Xbox 360 Dashboard update reported to cause RROD |

Xbox 360 owners may want to hold off on getting the latest Dashboard
Update. It seems the update - which was supposed to fix HDMI-related sound issues - are causing some boxes to RROD. Coincidence, maybe, but why take the risk until you know for sure?
The complaints came from the forums of Xbox.com itself, with over 30 posters claiming that their consoles died after the update. Some consoles died straight after applying the update, some died after playing a game with the update. Microsoft commented:
We are always taking steps to ensure our customers have the best experience on Xbox 360 and we have a detailed and comprehensive test and acceptance plan for our software updates to the console. If you are having any problems, please visit support.xbox.com so that we can assist you.
Fixing an HDMI-related sound issue doesn't seem all that worth it if your risk bricking your console, specially if your warranty's already expired. Might be best to wait till Microsoft releases more info on it.

Dumb f*cks
Everyone out of warranty should try this (so long as you still have the 3 year RROD warranty, if not you're SOL)

Just kidding, it's a joke lol I love my 360 +) Never had a RROD!

my sound being screwing up ever since the update.

Y.L.O.D might not be huge at the moment but it seems the list is getting bigger and bigger on the ps3 official forums, just goto google and type in ylod
So far neither of my systems has had any problems, but I figured it's only a matter of time.

I am more surprised that so many are in their 4th or more 360s. I'm only on my 2nd one so far.

hot houses, running them on carpet, letting the vents become blocked by dust, cramming it into a poorly ventilated shelf... all of which can severely shorten the life of any piece of electronics and people do it anyway.
he's just saying microsoft doesn't deserve all the blame for every 360 that breaks... sounds to me like you are just unlucky. how long has your latest 360 lasted? i've had just as many fail, but then i've owned a total of 6 systems, all but my halo3 edition have had to be replaced once.

its not because stupidity of people (some are) but for example i took excellent care of my 360 and it RRoD'd for the 2nd time, and i sent it in yesterday, thus going to be my 3rd 360
All this because MS wanted to save a few bucks.. and now they're paying for it

i'll be the first to admit that the 360 has an unusually high failure rate. like i said all but my halo3 edition have broken...
microsoft rushed the product and is now paying dearly for it.
sony is just as guilty of pushing out faulty hardware (first run psx and ps2 disc drives were horrid). this time around sony seems to of gotten the hardware right the first time...
i don't maintain allegiances to any console, in fact i'm a pc gamer at heart. however that market is being neglected atm, so i go where the games are.

There are A LOT more exclusives than MGS4 and KZ2. IMO Socom Confrontation doesn't look "appealing" when compared to other exclusives.

"I wouldn't go buy either system at the moment except I already bought them >.

do it to that sorry excuse of a console.. you know.. the one with the gamecube graphics, and the gameplay of a 7 year old, and controls that require too much effort for a video game

after all, this is a 360 thread.. also very few exclusives for the ps3 (although its been out less time than the 360) but still, at the moment the only reason I'd buy a PS3 is for MGS4, and possibly Killzone 2.. but as it turns out, most games come out for both consoles, so meh.. no doubt i like the playstation products.. its just i need more reasons to buy a PS3 aside from MGS4 and Killzone 2

"IMO you appear to be comparing the YLOD as an equal (or worse) to the RROD. It is as if tomorrow 90% of the PS3's will die."
Point out where I made it seem like 90% of the ps3's will die? Hell point out where i said the YLOD was even equal or worse then RROD.
Like i said before, both systems have problems. I still play both *shrugs*

i don't think it was the QC/A dept's fault... i'm almost positive MS knew it and an executive made the decision to go ahead anyway.
MS extending the warranty was the only way to restore any kind of consumer confidence. if they hadn't, i think the 360 would of been dead by now...
i kind of like refurbs, only way to get a reliable board with an easily hackable drive :)

lmao, kinda dumb parallel
You wouldnt buy a car that has a reputation for breaking down would you?
Its thinking like that, that'll cause the next one to be half arsed too.
The fact that they'll fix it for free, is'nt a good enough reason to say the rrod problem doesnt matter.

33% fail rate for 360
Below 2% fail rate for PS3
and the games available for ps3 were more appealing to me.
if Microsoft releases a truly reliable 360, i might pick one up

I agree with papajag, since the 360s range from 8-33% defect rate, I can see someone going thru 2, 3, maybe 4, but the people who (claim) to have gone thru 6 or 7, that's something on the user's end. They're not keeping it like they should, probably enclosing it in something or laying it on a carpet.
If you keep a $2000 PC in the same conditions it will also overheat and slowly die on you.

I complained about the QC of the 360 a while ago and got reamed for modding my two (now Defunct) 360's. I was going to replace them and now am glad i didn't because for all the "New improvements" to the latter generation of 360's they are still prone to a early and unexpected demise. NO CONSOLE IN THE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMING HAS FAILED LIKE THE XBOX360 ------> . A titan of manufacturing shouldn't have to extend a warranty period to three times the original to take care of the problems that THEY caused by inferior design (Motherboard, heatsinks, no HDMI, vent holes to small, can't set the device on the carpet, noise issues, firmware updates being bad and causing RROD!) Who would've thought that you can't lay a expensive console on it's side, on the feet that are there for that explicit reason! STUPID. Maybe on the next GEN. MICROSOFT will go back to the ugly (yet functional) XBOX ORIGINAL design! At least it didn't melt down from everything being crammed together! (If they even release a next gen console that is!)
My family and i play the original xbox (XBMC, Oddworld, Fusion Frenzy) and our Wii (World of Goo, Guitar Hero) all the time now. I've never been a hardcore gamer, i just must like spending over $1,000 on defective garbage.
BTW Kudos on VISTA guys, i love that!
