Wall Street Journal points to an Xbox 360 motion-sensing camera |
Ó
WSJ reports that the makers of the Xbox are developing a new camera that's supposed to capture even slight movements of the player, which will be translated into control for the would-be game. While it sounds a lot like the EyeToy, the Xbox 360 motion-sensing controller has been described to have much better performance and control.
Contributing to the possibility is that Microsoft has already acquired 3DV systems Ltd., a company that has already developed a 3D cam as well as related patents that could provide Microsoft with the necessary technology for the job. In an email, Zvika Klier, chief executive of 3DV Systems, said "unfortunately I can't comment on the rumors surrounding this deal. ...We will provide more information when we can."
The Xbox 360 motion-sensing camera could be announced as early as E3 in June, but the release will likely come next year, WSJ reports, citing unnamed sources which are close to the project. Microsoft is likely to sell the camera first in a bundle with the console, but they can't give an estimate on how the device would be priced.

"While it sounds a lot like the EyeToy"? If this story is true, it IS an eyetoy, only a more modern generation of the same technology. So in simple terms, its a Hi-Def webcam. That said, I am quite possibly one of the only people out there that genuinely enjoys his eyetoy, so I see potential in this.
Can Microsft at least FOR ONCE do something else than ripping off other ideas? Honestly, is there even one thing they developed themselves?
