CAMERAIn his latest podcast, Xbox Live programming director Major Nelson announced that the Xbox Live Vision Camera will dock to American and European shores this autumn. The said accessory will enable gamers to personalize their gamertag's pictures, video chat over Xbox Live, and send photo/video messages.

GestureTek, the company behind XLV camera, earlier hinted something about the camera being put into use in Halo 3 gaming wherein once a player turns his/her head to a particular direction, the in-game camera will turn respectively, paving the way to innovative gameplay. It was also announced that the said device can be used to play Xbox Live Arcade games such as Uno and Texas Hold 'Em Poker - better start projecting your gameface, or in this case, your poker face.

Major Nelson also assured 360 users that all the necessary updates with their Xbox Live service has already been set to accomodate the camera's features. Xbox Live members are guaranteed to have a "plug and play" experience once they get their hands on the gadget. No word about the camera's price tag was however uttered.

Microsoft is apparently trying to match, if not surpass, the fame Sony's own motion-gesture camera has amassed. The EyeToy was first released three years ago (July 2003), and has around 5.3 million units sold so far. XLV Camera is boasting of up to VGA resolution (640x480) at 30 frames-per-second for video, significantly higher than that of Eyetoy's; that translating to better sales is yet to be seen.

The problem I see with the Halo3 'camera moves with your head' idea is that if you move your head 90 degrees to the right....you won't be able to see the screen.
