Wondering how IPTV would look on Xbox 360?

IPTV

Bill Gates, together with Robbie Back, divulged yesterday the IPTV-enabled Xbox 360. In case you didn't get to hear the news, IPTV is a new feature that allows console owners to play games while watching and/or recording TV shows in the background, even while having voice or text chat. In simpler and shorter terms, IPTV is heaven here on earth - right on our couches.

Anyway, the upgraded version of our much beloved console will become available next holiday season. This, in turn, has further excited the community. Because you see, we have right here pictures of the updated interface and it looks very much ready to go already. But why put in on hold until late 2007? People can't help but speculate if IPTV will be bundled with the Zephyr.

So here are the images and try to familiarize yourselves with them even this early. This year's CES has been full of surprises. You don't have to worry though, we will update you as soon as something comes up.

Please let this be the portal to HD TV, if it could give us HD Output to our HD 'TV's , then they will sell it as gold :P

This is the killer app for Microsoft if they can make it work well. This would be my reason for getting rid of my cable TV all together.

# Only new 360?Guest 2007-01-08 02:15
This can only be for the Zephyr. There's no other way to do this for our current 360 without a 2nd input. Also would explain the bundled 120G HDD that supposedly is going to be included.

# just for Zephyr?Guest 2007-01-08 02:47
Is this thing just for zephyr or just an update for "regular" machines?

is right, I don't know if this is a good enough reason to dish out for another 360. I have HDTV cable TV and a DVR, unless we're wrong about needing the Zephyr for this, I wont be picking it up.

# this is why i don't game on pcGuest 2007-01-08 04:32
why make a console then release a new version 2 years later, wheres the incentive to buy it day one? this just sucks, hope they offer a discount to current 360 owners or a trade-in discount

# Whats the difference?Guest 2007-01-08 05:34
Wait a minute. Whats the difference between this and Media Center? I can watch TV on my X360 whenever I want with Media Center. And on top of that, when I record shows, it uses the PCs HDD, not the consoles. Which is better cuz I have 400gb on my PC.

# and againGuest 2007-01-08 06:28
no freakin doubt this is gonna be for the US only! and no doubt its gonna need Vista in there sum how to make sure you upgrade to that!! and whats the point, RuneEdge is bang on its already here with media centre, with better storage options!! The days of a pure breed gaming console are GONE! personlay, I want to see all of the power of the machine making my gaming experience as rich as poss, not recording TV which is frankly crap repetative *****e

i highly doubt you'll need to get a zephyr for this.. why would you? except the HDD, which you can buy anyways i'm sure wen it comes out

second this will be in many countures besides the US maybe like britain too!

hence why a british company is a partner already!!!

Good idea, for those who either dont have a computer (Who are you?) and those who don't have a very good computer or is just very basic. Another big point about this is that British Telecom are partners with MS now, therefor there new BT Vision line of products may be a sign of people in britian having a better service. Only downside of this is that lag will be a big issue. IPTV - Streaming. Zephr, who needs it?

THIS IS FOR ALL CURRENT 360'S!

It will be a software update, not a hardware update. Your 360 will be able to do this!

# I am going to reconsider purchasing a 360.Guest 2007-01-09 02:30
I was all set to buy a 360. If they are planning to release a new model already, I am going to look at the Wii or PS3. This is why I don't get into PC gaming. I don't want my equipment to be obsolete a year after I buy it.
