Sweet?
I think this integration with popular web sites (not to mention the PS3's web browser/both console's keyboard support) is fogging the separation between what a GAMING CONSOLE is and a PC is. They both do the same bloody thing. It's like the iPod/PSP. The iPod is a music player you can game on, and the PSP is a game machine you can listen to music on. I know, both have their specialties, but still....WTF?!?!?!?
I love the 360. it's my favorite console, but cant the PS3 do all that through its web browser? minus the netflix, though im not sure how that that works exactly. Now i could be wrong. Maybe I'm missing something o.O
game integration.
it's the difference between native support for custom soundtracks and just playing a cd/mp3 on your computer while you game...
well, the PS3 is able to go to Facebook, Twitter and Last.FM.
But facebook and Twitter has links/buttons on their site that the PS3s' browser can't read properly, so they don't work when pressing them.
Last.fm howevr worked just fine untill recently, when they updated the look of the player... previously you could do it all, from PS3, but with that update to the player, it just says "loading" for all eternity.
which just means that the browser for the PS3 sucks
Ok and here we go again you have to pay for gold to use a already free service. You pay for gold and guess what you also see ads in the dashboard, i'm sorry but if you see advertisment then you should get xbox live gold for FREE.
What ads? The ones on the dashboard that tell you new game is on arcade? Or a new demo is there? Or a sweepstakes is happening? Those are just reminders. And also I got Gold Live to play online and anything else I get while having it is just bonuses. I get to watch netflix and use facebook and now I don't even have to open my laptop.
So we have a free trial period for services which have been free everywhere else?
Thanks... I guess.
So essentially I have to pay to access a service that I can otherwise access for free from my by getting up and walking the 10 feet across to my PC desk.
That's just awesome.
Why are there commercials on cable and satellite television? I pay for those!
People have gotten complacent in something that used to be premium quality for a premium price.
yeah..
I wonder if we'll be able to ue last.Fm while playing a game.
First off, Microsoft is more rich then any TV service, so they could easily afford to make an AD FREE service. Secondly, the PS3 is not only FREE (no $50 a year) but it has NO ADS!
"Why are there commercials on cable and satellite television? I pay for those!"
No.
You pay a company to give you the ability to watch the channels.
This is so funny all the PS3 fan boys that come on here to bash Microsoft. But the thing is all of us that have gold got it to play games online not for all this other stuff. Like I said before it is nice having the extras. You would have to be really dumb to get gold just to use the free services.
@ the Facebox and the Twitterbox in the front of the article.
That really is it. Remember when we use to pay for a live membership on the original xbox? It was pretty much just to play a game online. It's pretty much the same thing these days. The difference is that we have all these extra little bits on top of just multiplayer gaming. If people think they're paying just for facebook and twitter apps, they just haven't really examined the issue. We're paying for full access to the xbox live community. The facebook and twitter apps are just new neat little additions.
that will hurt PS3's sales for sure
lolllllllllllll lllllllllllllll llllllllll
Both have their specialties, but the combination of features that aren't their specialties can be the deciding factor. Not all people can afford an ipod and a strictly gaming console. That's why i got a PSP. Yeah, I'd rather have a regular Ipod AND a game system that devoted all its time and energy into it's gaming hardware, but i can't afford it. (I'm not saying I'm poor, the recession is just making my family a little bit tighter on money.)
My point is: I'm guessing it's the same draw for the xbox/almost PC. People might not be able to afford a brand new PC AND a this-gen console, so they stick with their old crappy PC and use it as little as possible by surfing on their Xbox 360.
Theres ad's on the dashboard!
How will i ever play my games again!??!?
I don't think these features are being used to "Combat" Sony
People aren't going to be like "OMG, I need a 360 now since I can use facebook, and twitter."
check your connection/firmware.
I am listening to last.fm on my ps3 right now...and I have never had a button on facebook not work.
The only thing that blows about PS3 browser is no flash 10 and of course the limited memory.
Still, having these things on your games console are just bonuses and if they are going to be there you shouldn't have to pay for them.
Seriously, why would you want to pay for these things when you can get them for free on your PC ? If you are sitting at your 360/ps3 using facebook and twitter....you should just go sit at your computer.
It is the thing I hate about the 360 dashboard....it is way too cluttered, and yes ads or reminders or whatever you want to call them, are not needed.
There should be an option to turn them off and have a more simplified dashboard, for gold members.
Obviously ads on tv or on your console do not stop you from experiencing what either has to offer. The thing is, anyone who has watched a season of any TV show, without commercials, know how much more of a streamlined and enjoyable experience not having ads and interruptions is....
Dude, Xbox isn't tv. Microsoft doesn't interrupt you While your playing a game to run a 15-30 second ad. I don't understand why ad's are JUST now annoying people. Ad's have been annoying for as long as they have been around.
But since these dashboard ad's do not hinder my gaming experience, I do not care.
