I'm smart so I'll pick the Xbox 360!
Not!
Xbox 360 Elite - $479
WiFI - $88
HD-DVD player - $199
TOTAL $766 --- but look at what you get!
MS reliablity
No Firmware updates in 1.5 years (unlike PS3 which continually updates it's firmware)
PS3 is just a waste of money. Xbox 360 is the real next gen with 3 3.2 ghz Power PC processors unlike PS3's 1 PPE + 7 SPU (what the hell is a SPU?!)
Ms are scared of sony! simple they know the 360 cant vut it so they release a console of same colour (again) with new features to supposedly match the PS3 but its all lies its not true hdmi and its near the same price as a ps3.. I think the elite just won sony and ninty a lot of brownie points
Time for bed kid. Off you go. Goodnight.
Are you kidding me?? You guys going to defend this till the bitter end?? Face it, they are ripping you off! You don't release a new product with an old standard...
Any receiver that supports dolby digital can handle dolby digital PLUS, and TRUEHD will work on any system with an HDMI input!! So shut the fu ck up you liar!!! Compatible receiver?? That would be ALMOST ALL OF THEM... Ooh, 180 games? Where are the good ones? lol..
And I have the PS3 running over HDMI into a denon receiver, and putting out 7.1 ... And it cost less than $2500 for the whole setup.. I actually like my home theater, and it was complete long before the PS3 came about. Guess why the PS3 is so great?!?!??! come on, make an attempt..
Oh because everything on it looks and sounds better than EVERY SINGLE OTHER SOURCE out there...
