X360 Gets Ripped Off In Football

Leagues RosterQuite frankly now, we sometimes do not quite understand what EA is thinking. Microsoft recently gained exclusivity in making football titles for the next year. Just like that, this multinational corporation could be very well be holding the future of next-gen football games at the palm of its hands. EA's next moves are, to say the very least, staggering.

Here comes the bomb - EA just decided to remove 19 leagues for the 360 version of FIFA 07, yet included the full 25 for the Xbox and PS2 versions. Even Nintendo DS gets 22. Here comes another - X360 only has 21 stadiums whereas the Xbox and the PS2 get to have 47.

We can't help but wonder if EA plans to release these eventually as DLC (downloadable content). But that would make X360 owners pay for what current-gen versions have or will have for free. As of now, it's the closest, most logical thing we could think of. Better if you or them would come up with something better.

For now, this much we can say: it is the no wonder now why EA, in so many times, in the past has been the subject of criticisms from the gaming community.

Pre-Order: [FIFA 07]

» What?

When did Microsoft get football exclusivity? Do you mean EA?

» stupid

the stadiums dont bother me in the least, but removing 19 out of 25 leagues...? why? its not like im going to play as some australian league team or anything, but still it doesnt seem right

what 6 leagues are left then? premiership, bundesligue, serie A, la liga, mls, ligue 1......no dutch league, no irish league, no div. 2 leagues?? and no swiss teams to beat up on? will they still have international? for how much EA has boasted that this will be the most graphically and physically superior game they have ever made, how silly of them to remove what gave it the most depth of any soccer game out there. i had a friend from england who couldnt believe crystal palace (div. 1, not premiership) was on fifa 06, and on top of that they even had div.2 and div.3 teams. hopefully 2nd division teams only count as one league (english, german, etc) so we can still have that. what teams are you supposed to start with in manager mode? the best ones? wheres the fun in that?

oh, and #1, v for vendetta was a good movie, but come on....you gotta be a little more original than that

» Hmmm

I think the reason why EA has less leagues in the 360 version because they want to focus on specific players so they can accurately portray them on the 360. By having to many teams EA will have to focus on a lot of players, which will require a lot of time. Also for the stadiums, EA doesn't have time to focus on many stadiums. It could be that or they might be having disc capacity problems.

» Not buying it now

I was considering buying this as well as pro evo 6, because the engine is improved and all, and so i could play as nottingham forest. but now i wont bother. it's rediculous only having 6 leagues.

there could be reasons they dont have all the teams.

1. Not enough space!! only a dvd 9. and a lot of teams if it had all 500.

2. Not enough development time on the next gen version.

I know the engine was in development for 2 years, the design work on the clubs might not have had enough time spent on it tho.

3. Or just ea screwing with next gen AGAIN.

on a side note, i know madden 06 had a lack of features, so i didn't buy it. Not brought madden 07 yet. does that have the same features as the last gen versions. If so it might just be that ea makes it a full version after 1 year at next gen.

my 2 pence

» Space

Thats what the issue is, space.

by Milo - 2006-09-19 13:21
» Its not space...

Really, when (if) you get the game pop the 360 disc into your pc drive and see how much of the 8GB is used. I can guarentee you it will be under 4GB leaving almost half of the available 'space' clear.

The factor here is the timeframe. EA must release the game this year. Modelling thousands of players so they look realistic enough close to their real life counterpart in high def for all of the leauges would take longer than the timeframe we have. Its that simple.

EA won't release any of the other content via download as then thats one less reason for you to pick up Fifa 08.

» This is crap has started already.

Using the online services as gimmicks. This will probably be even worse on the PS3 and Wii

by Hmm - 2006-09-19 13:44
» Well..

...it actually could be the disc space. More high def textures require more space...

by eslim21 - 2006-09-19 14:49
» how can it be a space issue

The full games are coming to the PS 2 and xbox last time i checked they use dvd's too

Yes its 9.4GB. I get it, but its more than enough!!!! YOU STUPID MORONS. Since when a DVD9 became an insufficient storage format? Umm, maybe since Sony brainwashed you. Stop buying into the PS3 hype!!!! What do you expect Sony to say... "Well, we decided to implant BluRay into our system just because we felt like it... We are unique...." It's all marketing. You gotta do something to get people's attention even if its not true. If you guys just have some common sense, god bless you, then you wouldn't be so naive. And please don't call me an Xbox 360 fan boy. I'm just here with the facts and speaking of facts here is one: There are about 2 games that are over 6 GB. TWO!!!!! DAMMIT TWO!!!!! and both of them aren't for 360.... Go figure huh

by jayhawker09 - 2006-09-19 15:20
» space issue

#11, ps2 and xbox will not be using the same hi-def textures and frames the 360 will, therefore they use less space....durrrrr

however, space is NOT the issue. think about it. if you make one model of a white guy, one of a black guy, and one of a mexican guy, just color in their hair different every time and that would work fine for all the division 2 teams, and less popular leagues like the dutch league. you dont have to make an individual model for every single player....

the issue is they are spending so much time on rebuilding the game engine and reworking everything from scratch, and also making sure the popular players are detailed perfectly all by october, they dont have enough TIME to worry about the smaller clubs.

who knows, maybe if they finish up with the other stuff early, theyll be able to throw a couple other leagues in there...wouldnt take much time at all if you had enough resources

TIME is the issue, not space

by Dj Natas - 2006-09-19 16:28
» It is space

EA wants to give each player some resemblence to the real players, each player will have a set of unique attributes, and each team is going to play in its own arena, where as in the past it was generic stadiums.

» LOL

Space Vs. Time. the debate goes on. I'll just ask my homie that works for EA. its probably neither, and its definitely not space..

by vivid - 2006-09-19 18:56
» Hmmm

I think I've already been through this in the PS3 section. TEXTURES DO NOT TAKE UP MUCH SPACE AT ALL. Go open up any game right now on your PC, and tell me how much space the textures take up (a newer game so that the latest compression methods were used).

I'll do it for you: Oblivion

Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa 1.13 GB

And as I said in some PS3 topic, I'm using a mod that makes the textures 6000x6000 in resolution. They don't get much better than that. And this game has A LOT of textures, yet it's still about 1/5 of the games total size.

Now, I'd assume a football game could not possibly require more than a few hundred megabites for textures, so they are not the issue on a 8.9 gigabite disk.

No, this is just EA trying to screw people over. What else is new?

PS I'm not saying space CAN'T be the issue, just saying the textures aren't solely responsible.

And I agree with 12. If you have a Blu-Ray drive in your PC, I bet you could put a first-gen PS3 game in it and it'd read as less than 8.9 GB total size.

I think with the lack of titles for the x360, EA know that people will buy the game regardless of content. Whats the point in putting any effort in when you know ppl will buy the game anyway?

by Jimmo - 2006-09-19 21:15

Come on, who really plays as English League 2 teams anyway? They've shrunk the leagues so each one is incdividually face-mapped, so we'll never again have to play as grimsby town using players who all resemble ryan giggs. It's genius!

by 2kfan - 2006-09-19 21:37
» 2k does what ea don't

ea can't fit the stuff in but 2k can?

how about they drop a dozen or so songs...

» EA sucks bigtime!

Is all EA ever want these days is money!

They always port their games to other consoles/handhelds so they can benefit for themselves!

They'll even port NFS to GBA lol, i mean its pretty pathetic and i'm starting to hate EA.

Poor old 360, Wii and the PS3 all have online,

in other words they'll take advantage of us and squeeze every little last penny we had.

EA you Porting whore!
