X-Men: The Official Game Preview |
Ó
The upcoming X-Men title has you playing Wolverine, Iceman, and Nightcrawler in a game that bridges the gap between the previous film and the next one. The levels in the game dictate which character you will play and the environments and objects are especially made for that single character. Shacknews' preview goes in depth on all three characters and describes how each one plays. The developers made sure that each character was played differently, so there wouldn't be a lot of repetitive moves and such. The review gives us insight on the different attacks and methods of movement for each character. For instance, Iceman uses his powers to ski/fly around the levels while Nightcrawler uses his short range teleportation to go about his business. The preview also mentions that the game is expected to be about 8 hours long and spans 28 different levels, 3 of which are unlockable.
Here's a small clip from the preview:
X-Men: The Official Game is shipping on all the current home platforms: PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube, and PC. It follows your standard console heirarchy in terms of graphical fidelity: Xbox 360 looks better than Xbox, which looks better than GameCube, which looks better than PS2. I didn't get a chance to see the PC version of the game. All in all, the game has a nice look to it, with nicely modeled characters that look the part. The environments aren't going to blow you away, but some--such as the site of the huge lava beast boss--are appropriately impressive.
