After reading the report about Sega's Phantasy Star having another installment titled Phantasy Star Universe for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 2, speculations about the game having a collaborative online play link-up between the three aforementioned platforms were spreading like a Gremlin thrown in a pool of water. Well apparently, at least according to the latest reports (or should I say "rumors"), Xbox 360 owners will once again be left out in the cold.

The assumption about the link-up first came out after word of PS2 and PC versions having a "connection" leaked. It was then presumed by not a few gamers (ok, most of them were hopeful 360 users) that MS' next-gen console would be thrown into the mix, thus paving the way for online interaction between Phantasy-natics worldwide regardless of their preferred platform. However, while it's all green for the link-up of PS2 and PC servers, Xbox 360 is set to enjoy the game independently via Xbox Live! This means there'll be a separate Phantasy Star Universe exclusive (I'm trying my best to look at the bright side) for Xbox 360 owners.

well its good i suppose, if the game went multiplat with connection then the xbox might lose some of it features like voice as it did with ff11.

so it can be an actual 360 game with voice and better speeds.

as long as it being on the live severs only, means no additional charge like the original Xbox version that's fine by me. I spent countless hours on the dreamcast version, so I can't wait.

Sega still hasent learned that no one wants to pay to play PSO online with people. Theres much better free games to play. Hopefully they pull there heads outa their asses and realize that they would make much much much more off this game making it free, and then giving content you can buy with MS points. Only time will tell.

Honestly, I liked PSO better as a singleplayer or two player split screen game. The entire online design and service were just not fun, and paying additional fees on top of my Xbox Live subscription is something I regret to this day.

I have mixed feelings about this. Unfortunatly for those of us who currently play PSO on the Xbox, Microsoft has stopped updating the servers and they are now in perpetual christmas. I sudder every time I hear the infernal tune "Jingle bells." I was hoping that the servers would be shared with other consoles for this exact reason, but it looks like bill's ugly monster will rule the PSU servers and eventually not update them when THEY loose interest (not the subscribers).. Crap. Excited for the game, though!

# im fine with itThorlord 2006-04-25 14:11
PSO was fine with 4 people.

PSU will be around the same, having more people on the servers doesnt mean they will be better.

i am thankful for this move, it will make the game free to play (ok not entirely free, my XBL Gold will cover it) and i can have voice chat easily along with no lag from guys who have Dialup on the PS2 or PC.

actually i probably wouldent buy it if it charged another fee.

doesn't bug me. It means better compatibility with the live service. More people will have headsets and be more familiar with the live experience. You'll get a lot of noobs on the PS2 version along with a bunch of elitist ******** from the PC side.

Phantasy Star isn't like normal mmorpgs anyway with smaller groups of players. Losing the PS2 and PC players won't make much of an impact unless your fried who'll be playing the game doesn't have a 360 and must get the PS2 or PC version.

Personally, It's very possible to have a multi-platform servers, as people have private Xbox/Gamecube/PC servers. I think voice chat for 360s would be easily done, but SEGA is lazy. But yeah, I'd rather play PSU with PC and PS2 owners than use voice chat.
